Big Huge Games, developer of the award-winning real-time strategy games Rise of Nations and Rise of Legends, is expanding into a multi-team, multi-genre company. We're looking for an experienced, exceptionally knowledgeable, talented, and motivated Concept Artist to contribute to our upcoming Wii title (trust us, while it’s yet-to-be-publicly announced it’s gonna be an incredibly fun and quirky title that’ll be a concept artist’s dream).

Oh I know what that means in Nintendo third party language.

That's what I though. And, to add insult to injury, from the Big Huge website:

Desired Skills

- Strong color sense and sense of style
- A good understanding of the Nintendo aesthetic
- Ability to create concept art that communicates fundamental game design principles
- Motivated to work beyond direction and help shape the game itself
- Professional or published concept work is a plus

rise of the nation of the minigames?

it'd just be "Rise of Minigames", no?

But I'm very eager to see what they actually make here... if there's one CLEAR things wiimote should be doing, it's RTS and strategy games, so I hope it's utilized here.

oh, right. carry on. :D
Reading that back, it may have come out a bit weird - I was wholeheartedly agreeing.

In the most awkward manner imaginable :/

Big Huge Games is actually a pretty bold name for a company. I like their RTS games, though.

ah no, I was referring to the other thread where you forgot to mention the point n click adventures.

... nvm :p

Oh I see. However, I now have yet another opportunity to mention:

...more point & click adventures on Wii dammit! Board games would be great too, such as Catan. Except, don't release Catan on VC because I won't be able to resist buying it. Again.

BHG is made up of incredibly talented people and is headed up by the best video game designer currently in practice. I'm sure there Wii game will turn out better than the usual Wii effort, Nintendo's own work included.

My initial reaction though, of course-"what a waste".

Pretty much my sentiment. Whatever they can do on the Wii they can do 10X on the pc.

bold claims. Let's see if BHG can live up to the hype.

Did I walk into the cynics anonymous meeting by mistake?
You're in a Wii thread on GAF, so... uh... yeah?

They should really be working on Rise of Nations 2 instead of pissing their talent away like this. Then again, maybe they can make a good Wii game, but my gut feeling is much like Frags; ie. what a waste.

My feelings exactly. Of course, BHG COULD usher in an era of deep games that take full advantage of the Wiimote's potential for controlling complex stuff, but that doesn't seem likely.

*Sigh*
If only the actual devs had a good understanding of the Nintendo aesthetic...Not every game has to look like Wii Sports of have characters using similar artstyles as the Mii's!

isnt BGH a microsoft owned company? seems like microsoft doesnt mind having a bunch of their IPs on nintendo's consoles (halo on ds, rumored viva pinata ds, etc)

BHG had four games published by Microsoft and one on the way-Rise of Nations in 2003, its expansion in 2004, the tragically underrated Rise of Legends in 2006, and Catan on XBLA earlier this year. They are also doing the next Age of Empires 3 expansion, due out this October. They aren't owned by Microsoft, though-they've just worked with them quite a bit since Reynolds and company broke off from Firaxis.

They signed a deal with THQ earlier this year to make an RPG for next-gen (PC/PS3/360) consoles, if I remember. Given that the company has sorta been doing the "two games at a time thing" probably since Rise of Legends shipped, having a second project and team makes good sense.

One thing about BHG-they are the masters of making a good interface. So whatever they do in the Wii is pretty much guaranteed to at least use the controller in a meaningful, intelligent (well, as intelligent as waggle gets) way. I would expect that the game would be a strategy game of some sort.
