im just really perplexed by my inability to find black women attractive.

it really fucked me over in my black-majority elementary/middle school, people thought i was gay/racist; and it led to the black side of my family pretty much disowning me because i always brought latinas ("white") to family gatherings during my high school years

So you're from a family of mixed cultures? If so that may have something to do with it. It's late over here and I really don't want to get into it, but I will say that I notice many kids who grow up in families of mixed cultures sometimes completely reject one culture in favor of another; due to some negative experience or good ol' fashion insecurity.

I'll be completely honest.
I find many black women objectively attractive, but VERY few have interested me beyond that. That said, I'm even into white women with tans.
I like em' milky.

Its possible that for you, black people represent something very familiar while non-blacks are something exotic and different. Much like how we have some white girls who freak whenever they see a black guy.

I would say I was pretty similar to you when I was younger until I moved to a very white city. For me I'm no longer more attracted to non-blacks than I am to blacks. You say you want to understand, but some of your posts in this thread are just coming off as mocking/hurtful.
yeah, the exotic thing could definitely have some truth to it; when i went to a majority hispanic high school for the first time i was going crazy over relatively average girls (and honestly still do)

i can definitely see how my posts can be viewed ass offensive so thats my bad man, i'll try to watch myself from here on out :)

Bleaching creams exist to aid hyperpigmentaion and uneven skin-tones. Using it to change your entire complextion to a whole 3 shades lighter is weird.
you're right, there is a genuine use for it. But when looking at how it's been sold...even as far back as the 50s...it's clear there is much more to the intent.

"You'll be so much more beautiful when you're light!"

Remember kids:

"Nadionla brightens your opportunities for romance just as swiftly and surely as it brightens and lightens your skin."

[...]

"...the wonderous ingredient that seems to lift to the surface a lighter, brighter clearer and lovelier complexion...to be seen and admired by all."

Nothing is coincidence. Let it slow burn.

Ad taken most ironically from a copy of the November 1963 issue of Ebony Magazine. The issue about the March on Washington.

It's legitimate to call out racism like this (because that's what it is).

I don't buy the argument that black women want to look white (or are rejecting their 'natural beauty') by straightening their hair, but I will say that black women are put in an unfair position in society due to racism where they are more "acceptable" if they straighten their hair (especially true if you are familiar with corporate American culture). The issue is complicated because a lot of black women's own preferences happen to align with racist preferences. That is to say that the black women who do prefer not to straighten their hair face a lot of opposition socially and that is unfair and racist.

I don't understand how a study can find a race attractive, we are people and we value looks mostly on an individual basis.

^ you're the life of the fucking party if you're light!

culture. it's super-effective! :-(

But really, I totally agree. Sometimes, conformity is necessary and that's all it is. But for others, it's a fear of not appearing attractive...and that's all it is. They're petrified of just appearing naturally because they're afraid the culture will reject them on looks alone.

Other interesting discussions of race:

http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/your-race-affects-whether-people-write-you-back/

I'm not suggesting for a moment that the conclusions of this study are not culturally based.

What I find interesting, instead, is that women exhibit considerably more racist/bigoted tendencies on dating sites than men do. Of course people will rationalize it with "Oh of course, men will sleep with anything they can get their hands on," but that strikes me as post-facto analysis. I could just as easily have seen it go the other way, and then people would claim, "well of course men are more racist, macho tendencies are typically at the core of cultural racism."

In addition, white women prefer to date within the same race more than any other group.

No you are not stupid. I go to a predominately white college private college and I feel the same way in the reverse. It's crazy because the opposite is actually true. A lot of the white girls there don't see color; they just see someone that they want to hookup with. I 100% get where you're coming from with the intimidation factor. I see it like this: if a lot of white girls are down with the black (barring any stupid reasons like trying to piss off their parents, etc), then a lot of black girls are down with the whites.

It's so fucking awkward where I live. I live right on the Mason-Dixon line. This is a completely stupid rant, but where I live we, not I, celebrate the confederacy. Where I live, Belle Boyd, is practically a saint despite being a confederate spy. The courthouse near where I live was where they hung John Brown. It's like they revel in it. This is completley not my thoughts, but it's like they celebrate this is where we hung that "n-lover" John Brown. I have to go to all these confederate love fests because of my job, and I always think fuck you. I do love that the Harpers Ferry town council still has a picture of Frederidk Douglas behind their council desk. Then there's the fact that the modern civil rights movement began with Niagra. What I'm trying to say is that when you live in a community associated with the brutal subjugation of black people, it's difficult to think a person of that race would accept you.

I honestly wish some of these race stats would factor in regionalism more. I think being where I am, and having the exposure I've had to minorities, I'm much more willing to date outside my race, even prefer it to some extent. Many of my friends are the same way. I try to ask myself what makes us so different than the women who prefer to date within the confines of their race, and I think it has to do with growing up in the Bay Area.

They associate with a lot of white people too.

Glad I'm not the only one who felt this way. Maybe most of the people on OKCupid are second/third generation asians and are generally not so conservative when it comes to dating people of other races?

I feel like I can safely talk about this given I'm in a town that's a majority asian. Asians can date and marry white people without much recourse from their parents. Any other races though, especially blacks or even other asians, give their parents more pause.

Yup. And it kinda makes me think if someone says, "I'm not attracted to black women" that there is just a tint of racism there. Even if its involuntary.

I just find it hard to believe that someone can say something so broad. Because that generally means that their color of skin simply is distasteful to you. If we take food for example, you can say, "I don't like vegetables". You even can understand why some people do. But saying that you cannot stomach vegetables means (whether involuntary or not) that food is distasteful to you. Same goes with black women and skin color.

Black people in general have the most diverse (scientifically proven) traits and looks than any other group. So really the only difference between the millions of black women and other women is simply the skin color. Nothing else. You can't say its a nose, or eyes, or hair, because as I said, black people are naturally more diverse which means there is always going to be someone with different eyes, or noses etc.

I mean, there isn't any black women, out of all the people you know, celebrities, musicians etc, that do something for you? I can't really call them a racists...but a part of me thinks it's pretty dang close.

With that said, every race does something for me. I can say that there is not one race, that I cannot find a ton of attractive women to pick from.

Yup. And it kinda makes me think if someone says, (All your bullshit above) that there is just a tint of insecurity there. Even if its involuntary.

Black women are ugly(scientifically proven), deal with it.

Yup. It's the "parents" generation. I doubt if the kids feel the same way about dating black people like their parents did. I really don't want to go into the specifics of why though, because it's a very ugly place.

Completely unsurprising. White is considered right, which goes right back to the whole idea of the white beauty standard. Even if I'm a dark skinned black guy who is a lawyer and makes tons of money, has a good upbringing, and keeps himself in good shape, the parents of the asian girl I'm dating won't be accepting.

When it comes to interracial relationships, people like to think they're liberal about it...until they find that one of their children has brought home a person of a different race.

Or a different country. I know some of my friend's parents would have issues because of China-Korea-Japan relations. And a good portion of them seem to look down on Filipinos.

OT: I find the hatred between East Asians to be very entertaining. Just saying!

A friend of mine told me once that he couldn't masturbate to black women porn. And he wanted to. He liked every race. But the black woman for some reason didn't do it for him. I told him not worry about it; but he got really down.

And the thing is, when we used to go clubbing he would chase after a pretty black girl just like any other race. In fact preferred to dance with a black girl.

When I asked him about it. He said, yeah of course, but he couldn't explain it. He tried a messy solution like he sees one race more slutty than the other; then rejected that himself; and said something about being conditioned perhaps to white porn all the time, and the Asian college girl sex symbol/hentai, and that there was no black equivalent. I can't quite remember.

My self. I've never really thought about it. But if it is that way for some people, I'm not sure what one can do about it, or whether they should. I don't like japanese 'orgasm/crying' myself; even though I find oriental women very attractive, which is easily solved through Asian Americans, Brits etc.

I will say that porn is separate to reality. Hormones and chemicals kick in when any girl is flirting with you in real life, or looks great on the dance floor. Eye contact, smiles, conversation. These are all things that can't happen with porn. So porn is hardly an indicator of actual racial preference.

Being in China I have seen some ugly ass white dudes with hot ass chicks. This didn't shock me or anything as a lot of white people here are rich and that makes sense but I have heard Chinese girls call some white guys handsome in clubs when these guys are ugly as sin. White to a lot of Chinese is beautiful even if they are ugly as fuck, the white is what matters.

Asian-Americans, maybe. In Korea, this is how parental preference for a daughter's suitor in general breaks down:

Korean <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< White <<<< Other East Asain <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Black <<< South Asian (Thai, Vietnamese, etc.)

Because it factors in to the future of their family. If the relationship lasts then the racial and cultural makeup of their family will change.

your arrows seem to be going the wrong way.

Do you mean: Korean>white>other east asian>black>south Asian?

pretty surprising that they dislike south asians that much.

Hmm... For me personally, I've learned to appreciating black (but mostly continental African) women. It would have never happened by consuming the medias here in NA.

These are the things you may, perhaps, on a blue moon, be able to post if: 1) You've been here for a very long time and 2) You have a long, well known history of sarcasm.

You must meet both of those criteria simultaneously to post something like this -- and even then, as I said, your odds of survival are slim. You meet neither criteria and I'm not in the mood.
