Bomberman, WTF happened to you?

the best imo

hqdefault.jpg

it also had the most interesting rivals and a descent plot twist

People liked this? I remember hating it, and everyone else back when it came out.

They should have taken the direction of Bomberman 64 and used it as inspiration for future entries in the series. You can't keep doing top down 2d Bomberman without it becoming stale.

I want a new Bomberman with local multiplayer, even if it's a digital only game :(

Fuck Konami. Why did the buy Hudson?

I dunno if this was a "good" game from a technical standout but I must have gotten 100s of hours of enjoyment from this game with my friends back in the day :) Loved it to pieces.

I got the NetLink edition of Saturn Bomberman in 2002.

I assume that will still work now, and for all time, since it doesn't depend on things like Live, PSN or even Dreamcast's SegaNet. No online service, no servers. Just direct dial-up.

Well it depends on old-school phone lines which probably won't be around forever.

I bought that Net De Bomberman. A supposedly rare Bomberman title for the PS2, which seems to hark back to the unreleased Hi-Ten Bomberman, and Saturn Bomberman.

I'll take video and screens when it comes in.

Bomberman: Act Zero was cursed.

The PR guy Hudson hired for that ended up murdering his family and then killing himself. And he had posted here, too.

I want to call bullshit, but I can honestly see something like that happening with how badly things went with Act Zero.

OP asks "Bomberman WTF happened to you?!?"

People (apparently from some kind of alternate universe) post about how 'great' bomberman 64 games were...

Welp, there's your answer.

Nothing ever beat super bomberman.

I literally skipped most of the topic, but there's tons of great Bomberman titles post Super Bomberman, more than I can count on both hands. Some even on the Super Famicon, itself.

Super Bomberman 2-5
Saturn Bomberman
64
Bomberman Live: Battlefest
Max 1 and 2
Panic Bomberman

Even a few mobile titles are awesome.

Why no talk of Bomberman Online for Dreamcast? Or am I just missing something?

I thought it had a lot of excellent arenas, and retained the more classic cross bombs people seem to like.

Is it a good opportunity now to bring up Wario Blast?

YES IT IS

tumblr_mu3p1tyWuu1qd4q8ao1_500.gif

Back in the days, I traded in my copy for Donkey Kong '94, which is a really great game, but I found myself missing Wario Blast quite often. I might have to get it back someday. Too bad Hudson never did another Bomberman cross-over game after this one (or did they ?).

Here's hoping he gets a spot in the new Smash Bros, always felt he would fit in nicely (in terms of moveset and setting) so it would be a nice send off to B-Man

Hell yeah, Wario Blast was awesome back in the day. I remember playing multiplayer together with my family on the Super Gameboy. I thought that memory couldn't be true and looked it up, turns out the game even has 4 player support if you have a multitap. What a great little gem.

What I've seen of single player Bomberman on Wii (latest I've seen) was pretty pathetic with its lame attempts at a story. I guess it was still a good game for multiplayer but didn't really try, I was so disgusted with it. I'd rather play the old Mega Bomberman on Megadrive where no stupid unskippable animations about some stupid Bomberman world are forced down my throat for ten minutes instead of the actual game.

My copy of Net De Bomberman came in. I'll try and get some recordings up soon. There's very little info on it out there, at the moment. From what I gather, it (like Saturn Bomberman) harks back to the Hi-Ten Bomberman concepts.

As far as I know, this is the only known footage.

Wasn't this game playable for free on the PC a while ago?

I'm not talking about the sorta-MMO Bomberman with crap controls that can be played on a browser, but something that only existed in Japan. I remember playing it quite a lot a few years ago. The layout was the same as Net de Bomberman, complete with the blue dashboard on the right. You had to create an account and could gain ranks and points to spend on accessories.

Nintendo should have bought Hudson, or at least picked up a few of their IPs.

ND Cube is surely big enough to work on ____ Party and smaller games at the same time, right?

Nintendo should strike a deal with Konami to finish up Hudson's canned 3DS games with various partners like NdCube and Natsume. I wouldn't mind some IP sharing like Bomberman and Bonk showing up in the next Mario Party either.

Been saying for years Nintendo should buy Bomberman. Teaming NdCube and Natsume for Omega Five 3DS would be sick as well. But I'm not sure how much Hudson had to do with OF, I thought they just published it.

BTW, the PC-Engine Bonk game is now out on Wii U VC in JP. :)

I just finished transcribing Mario Party Island Tour's credits at least up to the localization part, note the names with no link to MobyGames MAY be a slight misspelling, I'll look into it later on. :P

I was really looking forward to the Bomberman 3DS game. From what little video and screenshots we got of it before it was quietly cancelled, it really reminded me of Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Hero.

Supposed synopsis: "Bomberman was a game scheduled for the Nintendo 3DS that was cancelled. Little known about this game aside from the fact that there is a single player adventure and a multiplayer mode. The story involved Bomberman having to save Central City from a robot corp." You mean the Japan exclusive Bomberman Online World and its failed revival Bomberman Online Japan?
