Bloodstained village footage

Seriously .
They have been answering fans , providing feedback , explain their technical choices in term of rendering , level design and such . What damage control ? There is no damage , just a simple discussion between a fanbase and the creators.

Other devs should do the same. but they probably won't since it's so easy to spin goodwill and active discussion into something negative.
No kidding! GAF spent the better part of 8 pages dissecting, criticizing, and nitpicking to hell and back a 40 second footage of a still in development new area. The developer comes out and says "we heard you; here's what we're changing because of said feedback" and now they're in "damage control".

Give them a break. The game is more than a year from launch!

People do really craves for another MN9 controversy huh? Yeah it was fun to bashed that mediocre game with big promises and the conman behind it, but Bloodstained doesn't have the necessary requirement to trigger such event.

EDIT: I opened the video, and take a look at the recommended bar beside it and opened this. Holy fuck, how the hell people can call this game ugly?

I have to admit that the village footage was the first I've seen of the game and I came away a bit worried. Pretty cool of the devs to address the concerns. I'm eager to see the game closer to launch.

Haha, this thread is a pretty good example of why developers don't like showing off games in progress.

Although the environments we shared are work-in-progress, they are roughly 80% complete. This is the kind of look and feel the final product will have. We would not share a half-baked progress for backers to give feedback, so to brush off the concerns with, “It’s still an unfinished piece” is unnecessary.

There are many other clips of the game in development showing other environments (castle entrance, ship) over at their official Youtube channel. They already released a playable demo last summer to universal positive reception and the game still has another year of development.

Dont worry. I know I'm not. They've been doing everything right so far.

I think this looks fine. It just looks a bit empty because there aren't any enemies or items in place yet.

Also, yeah, hope the Wii U version moves over to Switch. Pretty much all the other Kickstarter darlings have, so I fully expect this to make the move as well. Should be an easy port too since the Switch has modern Unreal Engine support now.

very cool.

the compositing/lighting look off though. like shes not in the world, and just overlaid on a BG plane. also i expect the animations and poses are still being worked on as some of them dont feel...right..i cant place my finger on it...

edit: got it! it's her landing pose/anticipation pose to jump, her legs get bowed in and her hips kinda turn to face the camera..looks off for those type of actions.

The drive-by posts about this game are crazy. If you backed or have been following the development of this game you should have known why they chose this art style, and how much they've improved things already in the process of development both due to fan feedback and otherwise.

The demo that came out feels fantastic, and miles ahead of where mn9 was at this point.

Word. I have no concerns at all. This game is going to rock and the doubters will be eating crow.

Yeah, I backed this game for a pretty big chunk and I think it's coming along great. I have pretty realistic expectations, though. To me, it looks like an updated version of my favorite Iga games. That's all I want.

We know the gameplay feels right. The issue I see here is the clash in style from character to environment. She's not working as a cell shaded model against the way they are doing the environment. One or the other needs to be tweaked. Also I hope they make her animations snappier. She's very floaty in animation.

Apologies if this has already been posted, but isn't getting this to look right as easy as only using keyframes and getting rid of all of the animation in between (similar to Guilty Gear)?

We have new information regarding this Village Footage update courtesy of Iga's community manager Mana over on the official Bloodstained fan forums. This is what she posted:

I'm happy to see they're taking feedback so seriously. And, like a fellow poster on the forums said, if the IGN screenshots from last year are any indication of a finished area we're in for a treat. This shots have finished lightning sources, reflections and candles which I'm sure will make a difference on the village once implemented (as well as the mentioned changes).

Also LOL at the Village featuring the sun. I swore it was a blood red moon. Happy to see they'll rectify it and make it look more like a sun.

This is the first time I'm seeing those screenshots. Holy shit, it looks awesome!

Miriam is the best. <3

To be honest, the way the character looks did seem best based on what they gave us to compare. Maybe should've had more examples of areas in the game, as well as in-game footage.

They've had entire tech presentations detailing what they did for Guilty Gear. It wasn't easy, it was amazing.

Looks like someone was inspired by the update to make a new music cover.

I can understand some criticism on the graphics, but they don't look bad to me. I'm glad the community manager responded on the feedback. Graphics aren't a big deal for me, so I won't talk about em much.

A village will be nice. Simon's Quest was the game I had as a kid, so there will be some nostalgia in play. I like the village in OoE too.

The village was hinted at in the concept art in an update, and it was confirmed in the Bloodstained Community Broadcast Christmas episode, so I was looking forward to knowing more about it. Great update. I can't wait for the next one.

The lighting is a bit off in the original footage, but it sounds like they understand whats p, and are tweaking it. Overall, I think the game looks quite on point.

Capcom, SNK, and the folks making this need to contract out the people who did Guilty Gear.

It's a lot more labor intensive to do an Xrd on a platformer then a 2d fighter. Xrd had to tweak quite a lot of animations and models to work with the forced perspective they have going on.
