What if that guy legally owns that bike and has a GPS tracker embedded in it to get it back from thieves?
If he legally owned a similar bike and had a GPS tracker embedded, I'm sure he would have involved the police rather than circle the OPs house.

My grandad had his bike stolen last week, so he just stole somebody's else bike
Infinite cycle of stealing....
Should have answered the door and asked him where the fuck your saw was.
You weren't stealing you were taking it back
Next time he knocks, answer the door with a knife in your hand. Because you were about to make "dinner" =p
Can't steal what's yours. At least not in this scenario.
It's 100% obviously mine, since I put custom parts on it and it has all the telltale marks on it.How were you sure that it was your bike ?
It had a sticker or something ?

then cover it up, and place the bike so that he'll walk on the trap to get it back. Then just fill it up again afterwards while he's down there, problem solved.
Pretty sure that's illegal, regardless of the situation. This is america, only trouble free way to kill someone is with a gun.
I had my bike stolen out of my backyard a while ago (along with a circular saw...yeah). So when I'm driving about 2 miles from home today and I see a guy riding it. So I lost him the first time I tried following him, but after circling a little, I see it sitting there in the parking lot of an apartment building. I made a weird decision that I think I'm regretting now, but I parked, grabbed it and tossed it in my pickup. The whole time I thought, "what if that guy didn't steal it, just bought it from the thief?"
Well about an hour after going to random places then getting back home, a bringing the bike inside so it wasn't visible, the dude who was riding it was knocking on my door. Then after a few tries he started walking around my house. So obviously, since he couldn't have followed me when I took the bike and went around to random places before getting home, him knowing exactly where I lived obviously meant he was the thief. But what balls does the guy have to walk a couple miles to knock on my door? Called the cops, told them everything and even they said they didn't blame me for taking it. But now I'm wishing I had just left it, taking it back from a guy who knows where I live is a pretty dumb move in hindsight. Jesus.

The thing is, this is not a fancy bike. It's a Walmart fixie with better parts added on. I bought a new bike when it got stolen too, so I didn't necessarily need to go commando and retrieve the thing. Seeing as I just got harassed and had to call the police, I'm wondering if I should've just saw the bike sitting there, said "Oh wow, lookie there" and just left. Taking it back from a weird thief who knows where I live seems like the worse decision right now.

check and see if there are drugs hidden in the bike.
If I was in your shoes, I'd be scared for my life. Dude knows where you live. No telling what's going on in his mind. He could be mad as shit and is staking out to shoot you or something.
So the assumption everyone is making is that this is in fact the OP's bike and there couldn't possibly be an identical bike within a 2 mile radius?
