Oh yeah, that was pretty crazy, but technically it's a next-gen shitstorm.Maybe not the biggest, but pretty crazy
The funny thing is Bayonetta 2 would not be possible without Nintendo, we should be thanking Nintendo.
Mass effect 3's ending shitstorm in bioware forum was epic
Oh yeah, that was pretty crazy, but technically it's a next-gen shitstorm.
Sony: PSN hacking and late relays of info to the people effected. $600 price point at launch.
Microsoft: RROD and widespread hardware failure, the majority of early adopters eventually got a bricked console.
Nintendo: Horribly barren software for the last two years of it's life, left out to die after huge success.
still stings.Haze.
I still remember the hype. I wish I could just erase all of it from my memory.
.Mass effect 3 ending
I wasn't on the forums at the time but the PSN shutdown must have been a shitstorm of enormous proportion. The fact that it lasted as long as it did, didn't help. The RROD is my own personal shitstorm. Three 360s. All dead.
Did not know that. Guess it's better than not getting to make the game at all, eh?
With the transition into the Eighth Generation of gaming currently dominated by the XBox One shitstorm, I thought it would be interesting to look back on the biggest shitstorm of the generation we are leaving behind.
Two questions, basically:
(1) What was the biggest shitstorm of the generation?
What story - more than any other - exploded into rage, negativity and chaos? You could consider it just on GAF - or consider a wider view such as negative stories that reached the mainstream press.
(2) What should have been the biggest shitstorm of the generation?
Is there a story that you thought was absolutely horrendous - but it never reached the infamy that it deserved? Something terrible done by someone or something in the games industry that should have caused tremendous uproar and backlash - but didn't to any significant degree?

I'll add my answers in a post later so not to clog up the OP. I'll also ask that the XBox One shitstorm be considered eighth generation and not seventh - so it doesn't dominate the answers.
I didn't even own or cared about the PS3 at the time of the PSN outage, wasn't on gaf but word travelled out fast and it was generally known that PSN was hacked. When that kind of mindset gets into ignorant consumers heads they don't care about giving the system a second chance. It gave fanboys excuses to avoid a PS3 and gave the 360 heavy leverage (and for good reason).
Hell, I still run into people who think that Live is worth paying for because it doesn't get hacked. Totally don't remember the incident with Xbox and Fifa. Not to the same level though. An outage for 23 days with poor PR was unacceptable.
.
Wii still being the best selling console
Some people have short memories. Nothing has come close to RROD. FF13 on 360 was funny, and PSN outage was awful, but you could still at least play other single player games. RROD was disastrous, I honestly don't know how anyone would trust a launch console from them again.
This shit right here was probably the biggest for me. People just don't do their research anymore.Maybe not the biggest, but pretty crazy and entertaining.
The funny thing is Bayonetta 2 would not be possible without Nintendo, we should be thanking Nintendo.
My PS1, PS2, and PS3 all had their lasers fail within 5 years of purchase. I bet the failure rate on first-generation PS1 lasers is at least as high as RROD. How is that for short memory?
Mass effect 3 ending
The PSN fuck-ups, from the stolen credit card information to the outages, get my vote.
