Bike got stolen, and I stole it back

Well now you know where he may live. Also don't keep it outside and I doubt there will be a problem unless he stalks you. Pretty ballsy for him to knock on your door and enter your property after he knew he stole it from you. Some people just are really that ballsy.

When I was a kid living in LA I had my bike stolen 3 times before I reached 12 years old. When we finally moved out of there, I had a bike that was just purchased a few months prior.

It got stolen immediately after we moved. Sonovabitch.

Buy a cheap bike, doesn't have to work, just needs to look legit, then leave it outside your house covered in super glue, like all over and wait for him to come back for it. Then enjoy having a person glued to a bike.

Is he the type to use a gun/knife against you? If not, I would just knock his ass out for stealing the second he provokes you.

If you think you have no chance against him or he tries to jump you, I would have someone have your back. Actually, have someone keep checks on you regardless of the situation just to be safe.

My grandad had his bike stolen last week, so he just stole somebody's else bike

I was told it was common practice in Amsterdam. I find that strange, to say the least.

Anyway, I find it surprising that the would-be thief would come back to ask for the bike. Maybe he didn't know it was stolen, someone noticed your pickup when you stole back your bike, and he could track it back to your home.

feed him pizza until he goes away,

maybe the thief was socially awkward and did this to make a new friend.

Time to show him you really don't fuck around. Next time he shows up, you step outside naked and ask him if he wants to wrestle for the bike. It'll really sell your point if you have some rubbing lotion with you---no need to get scraped up during a tussle. He won't come back.

sounds like the setup for the protagonist of a breaking bad-style nitty and gritty series, mattie.

For now, though, I mean, stay safe man. That thing about the guy knocking was so creepy... you got your stuff back so the balance is right with the world again and all, but seriously stay safe.

But how would he remember where you live? Why would he immediately assume you were the one to steal it back? Do you know this person? So weird.

just open the door and leave it ajar. if he has the balls to walk in, he has the balls to take a frying pan to the face.

Or snatch the door open and yell "the fuck you want?" he won't have anything to say, because how could he?

Not an issue if it was yours to begin with. Now the question is are you 100% sure its yours and I agree with the person who suggested to answer butt naked with lotion. I mean either he never comes back or you make a friend for life, its a win/win.

Should have answered the door and asked him where the fuck your saw was.

are people serious with posts like this? there's no reset button in real life

dude stole his bike and came back to HIS house when the bike went missing. do you really think that dude gives any fucks and is someone to be fucked with?

I would have answered the door and asked him what the fuck he's doing back on your property. He doesn't know you have it so no reason to beat you up yet.

word. You should make sure that you tell the police you will defend yourself if he comes on your property again. make sure you emphasize DEFEND.

then cover it up, and place the bike so that he'll walk on the trap to get it back. Then just fill it up again afterwards while he's down there, problem solved.

How were you sure that it was your bike ?

It had a sticker or something ?
It's 100% obviously mine, since I put custom parts on it and it has all the telltale marks on it.

The thing is, this is not a fancy bike. It's a Walmart fixie with better parts added on. I bought a new bike when it got stolen too, so I didn't necessarily need to go commando and retrieve the thing. Seeing as I just got harassed and had to call the police, I'm wondering if I should've just saw the bike sitting there, said "Oh wow, lookie there" and just left. Taking it back from a weird thief who knows where I live seems like the worse decision right now.

Pretty sure that's illegal, regardless of the situation. This is america, only trouble free way to kill someone is with a gun.

I had my bike stolen out of my backyard a while ago (along with a circular saw...yeah). So when I'm driving about 2 miles from home today and I see a guy riding it. So I lost him the first time I tried following him, but after circling a little, I see it sitting there in the parking lot of an apartment building. I made a weird decision that I think I'm regretting now, but I parked, grabbed it and tossed it in my pickup. The whole time I thought, "what if that guy didn't steal it, just bought it from the thief?"

Well about an hour after going to random places then getting back home, a bringing the bike inside so it wasn't visible, the dude who was riding it was knocking on my door. Then after a few tries he started walking around my house. So obviously, since he couldn't have followed me when I took the bike and went around to random places before getting home, him knowing exactly where I lived obviously meant he was the thief. But what balls does the guy have to walk a couple miles to knock on my door? Called the cops, told them everything and even they said they didn't blame me for taking it. But now I'm wishing I had just left it, taking it back from a guy who knows where I live is a pretty dumb move in hindsight. Jesus.

I would have lost my shit and beat the living fuck out of that guy. make him think twice before ever pulling that kind of shit again.

I'd invest in those mini cameras if I were you. If this fucker had the balls to walk around your house, you better believe he'd be willing to do it again, and possibly worse next time.

I would sell off the bike since you already got a new one. It's no asset to you since you probably don't want to be seen with it.

That is incredibly illegal, even to keep out trespassers.

So the assumption everyone is making is that this is in fact the OP's bike and there couldn't possibly be an identical bike within a 2 mile radius?

If I was in your shoes, I'd be scared for my life. Dude knows where you live. No telling what's going on in his mind. He could be mad as shit and is staking out to shoot you or something.

If I'm reading correctly, thief isn't sure it was the original owner who took it. I'd hide it for a while or maybe sell it.

I had a bike stolen once, wanted to get it back built my parents said that if I took it back the thief could tell the police I stole it even if had evidence I bought it. Sigh.. :/

The dude came back. That's evidence enough.
