BMW M3 - E92

If you want a convertible, don't get a BMW. Convertible Beamers scream out "middle-aged blonde woman with self-esteem issues."

Either get a real BMW or get a tougher convertible.

Get the sedan...and skip the moonroof option too, adds more weight...be a driver, not a poseur =P

If you want to be a little more budget oriented and sleeper look you can also opt for a 335i along with a Dinan Stage 2 mod...a buddy of mine got it for his E90 sedan, near M3-like performance, crazy torque =)

Where the fuck is Marwan? He's owned like every single M variation released in the past few years. You should ask him.

Damn you OP, you lucky bastard :)

I'd personally choose the vert over the sedan, but I guess that depends completely on your usage. Personally, I prefer the coupe (with DKG :D ) over the other two, being from LA with a drop top is very nice. There are some days where I wish I had gotten a E46 M3 vert instead of the coupe.

The big question now is: what color combo? :D

Coupe looks better than both of them. If you want a convertible just get the 335i .... if you really want a m3 get the coupe

BMW's are meant to be hard-tops, ESPECIALLY M3s. I don't understand people who buy convertible M3s, I don't understand why BMW even produces them to be honest. This is all opinion, but I prefer sunroofs. Convertibles are too... I dunno, old lady-ish. Go buy a Mazda if you want a convertible :p

You know, the car enthusiast in me keeps saying I'm gonna be nick named "Top Down" if I become one of those people that buy an M3 Convertible.

I agree with those that say if I want a convertible, I should just get a 3 series. But alas, I want an M3, and I'm not going to settle for a gimped version as much as I love convertibles.

The sedan it is I think. Unless you guys can make some argument as to why the coupe is better. Cause I'm not seeing it.

im pretty close to ordering a 09 335i coupe.. just because apparently no one keeps manual transmissions on the lot here in socal. Can't quite justify spending the extra $10k for the M3 (or S5, which i would prefer)... lets see if my willpower holds out.

*edit: one thing about the M3 is that if i had one i'd definitely want the CF roof, so no drop top or moon roof for me.

They're nearly impossible to find. The Pacific BMW in Glendale doesn't even have them, and supposedly they have the biggest selection in So Cal.

Oh wait, I'm reffering to the 08. The 09's are not due for another 2-4 weeks depending on the dealership. You should totally be able to get an 09 when they come in. If you order it yourself, you should be able to get it in time for new years.

Also, and extra 10k for the M3 is totally worth it.

Yeah, I went by Pacific.. New Century.. Monrovia. They found me an 08 M3 DCT out of state with the options I wanted but I still prefer manual so I passed on it. I got the Audi dude to get to MSRP on the S5 (they were asking 10k over first...LOL), but the 70hp gap between that and the M for the same price is hard to swallow.

Also, and extra 10k for the M3 is totally worth it.
:lol must stay.. strong..

Mad: you know you can order a bmw right? I ordered my second one just last month. Just have to be patient.

As for pricing try Andy Lin at New Century, he was the only guy that kept it real with me the whole time and gave me the lowest price on a 135.....

coupe.

saloon doesn't hide enough of the E90's ugly to work as a supercar IMO. the E92 coupe is a gorgeous thing (Have a 330 msport at the moment). plenty of room in the back, plenty of truck space especially if the M3 still has the option of folding rear seats.

if you for some odd reason you dont want a coupe, then get the cab. You should still have decent trunk space when the roof is up.

but IMO coupe all the way

and the new SMG gearbox (whatever they call it these days)

Golem:
BMW knows what they're doing with that pricing scheme.

I tell you, I went from a 1.35i, to a 3.35i, to an M3 in the span of 2 weeks. I know the M3 is where I'm staying though. The M3 is what I've always wanted since I was 14. Since it suddenly became within reach, I'm totally jumping on it. I'll only be 24 once.

Just watch this:

this:

and google the episode of Top Gear where they pit it against a C63 AMG, and RS4.

You'll be done with.

I'm going with manual all the way.

True, very true... luckily I'll still have my stage 3 B5 S4 to entertain me when I want to be a hooligan, really just looking for daily driver with a warranty ;) The M3 is definitely a nice ride, if you want a convertible I say get it! Youre at the right location and age to get one.

Btw, one of the big reasons I'm going for the 09 is the new Idrive interface... seems much more improved than the current generation on 08's. You might want to take a look if those things matter to you:

Convertible anything is the ultimate sign of a man being a total douchebag. If you have any dignity you will get the sedan.

The M3 convertible is for people who can't afford a true roadster and an actual M3 at the same time. Or females.

I wish I lived in an environment where a convertible is an option. Fucking Canada, I just got almost a foot of snow overnight. In mother fucking October! This winter is going to suck...

To add salt to the wounds some dipshit stole my shovel. I better not catch him. With my luck I won't be able to find a shovel in town.

So no one else noticed that the thread title is wrong?

The E92 M3 is actually the coupe when the OP is specifically asking about the E90 M3 (sedan) and E93 M3 (cabrio) respectively. Not the biggest deal in the world but that has bothered me since I first noticed it.

Every 30 thousand dollar millionare aspires to (and can lease) a BMW 3 series, and keep in mind 90% of people don't even know what BMW's M line is anyways.

Are those really the people you want to be your peers? Cellphone kiosk workers and restaurant managers living above their means?

I recommend the Lotus Elise SC- the cheapest almost supercar money can buy that looks exotic as all hell. It's actually CHEAPER than the overweight M3. What does an M3 weigh these days- 3600 lbs? The Lotus is 2006 lbs. All newer BMW's are ugly, overweight and way overpriced.

The only problem is that it is made by a second world country, but hey, what can you do.

You live in LA, you need to show a little respect to this incredible city. Go fo rthe concertible.

But I'll personnaly go with this :

I'd only recommend that car as a second car. As a daily driver, it leaves a lot to be desired.

Personally, the Lotus is a bit too gaudy for my tastes and the handful of owners of such cars that I've met have the personality to match.

I was half-joking. Only half, though.

They actually look pretty subtle (or I guess I should say, the most subtle) in black. All of the black inserts on the car blend in and it doesn't look quite as wild.

Nothing more balling than a person with a $40k car, thinking they're special with an exotic car powered by a common Toyota engine. I won't even get into the people who daily drive them.

om nom nom

Please get the sedan for god sakes...... the convertible is so fucking ugly IMO.

BTW I love M3's, I could never afford one but a friend had one for a long time. What a great cruising around car.

anybody driven or seen a 135i convertible?

How did it look? last i saw it, it looked a little too girly

For one thing, they're fast as hell. Faster than an Evolution MR, quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds fast. The girly-car talk will stop once you step on the pedal. For another, they're basically a modern incarnation of the 2002 - fairly upright and short looking. I like that. And yes, I've seen plenty of them. I basically live in BMW Land.

joO gonna be paying significantly more in car insurance with the convertable bro.

Sedans are classified as family cars, you'll be paying a lot less.

Also, go with performance man.

I'm embarrassed that I didn't pick it up before. Then again, my love for the E92 blinded me. I'd love to pick up a DCT, though I would imagine by the time I could comfortably afford it the next-gen would be out.

You answered your question by making the thread. Every rational argument points to the sedan. But you obviously want the convertible, so get it.

M3 convertible is dumb. Sedan is dumb. Get the coupe!

My friend had an E46 M3 convertible with the AMG sequential transmission. He thought it was the shit but I hated it.

Living in LA though I can understand wanting a convertible. Tough choice man I wish I had your problems!

For the purpose of disclosure I drive a 2002 E46 325xi. I wanted an M3 but it came down to practicality. My driveway is horrible and I would of scraped the M3 everytime I pulled in. :lol Plus the insurance at the time would of been DOUBLE the 325xi. And it actually snows here :P

If I was in your shoes I would get the 135i as a nice daily driver and use the saving to buy the new Ducati 848 :P but thats just me... No convertible can match a bike in topanga canyon man!

M3 is $60-70K. Stop being bitter. It's not a good look.

OP put the baby seat back in your wife's minivan/SUV, put the groceries in the fridge and get this.

If it's sports you really want, then get a real sports car, not a four door family car with a sports car engine or something that's almost indistinguishable from a Honda Civic.

the 1 series convertible does indeed look girly. the 1.35 is a beast though. I'd take that over a Z4 any day of the week. As far as the track goes, the 1.35 actually out performs the 3.35i (go figure).

The 1 Series is essentially the new 2002, and I gotta say, they did a hell of a job with it.
