Bob Ross videogame go poof?

So I recently remembered that there was supposed to be a Bob Ross videogame. Granted, it was made by some no-name "developer" with no publisher, but STILL, hope was there. It was gonna happen, and it was gonna be amazing. I KNEW IT.

Anywho, I remembered it and went to check on its status. Well bobross.com says that some art contest for the game has ended. But I can't find any other mention of the game. Wikipedia says it was being developed by AGFRAG (worst name ever?), but they dropped it and its current development status is unknown. agrfrag.com shows that it was just some guy who's made a couple of demo games that he entered into GDC.

In conclusion, after my thorough research, does this mean that the MAGNIFICENT game that would've been Bob Ross is most likely gone (and also most likely never was)? Say it ain't so, Joe. Say it ain't so.

sarcasm meter should be reading faint amounts, but i was secretly hoping for it to happen, could've been cool

egh, it was a flawed concept from the beginning. Would've been pretty lame in this day and age anyway, imho.

Unless, of course, it was a game where Bob Ross went around smoking joints and saving happy little trees from evil strip miners. That would've been tits.

I wanted to get it in the hopes that it would include clips of Bob Ross painting mountains and streams, all covered with happy little trees.

It was "announced" to be exclusive to both the DS and the Wii.

Actually, it was later announced to be Wii exclusive.

The developer seemed like a bit of a tool, though. That's just my opinion, of course.

AGFRAG is no longer handling the development for the Bob Ross game unfortunately.

I'm not sure I understand why that's unfortunate. Maybe the license will go to someone who will use it, now.

:lol What a shocker.

The official story: See below.

What we heard: In April, gamers were pleasantly surprised when news broke that a DS, Wii, and PC game based on the PBS art show The Joy of Painting was in the works. The show, which ran in the 1980s and early 1990s, was hosted by the late Bob Ross, who painted landscapes with "happy little trees" and "happy little clouds." Ross became a cult hero not only for his artistic abilities, but also for his soothing voice, brown afro, and amicable demeanor.

Little was known about the games except that they were scheduled to be developed by AGFRAG Entertainment Group, a small studio largely concentrating on PC flash games.

Unfortunately, the trees, mountains, and clouds won't be happy to hear that the game is currently in limbo. On the Bob Ross Game Yahoo Group, which the developers used to keep gamers up-to-date on the project, the following message was posted:

"AGFRAG is no longer involved in the development of ANY Bob Ross Game. Please contact Bob Ross Inc. for further information. Thank You." (emphasis in original.)

GameSpot contacted Joseph Hatcher, head of AGFRAG to confirm the message. Hatcher reiterated the previous statement, saying, "We will not be developing the game on any platform."
Citing legal reasons, Hatcher was unable to give details of his company's decision. However, he did leave the door open for the game to live on. "We are not saying it is canceled in anyway," he told GameSpot.

Following his conversation with GameSpot, Hatcher updated the AGFRAG Web site with the following message:

"I'm sorry that we have disappointed so many people on a certain project. Please realize we did what we felt was best, with the cards that were dealt to us and the situation we were in. We have learned from the experience and we won't make the same mistakes twice. The companies we dealt with were professional in every way and we enjoyed working with them while we did and appreciated the opportunities they presented to us. You won't hear anything about our next game until it's almost on shelves."

While it is possible that another developer may hop on board, Bob Ross Inc. would be hard pressed to find another taker for what looks to be merely a cult project.

Bob Ross Inc. did not have any news of the game posted on its Web site as of today. Requests for comment from Bob Ross Inc. were unanswered as of press time.

Bogus or not bogus?: Unlike Bob's tranquil landscapes, the picture does not look good. Not bogus.

"By hook or by crook there will be a game," said Jane Kowalski, media director for Bob Ross Inc. "There's no way we couldn't do a game because everybody wants one badly."

Back in April, Joseph Hatcher, head of the little-known game developer the Adaptive Gatekeeper & Fearless Rogue of Addictive Gaming Entertainment, announced his intention to create Bob Ross games for the Nintendo Wii and DS
Whoa whoa, wait, THATS what AGFRAG stands for!? :lol :lol

Just more confirmation that it's the worst name ever. I'm thinking it's a good think that this guy isn't making the game anymore. I wonder if they'll be able to get a developer that's actually made a commercially released game (maybe the developer will even have more than just a crappy myspace).

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
Bob Ross game would rock if it let you paint while an old episode ran in a window.

Didnt even really know who this guy was until i started watching Peep Show (UK Sitcom)

They based alot of their decisions on what Bob did. But referred to him as 'God'
