Biggest graphical leap in a series in a single generation?

Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 3?

Going from quite decent but some pretty bad torn frames

to something glorious!

and also looked amazing in Stereoscopic 3D too.

Dragon Quest 5 looks like an enhanced NES game. Dragon Quest 6 is one of the best looking SNES RPGs.

EDIT: Lunar: Silver Star -> Lunar: Eternal Blue on the Sega CD is also a pretty sizable improvement.

I can only assume you've not played it then? Else you wouldn't be making the comment. Uncharted 3 is miles above the first.

I know U3 is a lot better than U1, I have played the full campaing, but I don't like that comparison, there are a lot of better pictures for comparing.

In that part of the game, after the plane, the game is only showing a desert without any character, only Nathan.

PGR3:

More than kinda cheating.

1. Demon's Souls is on PS3.
2. Dark Souls: PtDE is on PC
3. You can only achieve resolutions that high by modifying the game.

So yeah. No.
And on PS3, Dark Souls isn't really a clear step up, the IQ takes a hit, as does the general performance. You get richer environmental and enemy detail though.

Halo 3 -> Halo 4

Uncharted 1 -> Uncharted 3

Super Mario Bros. -> Super Mario Bros. 3

Those are the biggest I can think of right now.

SMB to SMB3. Even more if you go Mario Bros. to SMB3. What do I win?

Nothing else comes to mind, Super Mario Bros 3 was gorgeous. Later gen NES titles in general just looked great. Could you imagine showing someone in 1986 that just bought Super Mario Bros Kirby's adventure and then telling them they were running on the same system it would of blown their mind

Super Mario Bros. to Super Mario Bros 3
Halo 3 to Halo 4
Mass Effect to Mass Effect 3
Uncharted to Uncharted 3
Resistance 1 to 2 to 3

What's interesting is that with the exception of Mario, all the latter games were subpar compared to their predecessors. Gameplay > graphics.

Tekken

Tekken 3

It's really hard to show how big of a leap it is. Tekken 3 would end up being one of the most technically impressive games on the PSone while the original is just a really bad looking game. The artwork even received a major upgrade.

There are other PS1 games that show an incredible jump between the first and last entry

Wipeout to Wip3out SE is huge. The latter ran in the PS1 high res screen mode, in wide-screen, with lighting effects and a huge draw distance.

Ridge Racer to Type 4. The original ran at a choppy frame rate with low poly models and a ton of polygon tearing. the latter was solid, with high poly counts everywhere, and the entire game (cars, track, scenery) was rendered with gouraud shading.

Disagreed. While PGR4 looks amazing especially in the rain, PGR3 looked awesome too.

Forza 2 to Forza 4 is a pretty huge leap

Disagree, just play PGR3 after playing PGR4.

The trees are semi 2-D (Can't remember the name of the effect), and PGR3 is sub-HD.

Yes of course in the rain it looks much better, but in normal conditions I don't think PGR3 is too far behind, especially from cockpit view. The most impressive game is still PGR2 imo, 11 years old and still looks great.

I'll agree with Man God, the best answer is the NES Mario games. The difference between the rough, pixilated look of Super Mario Bros. and the amazing designs of Super Mario Bros. 3 are like night and day.

I really have to disagree with people saying Halo 3 -> Halo 4 though. Halo 4 looks awful. They sacrificed a heck of a lot to get only a marginal increase in model/lighting quality, but that increase doesn't actually look any better than Halo 3. Halo 3 was crisp, clear, and colorful. You can't clearly identify enemies very well in Halo 4; everything is too murky dark. Reach and Halo 4 also suffer from way too much blatant pop-in during co-op gameplay for me to like them, either. When enemies are attacking you from outside the game's draw distance, something is definitely wrong with the game's graphical settings.

Yeah, there are a lot on the PSone since developers were just starting to get the handle on 3D. Tobal would probably be another

Oh wow. This might take the cake.

It's sorta misleading since the first is CoD 2 on the 360 and the second is a shot based on the current gen versions of the game. The actual last gen version of Ghosts looks really bad and blurry.
