Bombs detonated at Boston Marathon finish line

Side note I guess but it really baffles me at how truly horrible CNN is. They seem completely lost, not just in the way they cover politics but the way they cover...everything else. They were basically running blatant propaganda on North Korea last week, hyping an enemy that couldn't attack us if it wanted to. And of course they have really shat the bed with this Boston coverage too. I don't get how bad they are at everything. Fox is certainly good at what they do, as is MSNBC.

Story of a pediatric physician on CNN right now who kept running right into the blast zone to help people. CPR, helping with tourniquets, etc., just incredible, incredible stuff.

So powerful.

Chasing the ratings and the guy who fucked over Conan is in charge. It's not all garbage but a lot is.

Can someone quickly update me on the current situation? Any more news, pictures etc? Last time I checked in was yesterday about 6 hours after the blasts.

Interview in Spanish with Carlos Arredondo. (Cowboy hat hero from Costa Rica)

Pretty visceral stuff, jumping into a pool of blood, helping the ladies seen in that gruesome picture, and finally the young man who had no legs next to them.

Sorry I can't translate, on my phone.

Edit: added

And video of him speaking about it to a passerby.
Still shaking from it all. Damn.

Yeah, so nothing new. Glad to hear there are no more deaths.

Did the 'additional devices' turn out to be nothing then?

Edit: And what's all this talk about a bag?

The "additional devices" were random packages they thought might be bombs but weren't

They found a dark nylon material or something and are having it analyzed in a lab. So they think it's a dark backpack, maybe

Wow... What an amazing human being, that is unbelievable.

Erin Burnett: Why is a mailbox there?
Man: Ummmm....the U.S. postal service probably put it there.

You gotta give her credit. She seems to be the only one asking the least stupid questions.

And she's hot.

That's the same guy who was talking to people about world peace and stuff before all this shit went down isn't it? Jumping in to help people are soon as shit went down, he talks the talk and walks the walk it seems. Good on him.

Ah, thanks for the info. So I guess whoever sent it wasn't that experienced. I'd rather not speculate to be honest, but it seems that way.

Of course it could still be completely unrelated to the Boston incident.

They might already know:

Senator Claire McCaskill, Democrat of Missouri, told reporters after the Napolitano briefing that the letter had come from someone who frequently writes lawmakers. She said the person had been identified, but she declined to divulge the name.

That said, the tests could be a false positive. But the part in bold implies to me that this particular troublemaker is domestic, whether or not he is connected to the Boston incident.

Man this is odd no new info on who could have done this, my bet is on domestic terrorism.
Like the Oklahoma bombing

News is reporting that the bombs used are one of the same types uses in Iraq and Afganistan. And the tactics are the same: placed in an area with lots of people.

The terrorist may not have been from another country. But he may have had foreign influence.

These bombs are fairly ubiquitous. That's like saying an AK-47 is one of the same type of guns used in Iraq and Afganistan.

I'm pretty sure most bombs are placed in an area with a lot of people.

in other words, they're bombs. The CNN expert said it best: if you have a background in foreign terrorism, you'll see foreign influence and if you have a background in domestic terrorism, you'll see domestic influence

Where else has a pressure cooker been used as a bomb in the US?

Dude. Read what you just posted and realize how broad and "uninformetive" it is.

It was simply an IED. Any connection to Iraq/Afghanistan what you just listed implied is tenuous at best. The design for the type of IED used are easily found all over the place.

I get how it looks like I'm playing blame game, but the second part of that statement is more to suggest this poison attempt is separate from the bombings. After all, that is what this thread is about.

I see. I guess I would not make assumptions about motive so quickly, but I do agree that it is probably separate.

In the US? I don't know of many bombings going on in the US, but these types of devices aren't exclusive to Iraq and Afganistan.

Alternative answer to this question:

In the US?

IN MY KITCHEN!

Am I right fellas?

Come on man, really? You can find information for IED's and almost any type "how-to" guides to craft bombs online.

Didn't say they were. Also, I'm quoting from the analysts and "experts" from ABC, MSNBC, and CNN.

I know, I was just being armchair internet guy and 'correcting' the experts. The fact that it was a pressure cooker bomb doesn't indicate origin is all.

Grand Central Terminal 1976
Times Square 2010
Fort Hood 2011 (plot)

Awesome points because the last two places you listed were ones that the news pointed out as being constructed by people who had been talking with terrorists overseas.

There is close to nothing happening in the US in terms of bombs being detonated to draw a reference/comparison to what happens in the Middle East. If someone wanted to make a bomb in the US, regardless of their influence or motive, they most certainly would consider -- if not actually use -- similar readily available mechanisms as the ones you see in the Middle East.

It's just common sense. It's not like we can say "bombers here dont use pressure cookers, so therefore it must be foreign"

We know how. The question is why? Was this someone who has been inspired by an extremist cause? Maybe. Or maybe not. Makes me think though.

It could even been someone who wanted to make it look like it was foreign.

Bet you didn't think of that.

So you're saying it was a Sicilian?

Because it seems to have a lot in common with the time square bombing plot. What was used and where it was placed. Yemeni terrorists even wrote an online booklet about attacking sporting events, what to use, and where to place them.

True, it may very well be just another McVeigh who's pissed off at the US and the world. But it's not as far fetched as you seem to think it is.
