Point taken. ^_^border said:"10 months late" would mean you were comparing to Xbox build. Cube versions of Splinter Cell have always been made around the PS2 engine, though. IIRC the first SC is considered to run better on PS2 than the GC, actually.
My point had little to do with graphics and everything to do with content. Other systems got exclusive levels, and that's what made their versions better. As long as graphical downgrades do not hamper gameplay, I would always cite the more content-complete version as the better one.
I have to disagree with you on one thing though... the more content-complete version is not always the better one. Games are like books and movies to me. I will often watch a movie or read a book based simply on the author or director. Same for games. So if the original creator has nothing to do with the added content, sometimes it can actually detract from what the original creator intented your experience to be. A prime example of this philosophy in action on my behalf:
I'm a big fan of MGS, but the moment Kojima isn't involved, I could care less about it. He has a vision for that series, that I believe only he can communicate. I feel similarly about this in regards to the Terminator movies. Only James Cameron's mythology is of interest, some anonymous producer trying to cash in on the franchise is of little interest.
That's not to say I apply this philosophy wholesale to movies, books and games. I can enjoy a beloved franchise when the spirit of the original creators' intention is left intact (even if it's not executed as well). Zelda WW would be an example of this.
I'm getting off track now, but I would agree that sometimes, more content = better version (ie: MGS Substance, MGS3 Subsistence - for reference, both improved versions were overseen by the original creator of the series and accompanying sequels).
[edit: I certainly don't expect everyone to give a rats ass about who the actual content creators are, and then base their game playing habits partly on who is actually making the game. Just thought I should clarify that. Some people don't care about directors, composers, editors, etc... I do. They are as important to me as the franchises they create. It's why I was willing to give Mikami's PNO 3 a chance, or Cameron's Ghost of the Abyss.]
