A friend just picked up Dominion and Race for the Galaxy. We had a couple nights in a row playing these games. What fun! Boardgames have come a long way since I last played anything.

We really enjoyed Race for the galaxy. Unfortunately we're both married or/living with our SO and have little time to get together. We're going to try the genie server for RftG.

We're dying to try Arkham Horror as well but there's not much in the way of deals out there on price. To get the game and expansions will be a higher cost than any of the others :(

My friends and I are lately playing Formula D. Wow, it's so much fun. If you are into cars and races, and you like fast-paced uncomplicated boardgames, this is the game for you. Plus, it has a lot of expansion circuits, and you can make it deeper by creating your own pilot with its characteristics.

I strongly recommend it.

Do yourself a favor and don't buy them all. Some are less worth than others.

Good deal. Which ones are worth grabbing? I figure at the least we'd get the base game and go from there but there are some deals to be had when buying a few at once. Get it from a cheaper internet place but combine shipping.

www.gameoutfitter.com has some good prices that I've found. Little wary though.

38 and change is about as low as you're going to get that one still in shrink. Why the wariness? Afraid of the sites reputation?

If you're on the east coast, I'd say just get it from Coolstuffinc.com. At the very least, Astro and myself are staunch users and I personally haven't bought a shrinkwrapped game from any other site since I've started using it.

Dunwich is a good start with the Arkham xpacs, but I'd say there's plenty game there where you don't need any of them quite yet.

Yeah, Zooloretto doesn't totally do it for me. BUT BOARD GAMES ON THE IPHONE. SUPPORT!!!!

I would if 99% of them weren't Knizia games... I don't mean to hate, but soooo many of them are sooo bland! :)

Hive will be getting a release in the next few months I think. There was a whole legal fiasco where some guy had a ripoff up, it got puled, now the developer is working on getting it put proper on the app store.

Yeah, its weird how unstimulated I felt by Zooloretto. Playing was like going through the motions.

Put in some preorders and bought some more GMT stuff today since this was the last day of their sale. Big purchase was 1914: Twilight in the East , which a friend was very eager to play through (though we are going to have a devil of a time with space issues, there are like 4 full size maps). Also grabbed SPQR Deluxe, the fourth Musket and Pike game, and set in three preorders.

Really nice discounts, but golly it hurt meh wallet. Had to dismantle my fully kitted out Magic five color control deck to pay for it under my own sort of PAYGO hobby rules, but everyone hated playing against that thing anyway.

Got an order in today.

Big O' Box full of:

Citadels
Dominion: Intrigue (yes, I'm SO last month)
Tikal
Warrior Knights

I've been stoked for Warrior Knights forever. After a misfire on my birthday (when my girlfriend accidentally ordered the expansion and not the base game), I finally pulled the trigger. I've read through the rules and multiple reviews and I think the whole system sounds full of wonderful mechanics.

Tikal I knew little about, but it seems to get a lot of love on the Geek. I don't true own a game with action points per turn I don't believe, so I'm interested in seeing how that turns out. Also, and this is huge for me: FUCKING AWESOME INSERT. In insert heaven, this guy reigns supreme with Memoir '44. Everything has a nice little place to be tucked away. I think the box size could have been halved though.

Finally, Citadels should be good fun. A ton of other light filler games like this are generally loved by my group, and any game with backstabbing in it is always a plus. This will be good on the evenings when the beer makes things a little too hazy for WK or Game of Thrones, etc, etc.

P.S. The day after I made this order Middle-earth Quest was in stock. Fuck. I bit the bullet and paid shipping on that one, haha.

Just as Neverfade said. Get Dunwich and maybe one of the smaller ones (King in yellow, Dark Pharaoh) if you really want more than just a single expansion.

I won an eBay auction for a lightly used Arkham Horror. I ended up getting the game for $22.00 which is just cheap enough for me to give it a shot. I've read the rules and countless threads over at BGG so I know what I'm getting myself into. It should be fun.

We had a few friends over today and played Catan Cities and Knights, LNoE, and Vegas Showdown.

I was able to grab 5 players for LNoE and had a blast. We played the truck scenario. We had gassed up the truck but ran out time before we found the keys. The keys were actually the last card in the stack so we were screwed from the beginning. I guess that is what sucks about certain scenarios. Searching a deck for one card is a royal pain.

I find it pretty funny how my wife constantly admonishes me "We don't need any more board games yet, we need to play the ones we've got first." We get to the board game store, I'm looking at stuff with no real intention of buying anything but newest Catan Card Game expansion (still no luck) and Twilight Struggle reprint/new edition/whatever (not out yet?). Then she goes into the "recommended for 2 players" section and wants to buy everything.

We picked up something called "Timestreams" a two player time-travel based card game. Hopefully it works out as well as our last whim-purchase (Kachina, which I still heartily endorse!)

Twilight Struggle reprint w/ Euro-class components should be out in November, according to GMT's P500 page.

Played a few games of Pandemic, finally won a game (with only one other person as well). Tried playing a variant where the two of us controlled two people each, that went very poorly.

I'm sure this is very late for anybody in this thread, but I played my first game of Catan last night, and it was...

AWESOME. Surprisingly fast moving, simple, but with amazing depth of strategy. Definitely got my wife and our friends hooked, can't wait to play more.

Welcome! If you have a 360 definitely grab the version for XBLA.

Kind of a bummer they never release Cities & Knights or any of the other expansions. Thought it was a pretty great implementation. Only real niggle I remember is that I didn't like the info about # of each card being public.

Yeah, that changed the game in a major way. Though perhaps they were assuming that higher level players count cards?

My only big gripe with the game is that I suspect there's a bug in the achievements. I'm pretty sure I've played more than enough to land the last two victory point achievements and haven't yet earned them.

Yah I still haven't gotten the achievement for 1000 VPs in ranked. I got the rest. I have something like 60 wins and 80 losses. I should easily have 1000 vps.

My wishlist on CoolStuffInc.com:

Arkham Horror Board Game
Dominion: Intrigue Board Game
Pandemic Board Game
Race for the Galaxy: Rebel Vs Imperium Expansion
Race for the Galaxy: The Gathering Storm Expansion
Ticket To Ride Board Game

A friend and I are each grabbing a couple things to get the $100 free shipping. Damn new hobbies. It's real easy to spend a bundle :lol

It's not that expensive-the games are readily tradeable/sellable used when you get tired of a game, and they have very high per-hour value. It's somewhat pricey to get a set of 8-10 games right out of the bat to play with a friend, but not that bad.

Games Workshop are jerks about online modules made by fans, which sort of sucks because Space Hulk is just the kind of thing I'd want to play online casually.

Space Hulk is back! Games Workshop releasing a new edition of their classic and long out of print board game Space Hulk. Some very nice new pieces. Sadly they are stating this is a limited edition thing so there might not be future reprints after this sells out.

This is definitely going to be mine. I've been hoping for a while that it would be re-released.

Does anyone have a specific date for the Pandemic expansion release?

AstroLad said:
yeah tell me about it (at 85+ games and counting now).

Wow that's crazy. You could start you're own board game store. :lol

AstroLad said:
Well that game went by about as fast as you'd expect when someone gets a perfect military draw.

hehe He looked slow out of the gate, but he really started snowballing towards the end.

Holy smokes, that seems like a large jump from the last collection picture you had posted. Speaking of, we should make that a regular thing, every several months!

I'll have to remember to snap a shot of mine later.

My collection no longer fits on the large shelf in the walk in closet that it was stored on.

EDIT: Crikey, I think this is the third page in the row I've gotten the first post (100 post/page setting)

EDIT: again, ok, guess just the second.

We literally got extra storage in our apartment building so I could clear stuff out and make our big closet exclusively our game closet.

Mine has shelving units for books, and video games, and then a large shelf about 6 feet up, above those other ones, extending about 10 feet, and then about 4, in an L shape, with about 2, maybe 3 feet of space to the ceiling. The short side of the L has all my old system's games (NES, SNES etc). The long part is almost completely taken with board gaming stuff. I've got a stack of 8 right now that can't fit up there (could maybe get two of them up, but avalanche risk would be high).

I was keeping my games in a gigantic trunk (one they [used to?] issue to House of Representatives members). By far the larget trunk I've ever seen, but it's since overflown. I've yet to find an awesome shelf that doesn't look cheap/trashy/clashes and can actually fit games on its shelves.

I'll pass on the obvious Joe Scarbourogh/Gary Condit joke on that trunk and the reason for it's large size. :lol

Shelving you install yourself is the way to go, though at the same time being vigilant about not having a huge collection of rarely played is also VERY helpful as well as ensuring that you have spare cash to get the Hot New Game (tm) when it comes out.

I use DIY grid shelves for the closet. Prevents games being crushed by making a lot of grids. One thing I don't like that I see on BGG a lot is having game boxes out in the open. While certain games and game boxes look very nice, the mishmash is just insanely fugly. dsfdf though.

So it looks like I'm having a big board gaming party on Saturday. Starting in the mid afternoon and going until we can takes no more. Exact game choices are TBD based on exact head count, but almost definitely will include Dominion and Citadels, and hopefully Power Grid. One of the attendees was mentioning bringing Pandemic too, so I might get to try that out.
