Blizzard is changing McCree's name in Overwatch

I am sure this will solve everything

I had a feeling they would, otherwise it becomes a focal point of the counter-community and there's no doubt the suits would rather the world forget about this episode of Blizzard's history.

That said, the name is excellent. Unfortunate.

Considering 99,999999% of players don't know McCree is named after an employee, this is kinda retarded.

Bu then again, literally the first sentence in that post shows they already went full retard.

He's already known as McRightClick in the game thanks to his secondary cheesy high damage (insta-kill) ability, so why not change it to that?
(Seriously, the balancing is really bad in this game.)

Its an okay gesture I guess, but I can't help but feel that Blizzard has bigger problems on their plate right now than a character being named after an asshole.

Super lame. When overwatch inevitably dies, they are going to dismiss all the wrong things theyve done and complain about market change.

They've taken so many wrong decisions...

Ah right, i Googled McCree and get what this is about now. Still an incredibly stupid thing to do imo, but thats just the world we live in now.

Fast hands McCree i am guessing "lollipop_disappointed:
i am guessing he is named after one of the people that was fired for sexual assault.

That's my guess, never played the game.

Maybe its a legal reason, the person could always turn round and say oi, i want compensation, the game is profiting after a character named after me.

Could be a gazillion reasons i guess.

or just stupid woke shit. "lollipop_disappointed:

Woke morons with zero self awareness, fucking incredible.

People fell in love with the character and don't know or fucking care about your dirty laundry and tradition of naming after employees.

Buy hey all our other IPs are suffering lets bring some drama into Overwatch too.

They always make these dumb changes to show how woke they are and pander to the woke audience, meanwhile REAL changes are never made. Their entire culture at the company seem to be idiotic.

I'm not sure why some of y'all are ragging against this move. It's the right move. The guy's been kicked out, had a history of problematic behavior, and Blizzard/OW foolishly named a fictional character exactly after his real life "counterpart" (they have a history of doing this like in WoW). It's awkward because OW has been around for years, so the transition to a new name is gonna be odd, but it has to be done. OW2 is coming eventually and it's time to change it.

What's extremely cringe is putting your name on a main character who's a studly cowboy that wears a belt with BAMF on it.

Frankly at least this is a little more relevant than them getting rid of the /spit emote in WoW. I still can't believe they did that.

No it's not the 'right move'.

It's a batshit insane conflation of a digital character with a human adult male, manifest in flesh.

The inability to separate product with employees is a symbol of a retarded culture (and I mean that in the medical sense) that treats trivial things seriously and serious things trivially.

It's a waste of time and resources for something 99.9 percent of gamers know nothing about.

Why is it?, its just more cowering down to the Twitter mob.
99% of players wont even undertsand the reference, and most of the other 1% that do wont even care.

Edit. Someone else said basically the same thing at the same time. Great minds.
