Blade Arcus announced, Shining series fighting game.

Sega, you stupid fucking twats.

Take this.

Translate the scenarios.

Up the res, make it look at least a little nicer.

Put it on PSN, XBL, whatever.

Ok, thx.

Please stop wasting your fucking time with these garbage games. Fuck is this? Shining Force fighting game? Sega, you will sell approximately 8 copies of this trash. Why are you wasting everybody's time?

Actually, you know what? Sell the Shining Force IP. Get rid of it. It is being wasted.

I absolutely agree with this post. As someone who loves the original parts of the series (1, 2, CD, etc) it kills me that I'll never get to play the whole of 3, even if I do have a Saturn. The decent into generic anime nonsense kills me.

Have literally never seen this in arcades.

Have literally never seen this in arcades.

I remember one of the more anime-friendly arcades -- Leisureland Akiba, maybe? -- doing a day one stream for the game when it came out. Within an hour the players had switched the game on the cabinet being streamed to something else.

Played this a bit in Akihabara last year and really wasn't feeling it. May just be because I didn't have a character I enjoyed. The stiff animations didn't really bother me but I wasn't having much fun.

Me either...wow...

I wouldn't mind if this got a console port if the fighting is any good (and ofcourse more SRPGs and traditional JRPGs from the series).

I also thought Shining Resonance with his art was pretty cool and that was the last/most recent console game.

Also, I like Tony Taka's art, though people are welcome not to ofcourse. Nothing stopping Sega from doing a SRPG Shining Force with his art except Sega so I think it's silly to blame him for that, they could easily do it.

well, it's comparable to what they did to Fire Emblem. the downfall of SF started years ago. FE is just catching up now ;)

can't beat classic SF artwork.

Amen brother, on all points. Always hurts seeing what SF (and now FE) has become, Japan slowly killing everything I loved from there.

Bit of an unfair comparison IMO. I don't like that FE is going down the horrid otaku pandering route, but at its core, it's still Fire Emblem. We're still getting solid SRPGs, whereas Shining Force has been completely bastardized and bears absolutely no resemblance to what it once was.

I'm of the firm belief that we won't get a traditional Shining Force game until Camelot gets back on the wagon, and they're trapped in the Mario Sports vortex, so I'm not sure when that would be, if ever.

On another note, both Shining Hearts and Shining Ark were solid games. I just wish something (bordering on ANYTHING) would have gotten localized. The series gets a lot of hate from afar, and that's probably the Tony Taka effect, but going into the PSP era, there are some really good games in there.

I think the problem with feather was more just that the game was not anything special. I had it and beat it, but hardly remember anything about it lol. Do recall liking the characters and art though. Battle system wasnt too bad. Though other folks didnt like it due to it feeling like a chore after a while is what some comments said.

Its kinda like what people said about that Capcom X Namco / Project X Zone games in terms to the design with the combat lol

I wish we'd get the AM2 dungeon action RPG ported to PC as a F2P. Or consoles, anything really, I always wanted to try Shining Force Cross.

And this is why the series is hardly going back to the SRPG route.

I actually used to play that. The weird thing about it was how fast it vanished from arcades.

Segas Quest for D lasted a lot longer and had multiple versions though.

Though SFC was nice looking.

Yeah I heard it wasn't doing too hot but SEGA somehow managed to have quite a few versions of the game released. Makes me wonder if the merchandise sales kept that title afloat, I know a lot of additional revenue for the Shining series is thanks to the figures SEGA sells.

It's not comparable at all. Fire Emblem still is a strategy game, exist and is localized. Shining Force and the DRPG doesn't exist anymore and the Shining series, in addition to being what it is now, isn't even localized anyway.

It wasnt anything like it. It's a smaller scale tactical RPG that only uses 5 characters in battle with radial movement in very plain flat empty arenas. It's about as close to shining force as Neptunia is lol

I made mention of it that way because it was closer to a turn-based psuedo-strategy than most of the newer entries. As you can even see in this thread, Shining is associated with Action now-a-days, despite the fact that most of the new stuff has played with a bunch of hybrid genres. That's probably the fault of those PS2 era Shining Games, which I think were the last ones we got over here.

They did in fact make an original style strategy RPG post-Camelot.

But it was Shining Wind X, a sequel to one of the action RPGs, released only on old Japanese cell phones.

Played this at an arcade last week. It was pretty bland. Wanted to stop playing it pretty quickly. Absolutely nothing about it stood out. The game play was decent, if a little stiff, and the rest was pretty forgettable.

s2, s3 & the PD have been translated so you can buy, rip, patch & play via ssf or yabause on pc.

EXA was pretty awesome, its a damned shame they never made another one as it actually worked well as a diablo-like ARPG.

I don't know why Blade Arcus continues - I've never understood there to be a strong following for the game by any amount, and nothing about it looks really impressive IMO. It didn't even get ported to any consoles. Am I missing something?

It pains me, because Shining Force I and II are two of my favourite games of all time, and I still frequently replay them. They just fill a hole for me that so few games even bother to attempt.

What they need to do is a reboot of Shining Force 1 and 2 on freaking PS4/PC worldwide release. Use a decent Indie company to do it.

It'll never happen (since there are apparently legal issues with the rights to the Camelot titles, and the people in charge of the IP like to pretend the classic games don't exist), but I'd love a "Shining Classics Collection". Shining in the Darkness, SF1, 2, CD, 3 (all scenarios in English), Wisdom, and Holy Ark. So much gaming greatness in one place.
