Yeah, Space Hulk is a tad bit pricey. Too rich for me, that's for sure. :´(
Whatever.
My CitOW box is already here! Yay! Thank you, german postal service.
What I do
not like so far:
1) The box has a ridiculously tiny compartement in the middle. No hope of ever keeping all your tokens, cards, dice, and figurines in there. What the hell. I solved this by inverting the cardboard inlay, so that I now have two big compartements and a small ridge inbetween, but that means the game board is only held in place loosely. They also don't include any re-usable bags, so your stuff is flying around loosely unless you have some ziploc bags or something. Not much thought must've gone into this.
2) My Tokens were seriously hard to break out of the "mold". They left rather strong connections to the surrounding cardboard, and now my Tokens all have quite big ridges. I'll live, and the tokens weren't damaged, but still... minor quibble, though.
3) The "hand"cards are seriously tiny. Like, 6x4 cm. Not good for big-pawed guys like me, I'd wager.
4) Some figurines have thin parts that bend easily. E.g.: The Cultists figures feature some sort of staff inbetween two robed figures, with a decorative thingamajing at the end, and about all of my figurines have that decorative ring hanging over them like some sort of broken halo. It's kind of a sorry sight. The plastic is very malleable, so it's not permanent, but OTOH I doubt they'll stay unbent when they sit in the box in between gameplay sessions. One sharp look, and they bend again.
5) Why are the character cards not made out of thick cardboard? These wishy-washy sheets are a bit of a letdown. I'm supposed to have them in front of me at all times, but I think they're a bit too feeble to withstand some serious gaming with heavy token shuffling. They look more like cheatsheets, which is a shame.
6) The dice are really cheap stuff. One of mine even has a small manufacturing fault (small nick at one side, and a white impurity on the other). I'm not impressed at all.
The things I do like:
1) The game board is friggen HUGE. It's more than 80 cm in one dimension! The dials are nice, and the board is folded in a way that keeps them on the outside so that they can't damage the lovely artwork. Niiiiice.
2) The manual is full colour and sports many nicely layouted pages. It seems to be very feature-complete and even sports a glossary with explanations and stuff. Wow.
3) Artwork is awesome. 'nuff said. Very atmospheric.
Keep in mind I haven't played the game yet. TBQH, I've just come down from the new game fumes induced happy dance.
Eating charred pizza and looking forward to tomorrow, maybe I'll get to play the game then. Now, back to dancing and squealing like a little girl. Wheeeeeeeee!
