Black Tusk creating AAA game for Xbox One

Halo 4 may not be great but it is pretty good if you ask me. If MS can churn out lots of games of that quality I wouldn't complain.

Halo 4 is not the best in the series that's for sure but for a first try AND succeeding a top-tier developer like Bungie I think that the game was at least a very decent work...things can only improve at this point for the franchise and 343i IMO.

If game-play looks and has that much going on in the background ,with that much detail...that game is going to be incredible looking.

How has this thread been turned into a fanboy pissing contest?

It's also pretty sad how people can't make decent statements about MS without being called ridiculious.

No idea, was just thinking the same thing. It's always the same people too.

Anyway, I'm guessing Black Tusk's game will have Qunatum Break levels of visual fidelity and mocap. I think it'll try to appeal to the masses by being a cover shooter type of game with some interesting applications of Kinect, will likely be one of the first true implementations of Kinect in a game where core games may really enjoy it (which is what MS really needs at this point).

How many 'big budget' games does MS have in the pipeline?

They have 5 new big budget studios that we haven't seen anything from besides Black Tusk. So BT, the stuff we've already seen, and 4 other ips.

Can only imagine how gorgeous a new Perfect Dark for x1 would look graphically with Rare at the helm.

They need to give the Kinect stuff to some B team and let Rare lead their 1st party efforts again. Your most talented team and your having them make Kinect games. Come on now.

I disagree, Kinect needs quality developers, and Rare have only found their success on Xbox with Kinect games.

That said, why can't we have both?

I think Kinect Sports is entertaining but its a sad gulf from Viva, Kameo and Banjo. Rivals is gorgeous but while I jump around my room I doubt I am ever going to think:

"Thank goodness Rare stopped making all those awesome games for Kinect"

I know MS has a lot of other studios right now but Rare has proven they can deliver a great product. We can only speculate about the quality the rest will bring to the table. I say let one of these unproven teams try and make a Kinect game and if they accomplish that graduate them up to the bigger franchises instead of going the opposite way.

The problem is very few people were buying those great products, and we all know how studios that are not self-sustainable end up. Rare have found success with Kinect Sports, they've found their niche for the time being. I say let them continue making great Kinect (Sports) games, and when they grow back to the point where their future existence is assured, let a team or two branch out with something else. Actually, I believe that's already happening.

They tried that with Good Science and Big Park, it didn't quite work out.

this thread is getting bumped for odd reasons

Reasons: People discussing games on a gaming forum.. is odd?

Anyway so there are 4 big studios still working on titles. I'm guessing these are being saved for E3 next year and probably 2015 release schedule. I agree with Bruce, Rare should be spearheading the first party, find a way to integrate Kinect into core games.

Speaking of these two studios, do we have any clue with they're working on? I know in that 4 new IPs thread a while back someone found something about Big Park making an AAA game, but nothing has been said or found since.

That scene is straight out of Splinter Cell Double Agent. Makes me hope for a good stealth game.

I thought the same thing when I first saw it.
Definitely my favorite level from Double Agent.

CBOAT claims that Big Park's game was a MOBA that was cancelled and the majority of the team joined Black Tusk.

They were also poor at marketing Rare's titles pre-kinect. One would hope that after learning how to market a more casual peripheral that if Rare were to make a good old fashioned Banjo-Threeie with no kinect integration, MS would be better handled to market said efforts.

I don't know about Good Science, but I believe Big Park last worked on some sports apps, although I'm not sure. A funny thing, I was at their website just the other day (maybe even yesterday?) so I just went there again to refresh my memory, but the site is under construction now. News incoming?

Kameo and PDZ received plenty of attention as launch titles. Viva Pinata had a sizable marketing campaign, including giant real life pinatas and a children's show. Only with Banjo did they drop the ball.

That's disappointing, hopefully they still have enough people to remain a studio.

Also, I never watched the entire MS E3 conference and that video someone just posted a few posts up made me notice Spencer mentioned 5 new teams working on big new IPs, so I guess that is Black Tusk, Team Dakota, MS Victoria, and MS Osaka, with one unknown, probably the Redmond studio they haven't officially mentioned yet.

Team Dakota might count as one of the new studios. Project Spark is definitely an ambitious game.

Yup.

Kinect Sports Rivals was a great choice for Rare's first XBO-game, but I'd also like to see them return to more core oriented experiences.

Banjokazooie running on Rare's new engine would look really, really good.

Call me crazy, but I want a new Kinect Adventures for XBO. Some of the minigames were actually pretty fun after I got used to the bad latency.

Looking at how large that city seems to be...

anyone think this is an open world game? Possibly?

Would be mind-blowing, but... no. Don't even have that kind of expectation.

It's like saying Uncharted will allow you to travel the globe like the JRPGs of old just because the game takes place throughout various exotic locations world-wide.

True, but even looking at some of the screenshots of UC, I can tell that it is a linear game. The way this world looks seems a lot more like an open world game. If you compare it to Shadow Fall, look how, even though the city looks gorgeous, if you look closely you can see where they cut corners -- where there's a lack of detail. This trailer seems to have the kind of detail as you would have in an open world game.

At least a sandbox shooter. Please?

Believe.

You're making leaps of logic on the assumption of the game's world based off an in-engine render of a scene that wasn't even gameplay.

Based on what we saw, it could very well be FPS, TPS, a Hitman-ish game, a Mission Impossible-ish game. Alpha Protocol-ish game or even a Splinter Cell-ish game.

The trailer literally tells us almost nothing except that we can expect it to be graphically top-in-class, and that it's in the veins of a spy thriller action. ( with semi-futuristic weapons )

Doesn't sound very likely if they're planning to make a game with lots of "eyecandy"(Uncharted/Gears-ish).

I'd happily settle for a Perfect Dark esque game. Linear, but with optional objectives, different ways to solve a problem and a tiny bit of exploration.

Besides, Halo is supposed to be Microsoft's sandbox shooter. Hopefully 343 won't disappoint with Halo 5.

That sounds .... weird?
At least now I am expecting more than a cookie-cutter stealth game.

What weird about it? Sounds to me like they're intent on making on a proper big new franchise, putting a lot of resources behind it.

Does make me wonder if it will be a bit like Deus Ex: HR (in terms of stealth/open world)

The MS Research part, I wonder how involved they are and what influence exactly they have. Almost sounds thread worthy to me?

Sounds like they're probably finding ways to integrate Kinect-sensory into the game.

Probably stuff like sound, heartbeat, etc. Might be cool in a stealth game.

Im not much of a thread starter personally but you can use my post to do so if you like.

I would assume MS research is tech related? Its on UE4 isn't it? Perhaps customising that to their needs to assist the gameplay?

MS research does concept work, they do some amazing stuff, half of which never become actual products. Illumiroom is one of theirs.

Yeah, I know, just a thought.

I hope they don't as well. I'm scared that 343 might start falling into the same thing as other developers and start making Halo more of a linear experience the way they want you to experience. Halo 4 did feel like Halo, but it started getting a little to linear for comfort at times.

Listening to Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger as I watch this is just like...

Holy shit .. heartbeat tracking in a stealth game? D:

Hm, this puts me in mind also of the part in Cryisis 2 where
they put you in the "cradle"
. Imagine that, but actually scanning you. NPCs could even comment on stuff that's happening.

Nice MS, start getting these games interactive on multiple levels.
