Ok really I love this movie, it's Carpenter's and Russel's best, but one thing has always bothered me.

Supposedly Lo Pan has spent two thousand years looking to marry a girl with green eyes so he could sacrifice her to remove his curse. They made a big deal about how rare it is to find a Chinese girl with green eyes. But at the end Lo Pan tries to marry both Gracie and Wang's girl because they both have green eyes. So if any old white broad with green eyes works, why the hell did it take thousands of years to find one.

Lo Pan: And when I find her, I will marry her...
Wang Chi: Never!
Lo Pan: Ching Dai will be appeased, my curse will be lifted!
Jack Burton: And you can go on to rule the universe from beyond the grave.
Lo Pan: Indeed!
Jack Burton: Or check into a psycho ward, whichever comes first, right?
Wang Chi: Jack, will you...?
Jack Burton: "Jack" what? I'm supposed to buy this shit? 2000 years, he can't find one broad to fit the bill? Come on, Dave, you must be doing something seriously wrong!
Lo Pan: There have been others, to be sure. There are always others. But you know, Mr. Burton, the difficulties between men and women. How seldom it works out? Yet we all keep trying, like fools.

[VADER]All too easy[/VADER].

I do love how the main character is just an ordinary guy, who falls into superhuman obstacles. It showed that nobody is invincible, and if you do what's right, you will succeed.

Haha, I forgot about those lines. Although I must have been subconsciously channeling Jack because I called them broads too. Still two thousand years... wtf dave?

we should create a thread and do a quick neogaf meet up before one of the afternoon showings maybe?

there's a bunch of gaffers in the area.

"Everybody relax. I'm here."

"What does that mean? Huh? 'China is here.' I don't even know what the hell that means."

"I took something. I can see things no one else can see. Why're you dressed like that? "

Such a quotable film. I need to watch this again.

Big Trouble in Little China is probably the most quotable movie of all-time. The way Carpenter and the cast handle the material with the perfect tone is just astounding. It's incredibly difficult to balance the cheese with so many genres and yet Big Trouble succeeds on every level. The movie has never and will never be duplicated. I've probably seen it over 200 times.

One of my favorite aspects of the movie is how the characters introduce themselves and provide an instant background ...

Margo - "I'll go anywhere or do anything to get my story. This is my big break".
Gracie - "Don't panic. It's only me, Gracie Law"

Everybody relax, I'm here.

I am laughing my ass off just remembering these quotes. The movie is a true gem.

I'll be on the lookout for the Blu-Ray version because it is time to watch it again.

Egg Shen: Can see things no one else can see. Do things no one else can do.
Jack Burton: Real things?
Egg Shen: As real as Lo Pan!
Jack Burton: Hey, what more can a guy ask for?
Egg Shen: Oh, the six-demon bag!
Jack Burton: Terrific, a six-demon bag. Sensational. What's in it, Egg?
Egg Shen: Wind, fire, all that kind of thing!

:lol

Jack Burton: What's in the flask, Egg? Magic potion?
Egg Shen: Yeah.
Jack Burton: Thought so, good. What do we do, drink it?
Egg Shen: Yeah!
Jack Burton: Good! Thought so.

"What's it do?"

"Huge buzz!"

Which Lo Pan? Little old basket case on wheels or the ten foot tall roadblock?

Best and most simple BTILC drinking game ever:

Only one rule, you drink whenever Jack expresses that he has no idea what's going on.

Think about it

Definitely a fantastic movie. One of my favorites as well.

Looking through this thread, I don't see a single negative post yet. That's amazing. :lol

- Feel pretty good. I'm not, uh, I'm not scared at all. I just feel kind of... feel kind of invincible.
- Me, too. I got a very positive attitude about this.
- Good, me too.
- Yeah!
[pause]
- Is it getting hot in here, or is it just me?

I hate it when you say that you don't like a movie and someone says that you just didn't get it. But that's the case with this movie, if you don't like it, you just don't get it.

I keep it on my PSP, which means 90% of the time I have the movie on hand ready to show you a clip!

Let me show you my Porkchop Express!

When people say the 80s were awesome, they're referring to movies like this.

“Here’s to the Army and Navy and the battles they have won; here’s to America’s colors, the colors that never run.”

I just finished watching it again. So awesome. I need to track down a copy of Escape from New York. I know I have a copy of it on VHS somewhere.

Can't really properly express how amazing this movie is.

It's just amazing.

Up there with Indiana Jones in terms of adventure flicks.
Totally agree.

They don't seem capable of making movies like this anymore. What was it about the 80s that made it so conducive to making the greatest adventure flicks of all time?

Hollywood's not clever nor fun anymore I guess?

Scott Pilgrim is the exception.

It's crazy to think just how many great films Carpenter made during the 80s; The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China and They Live as well as a couple others. The dudes way underrated in my opinion, same for Russell. Great director and great actor.

Jack is actually Wang's sidekick :D

OP you are like one of my favorite people starting now. When people ask me for my favorite movies this is almost always at the top.
Jack Burton could pull off several things that the average man cannot.
1. Mullet
2. Tight Jeans
3. Those same jeans tucked into boots
4. Wifebeater
5. A mastery of throwing knives
6. Last but not least Superb reflexes

God I miss the era of 80s action movies. I'm not being old here, they really just were the best.

Arnold, Stallone, Dolph, Norris, Segal, Willis the list goes on and on.

There's a reason they keep remaking movies from this era.

You know, Carpenter has more talent in his left pinky than most men. He even did this song with his band for the movie. I have the special edition double DVD from years back that went out of print. It has extras such as all trailers, and above music video. Here is a version.

The Blu-Ray has the trailers and music video, too.

The sheer amount of trolling in this movie is what makes it legendary.

I love the storms showing up and the one guy whips out the retractable egg beaters. :lol

Dude YES. absolutely one of my favorite movies of all time. I always loved the lightning dude because he was totally like Raiden from MK. Then I heard that Boon actually designed Raiden based off the lightning dude from Big Trouble.
