Bloomberg: Microsoft Adopting AMD Chips for Next Xbox, no backwards compatibility

Anyone think they'll have Xbox BC? I'm kind of expecting ps1/ps2 BC on ps4.

Only if there's a competent X86 emulator.

Wait a minute.

The original Xbox was X86 so it should. There's still a compatibility effort involved but architecture between Xbox & Durango should not be an excuse.

There is no practical difference between XBLA games and retail games. If retail don't work, XBLA will not either, same as PS4.

You're right, of course. Unless it just means that the BD drive in the next Xbox can't read 360 discs. But that would be mental, and highly unlikely.

and game discs made for the current Xbox 360 won’t be compatible.

How do you know that?
The fact that they're reselling PS2 games on the PlayStation store and full software PS2 BC never came about. Sony would rather resell the game if you want to play on PS4. Obviously its a hunch, but a rather good one don't you think?

Cerny clarified that it just can't play music CDs. It seems like they're still deciding if it'll be able to support PS1 games.

Ah. It's still highly doubtful. Why would they have PS2 or PS1 BC? Its no longer a big selling point and they can make a shit ton selling the games online. The biggest thing I would hope to see at the very least is discounts for Ps2 games i bought on psn

They already sold them online. If they let vita owners use ps1 games bought before vita even released[on ps3] then what makes you think ps4 owners wont get the ps1 games they bought on ps3?

I never said i didn't think those would work.. I was talking about physical discs. I would hope those would transfer or at least get a massive discount

dev kits are PC's, bro.
They're at least a bit more similar to the final console than traditional PC's and have some of the specialized features implemented. It's not like they were misleading people by running it on Titan systems or something. I just have a mental distinction between running on a devkit, like KZ and Knack, and running on a random PC, like Watch_Dogs was at the conference.

I agree. I was just clarifying in case they happened to include it.

At least PS4 will have some form of BC planned. Completely unideal BC, but still they at least have something. Wonder what the next xbox will have...

if they don't have BC on the next x box...........the 360 is my last Microsoft system. i will be saying goodbye MS and hello Sony- i have over 80 xbla and 250 disk games.

If its true, there's no bc that really sucks.

Really thought the new Xbox would have been planned from the get go to include it. They want to say to all their community and hardcore paying for gold, that the collections they've built up on xbla and the online multiplayer disc based games people have been playing through live that those aren't going to be carried over? That its essentially investing in a new platform again? Even big titles on the 360 from Xbox were able to be played on the 360.

Maybe it's time for me to abandon console gaming and get into pc which can do bc with no major problems, but I'll wait to hear what MS has to say on the matter before believing all these rumours.

You don't think online will be mandatory in the future? I just assumed it would be the generation after next. I think its just happening quicker than people expected. A very forward thinking move, maybe too forward.
I don't think most would describe mandated periodic internet-based DRM checks as "forward thinking," considering other publishers like Ubisoft have tried and abandoned it, but I guess ymmv.

You think that's the only reason for always online? I'm sure it'll be part of it but its not the only reason. Considering where the xbox os started and finished they don't want to be caught without something if the next gen lasts seven years again.
