Biohazard 4 (Resident Evil) for PS2 pics from famitsu

How about making it easy and say the Resident Evil games? They've been ported to hell and back, there's bound to be superior versions in there somewhere. Res Evil 2 for N64 perhaps?

Well, there is a plus there in the fact that RE 2 64 did have true 3d controls, though on the downside all of the FMV and such was compressed to hell and back due to the cartridge.

Didn't really feel like it. Maybe I'll do it on PS2.

That said, the way the praisers act on this port is pretty fucking retarded, and it makes me NOT want to play the port. But I will, because I'm a true fan.

We're just trying to piss off some extreme GC fans who wish ill of this port.

SUPERIOR VERSION® all the way, baby!

Correction: anyone who seriously belittles the GC edition. :D

I can't wait for this to release. I'll be honest, all the topics regarding people playing the GC version back earlier in the year were making me jealous..at least it looks like a decent port and worth the wait.

Wondered where I'd seen that before...

Fits in with the other Besson references in RE4. :D

Really? I've only really seen like one Luc Besson film and that is the Fifth Element(I love it to bits though, so imaginative), what are they? You can tell, I pretty much am clearing the game. I guess you can spoiler tag them though.

That is all I wanted more out of RE4 was to be able to play through as Ada with different enemy layouts etc.

looks like I will be picking this up when it price drops. no need to get it right away though since i have the GC version already. Still wish they had done a louise mission or added him to mercenaries. lame city, population: capcom

You need to see LEON: The Professional. Arguably Besson's best film.
The Big Blue (uncut version) is a beautiful film, as well.

If they cram a lot of action into the other chapters, this could be a great addition. I'm talking slightly less action than Mercenaries. It'd kick ass.

Go see Leon, Big Blue, and Nikita (his original version is really SO much better than the hollywood remake called "Point of no Return")

man this is awesome. Thank god I waited for the ps2 version, knew it was gonna be worth it :D .

All this extra content I'm gonna get from waiting; it's going to be so worth it. I feel bad for anyone who has the version with less Extra content in it -- they simply won't be enjoying the game as much as me :lol

after seeing maskriders scans i cant understand how anyone would not like to play those extra chapters with ada. i mean, they look so fucking awesome. and some claim they love the game yet they dont want more of it.. it's hilarious how some fanboys are in denial.

ANYWAY GLAD I WILL PLAY THE COMPLETE VERSION! I WIN YOU LOSE!

Doesn't look as good as GC version

The extras are pointless and ruins the original experience

New weapons look out of place

New costumes are worthless

GC controller is superior

Widescreen sucks

GC version will be cheaper

Did I miss anything?

Cube fan by chance?

Those costumes are hilarious. But didn't some other mag/site say Ashley's new uniform was 'sexy' or something? Was that a joke or where they totally full of shit saying they played the PS2 version?

there's gotta be more costumes. and yes there was a guy from gamereactor.se that had played the beta version and he said ashley had a sexy outfit and leon had something an RE-fan would recognize (i think).

PS2 version seems absolutely faithful.
I can't wait for IGNs comparison videos of the lava room.

I think the Lava room in the PS2 version is missing the heat haze effect. What do you think oli? the pic is kinda small though

Heh, it's funny to see that the German mag is reprinting that Japanese CG mag's baseless and months old speculation (printed long before anyone even saw PS2 version) of halving polygon counts on Leon, etc.

ya they used the exact same numbers too! :lol

Btw the fire effect in the PS2 version looks better now.

resolution looks higher on the ps2 shot, doesn't it? i wonder if that's an artifact of different capture methods or the extra pixels afforded by TRUE ANAMORPHIC WIDESCREEN. the added detail makes him look somehow more...definitive, don't you think?

This will very easily be the best looking PS2 game ever, won't it? With MGS3: Snake Eater/Ico 1+2 a probable second place.
It's got a shot, that's for sure. MGS3 is a hurt a bit by it's lack of wide screen and progressive scan mode, both of which are in RE4, but I think God of War and Shadow of the Colossus will also give this game a run for it's money on PS2.

Maybe he was referring to the same extra costumes that were in the GC version...

Leon was in what I assume was his old police uniform (never played RE2), and Ashley was wearing tight pants and a rather cleavage-exposing top.

Ashley managing to look cute even peeking out of knight armor. And the Kennedy man will rock in that getup with attendant Chicago typewriter.

Intuition--for as far as that goes--tells me this won't entirely play up to the caliber of the GC version, regardless of extras. But if it does, then into the permanent collection it goes. I'll wait until I've directly sampled and gotten a good feel for both versions of the game before calling it though.

Crazy me.

I was going to say he looks superior, but definitive works too.

For me its because your just running through the same areas, encountering the same foes. The only benefit is the new cutscenes.

holy shit @ 1st pic

I remember that first pic looking somewhat better on the GC, the scans seemed to have been hiding some flaws aswell. Still a great port. It was smart of Capcom to put so much time into porting such a great title.

What would make it worth it for me is, new mercenary levels.

I hope when this game comes out, someone rips all the bonus parts so I can see how the story has been extended. More Wesker is always a good thing.

Yup. I kind of liked the story in RE4, myself. One thing that I'm a bit confused about, though, possibly due to my complete lack of knowledge of all things RE (only played the first one on the PC and REMake):
Is Wesker supposed to be the same guy from the first game? If so, didn't he get killed by the Tyrant at the end? I don't remember offhand if it happened in REMake or not, but I distinctly remember him being pretty much skewered when I played the original on the PC way back when.

Looks like that with Ada you can access locations you couldn't with Leon, fight some boss using the grapple hook, and in total her new mission (in PS2 version) takes approx 5h to complete. There's also new cutscenes with her that explain the story some more.

Duly noted.

As for the new RE4 pics. HOLY CRAP. Capcom really went beyond the call of duty on this port, looks like one of the best lookings games on PS2 easily. Dammit I need to find a friend with a widescreen t.v.!!

Plus, is that for real?! The new Ada side game is 5 hours long?!

Yeah, 5h says on Gamefront. I'll figure out some more translations in a sec, when I de-babblefish them ;)

In the meantime, watch the new videos - they look pretty damn awesome. Closer to GC version than anyone thought possible I think - and it's not a final build either.

I just watched the new videos, you were right! I had to do and double/triple take. RE4 is already like one of the best looking games already, I personally consider GC's best looking game but damn that was insane, I bought the game right after I played the demo, it was just so good! If people told me that was just the GC build I wouldn't have had seconds thoughts about it.

My biggest worry was framerate, but it's solid. Best damn port ever!

some VERY interesting stuff here. bad translation though.

about Separate Ways

- beside ' Assaignment Ada ' gives it the bonus mission ' separate Ways ' with Ada Wong, which takes about five hours. It de-energises itself after playing to the end.

- the employment distributes itself over several levels, which run parallel to the main play. Therein many events are explained, e.g. why the village inhabitants into the church to flee, if the church tower bell rings.

- the mission begins as with Leon (village, church). But then one comes into new areas, which Leon could not reach (among other things a levellevel level). Altogether there is 7 of steam turbine and gas turbine system.

- in the fight against Saddler there is a surprising idiom.

- new ones of areas are attainable only with ' Grappling Gun ', which uses Ada, when she flees before the village-upper.

- the action avowedly only background the main play and its characters, but no more.

- there is no dealer in this mission, so that one cannot rig Adas weapons. They are however anyway already preset on maximum achievement.

- Ada uses the same weapons as Leon.

about the graphic

- the number of opponents, who are simultaneous on the screen, does not differ from the Gamecube version.

- only very few Slowdowns.

- Leons hair moves as on the Gamecube.

- the characters are somewhat less detailed, which one recognizes however only from the proximity.

- the light effects and explosions are not good as on as the Gamecube.

the new weapon

- the PRL 412 burns the parasite from the body and hurts the enemy heavily, which particularly with the ' Regeneators ' is effective.

- each shot must be loaded only.

- the PRL 412 has a far dispersion, like the shotgun.

- one buys the PRL 412 with the dealer, approximately after 2/3 of the play.

- about as much place needs you as a shotgun in the inventory.

- Ada possesses also a new weapon, which is still secret. It is however very suitable for a woman and causes substantial Explsionen.

- a new costume of Leon is a gangster Outfit of the 30's.

and from the kawata interview.

- beginning Kawata did not believe that one could convert resident Evil 4 so original-faithfully on the PS2. The developers analyzed and could however the hardware very exactly more achievement from the PS2 rausholen than original assumed.

- one decided for a laser rifle as bonus weapon for Leon, because one wanted to produce completely new ' Look ' and another play feeling.

- one wanted to insert still another chain saw for Leon to alternative. But it would have fit not Leon and for it was not too brutal.

- Kawatas favourite monsters in the resident Evil series are the Zombies, which do not emerge however in resident Evil 4.

- best at the PS2-exklusiven bonus mission ' separate Ways ' pleases him that one background to history from the view of Ada experiences.

- like Ada in the second part to survive, is a secret could. Ada stands however in no relationship with Hunnigan.

*edit* Bah, already posted. I tried to make some things more clear, though...

They do have a point about lighting/explosions. For example, I have noticed that blasts from his gun never seem to light-up Leon's face like in the GC version, but maybe they'll eventually put those details in.

26.08.05 - Here are the new details for Resident Evil 4 from the American ' PlayStation magazine' (PSM) and the Famitsu. In addition one too already well-known information, all new one in the overview:

Note: The text contains some spoilers

- The relationship is deepened between Luis and Ada. Likewise the relationship of Ada and Leon is analyzed more closely.

- The mission begins the same way as with Leon (village, church). But then you get into new areas, which Leon could not reach (among others - an Industrial (Factory?) level). Altogether there are 7 stages.

Interview with Masachika Kawata (responsible for the PS2-conversion)

- In the beginning Kawata did not believe that one could convert resident Evil 4 so original-faithfully on the PS2. The developers analyzed and could however the hardware very exactly more achievement from the PS2 rausholen than original assumed.

- They decided for a laser rifle as bonus weapon for Leon, because one wanted to produce completely new ' Look ' and another play feeling.
