Fun gameplay
Beautifully detailed graphics.
Really enjoyed the hordes.

But I hated the ending of this game, (well the final 1/3rd anyway)

Haven't played Days Gone yet, but definitely planned on getting it and playing it on my PS5. I was always curious, but a lot of the reactions I saw here definitely made me even more interested.

Downloaded this yesterday and just have no love for it. Voice acting is good, looks and sounds brilliant and if you like these sort of games I feel you will love it, but there is nothing in it for me to fell like I HAVE to carry on. In order of things that put me off (and yes, I'm sure I need to git gud, that goes without saying)

  • Lack of Ammo in the beginning makes it a stealth simulation
  • Melee attacks take forever to finish a zombie off
  • Controls and camera during combat feels a bit chaotic
  • Map/Mission screen just seems like a confusing mess.
I dunno, I feel bad saying this as I KNOW this is just me, its just how the game works, but I just didn't get IT. Gonna give it a few days and jump in again, maybe then it will all click.

The mediocre reviews for Days Gone angered me more than the hate reviews for TLOU2. My friend refuses to play Days Gone based on reviews and he is someone who usually plays everything. I know he will love it but won't try it even though his main platform is the PS5 and now has it for free now on Plus and its 4K/60.

Give it time, the first couple hours is like that but it really is a decent game, I ended up loving it in the end, when you unlock some more weapons and upgrades, its really fun and the gunplay is fun too.

Remember it is a survival game so a zombie does not take one hit and ammo and fuel being rationed makes it more intense, otherwise what's the point if there is no real risk of getting caught out or dying.

Amazing game! Got the plat on the ps4 and I will finish it again once I get a ps5!

I loved the "secret" ending, can't wait for a sequel.

Reviewers suck. They hype annual games made by ubi/ea and criticize some other games just because they are "unpolished".

This was a pretty good game. I completed it recently myself but did not know there was a secret ending. Will need to go back and take on the hordes and clear up the endgame missions.

Days Gone is pretty much the only game on the plus freebies that I’d be interested in playing (own and finished most that I’m interested in, which is like 80% of those featured).

I still want to think of that dude as star killer tho

im downloading this now lol thanks for making the thread

after finishing Demon's i am playing Uncharted 4 on the PS Plus collection. i've never played Uncharted before. this rules! also playing the Crash trilogy, which also rules. love all these PS Plus games on PS5. will be playing Days Gone in under an hour...

my only question: is it very gory? im not a fan of gore, one reason i don't play many zombie games. however the open world biker thing is very appealing to me and the game looks spectacular, so i'll give it a shot.

Totally agree, it just seemed to me that not enough happened in the first 2 hours or so to give me a reason to continue. Nothing grabbed me and made me think "I NEED to carry on" nothing made me care enough to see where the story goes, know what I mean?

I can definitely see how others would enjoy it though. Just maybe its not for me.

I have this game for months now and barely played past the first 5 missions but I want to wait for PS5 to continue my game in full fat 4k/60fps.

In fact all my PS4 games that i have yet not touched in months, i want to finish them on PS5 as i'm expecting most if not all of them to get some sort of upgrade on next gen.

But from what i played so far, this game has potential to be good. Some say the game really opens up in the 2nd half so excited to get to that point.
If someone could loan me a PS5 for a week, that'd be great. I'll send it right back when i'm done, i swear.

Everything in the game evolves as you play. What and how you play in the beginning is nothing like how it plays later on. Your weapons for example are rated and start off as poor which affects how they handle, amount of ammo they hold, damage etc.

Later in the game it goes all the way up to military spec and you basically become John Rambo.

I hope days gone will get a 60fps patch because I’m definitively going to give it a try does days gone run at 4k60 on Ps5 btw?
The game got patched for PS5, i've played it at 60fps but only downsampled on a plasma and since the PS5 removed the zoom option (hope they'll add it in future updates) i can't quite judge properly IQ.

But yes, fuck wolves.
You have no idea how much i'm enjoying my revenge on those fuckers with the IPCA gun in NG+.
Yes i still have to climb on something first but man, never though i'd be enjoying frying and electrocuting canines this much.

I was looking forward to Days Gone since the very first trailer. I had it pre-ordered and everything. Once the reviews dropped (I only looked at the numeric scores), I felt unsure and decided to cancel my order. Fortunately, it was too late. The game was already preparing to ship.

Turned out to be my favorite game of the generation, and top 10 all time. Even bought the CE. To think I almost missed out because of some lame reviews. I pretty much stopped looking at reviews after that.

After finishing the game, I decided to actually read through the reviews just to see what their problems were. Once I saw complaints like “all the zombies are white” I was done. Haven’t read a Gamespot review since.

I would suggest you go back and replay several other games that were poisoned by the critics.
Thanks, out of those at the moment i'm interested in The Last Guardian and Death Stranding (which my brother bought recently, so i'm probably going to try that soon).

Vick Vick turn on motion aiming to help with the guns. Give it about 10 mins of use and you’ll start to hit your shots more consistently. Crank the sensitivity to 10 if you need to.
Oh, you're right. I completely forgot about the motion sensor aiming in this.. will try as soon as i can.

Days Gone was one of my favorite games of the generation and I didn’t expect it to be.
You and me both man.

Look at the fuss made over the “promise to ride me” line that happened. There’s a scene where Deacon checks out Sarah’s ass. Bend Studio seems to be more blue collar than most studios and if there’s one thing lefties can’t stand, it’s blue collar people who they view as their inferiors. You may think that’s an exaggeration, but it goes all the way into their soul.
I've enjoyed the shit out of every single one of those instances. Too bad they contributed to such an awful reception though.

TLOU2 is my fav game of all time, so i'm not expecting much here, but this does look and sound fun.

hope its a good surprise

On the contrary, TLOU2 is the biggest disappointment of my life, and saying i didn't enjoy Days Gone as much as i did also because it often feels like the complete opposite of that game would be a lie. Really, the complete opposite, even the main theme of that game, it's the complete opposite here, to the point i feel like Sony made this game just so they could let ND make TLOU2 their own way. I just wish i knew it before.
Granted some things in TLOU2 are unparalleled so don't expect the same quality here 1:1 on everything. But some gameplay elements are actually better here, some graphical details much better even, and the dynamic unpredictable open world design will truly let those mechanics and survival elements shine. And it's a way funnier game.

Best open world in years as in this world you feel you are hunted and in danger, it's the experience of a survival horror expanded to the open world mechanic with coherence.

I loved it.
Exactly man, this so much.

It deserves a 10 for me. Looking forward to the sequel.
I'm actually scared about it. Thing is, i loved everything here, don't want major changes so let's hope they stick with what they did not giving a single damn about reviewers.

Is it much tougher than Hard ll other then that ?
Yes man, enemies are not only deadlier but they are faster, and if you played the game you know what that means when fighting hordes managing stamina. I suggest playing challenges first as they will give you some really nice boost in the main game.

Only mission I really struggled on was that one where you go into a cave and all then infected Wolves rape you .
I have yet to encounter them on Survival II, but if you unlocked the IPCA gun they should't be much of a problem as long as you're fighting one at a time. I'm punishing the shit out of regular wolves at the moment.

Give this game a chance people , its amazing.
Preach.

Its an amazing game and looks next gen on ps5. Enjoy it
I'm looking at people with Days Gone avatars with completely different eyes now. You guys are the best.

It wasn’t for me. Got to the second map section and wished the game was wrapping up. I didn’t have the patience or desire to continue.
Yeah, i can totally understand. I'm in lockdown so i could completely immerse myselft into it for a shameful amount of hours a day, but in normal circumstances it would have taken months to finish it. The thing is, this game is still introducing stuff to you even after hundreds of hours and in some cases even after the first playthrough.

It's almost TOO wide open. I need more direction.
I understand, but please give it another try. The map is big, yes, but it's not like many open worlds which throw endless random landscapes before you. Here you can totally become familiar with the environment because each area is manually crafted and feature unique things you will recognize. I'm playing on Surival II now so with no HUD and believe me when i say i know where i'm going and which road I have to take to reach certain points.

I played it this year on ps4 slim.. not only it ran terrible but I found it too long, quests too bullshitty and story plain sucked ass.
The world and graphics are nice though.
The game is not underrated... by now it is overrated
The only way for this game to not be underrated would be living in a reality were all Ubisoft games score way below 5, and Rockstar games the same as this one because in terms of gameplay, game structure and actual fun and engagement or unique mechanics they simply cannot hold a candle to Days Gone. Like there's not even a contest, they all have nothing to offer and i don't see how anyone could possibly disagree with this fact.

Voice acting is good, looks and sounds brilliant and if you like these sort of games I feel you will love it
Those things are inferior to TLOU so no, it's not at all the reason to love the game.

  • Lack of Ammo in the beginning makes it a stealth simulation
  • Melee attacks take forever to finish a zombie off
  • Controls and camera during combat feels a bit chaotic
  • Map/Mission screen just seems like a confusing mess.
Gonna give it a few days and jump in again, maybe then it will all click.
- The lack of ammo is a non problem after, if you can manage your resources.
- The time required to take an enemy out only depends on your weapon and the skills you unlocked.
- Never had such problems.
- You will get used to it, you can check your progress on every little thing in those menu, just take one minute to understand them.

my only question: is it very gory? im not a fan of gore, one reason i don't play many zombie games.
Yes, it is. But give it a shot anyway.

Man, i completely understand you. But you have to realize two hours in Days Gone are like 2 seconds in some other game. You haven't seen anything and i mean it, but mostly you haven't felt anything in terms of gameplay.. this is a long ass game and as i said it will introduce you to new things or mechanics constantly.
Just try lo unlock some skills, find some good weapon, upgrade your bike and try to take on a baby horde, once you'll feel that rush you wouldn't want to put this game down. And this is still nothing compared to the later game.

There’s gore and dismemberment but it doesn’t dwell on it too much as the game can be very fast paced.

Just watch out for those wolves.

Wanted to try this on the PS5 (previous playthrough was on PS4 Pro), so decided to try New Game+ last night, and started Hard II mode. (on NG+ there is Easy, Normal, Hard, Hard II, Survival, and Survival II).

The emotions on the character faces in cut scenes is amazing.

Environmental graphics are also amazing (especially ground foliage), and now having that 60 fps, makes it all the more sweeter.

Hard to believe this is a PS4 game? Could easily pass as a PS5 game.

Let's see if it holds me for another complete playthrough.

Dualshock motion has significantly more fidelity compared to ds4 too. Didn’t know it was possible, but it’s obvious.

Wonder how it translates to the game.

Its a great game. Some of the most natural development of flawed characters in a video game that I've come across.
I remember really liking all the characters and Deacon’s arc as well.

Copeland, Tucker, Iron Mike, all great in their own way. I’d probably be hanging at Cope’s mostly with runs to Iron Mike’s on occasion. Cope might be a little crazy, but I like the guy and Iron Mike is a boss.

I remember lots of people being sort of down on the game before and after its release. I'm glad it's getting the credit it deserves. Haven't played it myself but I always wondered what the PS5 would do for a game like this. Higher resolution while holding down 60fps during even the most crazy zombie hordes adds lots to the experience.

I was testing this the other day on the keyboard screen. It seems there’s near-zero or zero drift on the gyro. I haven’t put it to the test in any games just yet, but once I get my new TV I’m going back into Days Gone for a full playthrough and only using motion aiming.

Reviewers are wrong A LOT. I never trust them. LOU2 gets high ratings because of it's SJW content. Days Gone got poor ratings due to it's lack of it.

One of the best games of this generation for me, I platinumed this title the week it launched and got to speak personally with John Garvin himself as he congratulated me for being one of the first to get the plat, still remains one of my best gaming memories. Such a special game.

Also the development team were so open to chatting about the game, learnt some really cool stories on how they got the atmosphere right from the dynamic weather engineer.

There’s no doubt a circle of journos ‘talk’ to each other; decided the game was going against progressive values and is overly masculine aka. Toxic in its setting. From there they just ape each other and it snowballs. Game did not get a fair assessment in the mainstream.

Sadly the SJW mafia did send a strong message that a price will be paid if straying from their closed minded ideology. Fully expect a Days Gone 2 to be a female story, or at least something bland and going out of its way to be non offensive.

One thing I adore about Days Gone is how organic it felt.

I watched that sawmill demo a thousands times over but in the middle of exploring I accidentally ran into the area without realising, there were some random enemies with guns on the road and as I was low on ammo I ran down the muddy path whilst they fired pot shots at me, I kept running and fired a shot back, then I heard a groan, then another, and another. And by the time I'd turned around to see what was behind me, I was being swarmed by a sea of Freakers.

I screamed and ran towards the entrance in which I came through, getting into my bike and trying to haul ass out of there, the bandits had long gone after hearing the horde, I got away by the skin of my teeth with the horde millimetres away from a Deacon Deluxe Meal, you can bet I got my revenge on that horde later on in the game for making me scream like a pussy.

I've read plenty of the reviews, takeaway from most felt the game had a bland story while being another open-world derivative with zombies. Not bad. Not great either. It's clear with the extra layer of performance PS5 provides, this game shines in the way it was always meant to. If they make a sequel I hope they'll lean harder into survival aspect.

I am NEVER going to care about reviews ever again in my life, it's a promise.

There's not really much to say, i can't recall the last time i was this hooked to a game.. i thought it was a matter of age at this point but fuck me i'm still a child apparently because this is making me feel the urge to play more like it only happened years and years ago. The last time i felt truly addicted to a game was probably with Oblivion, previously San Andreas and even previously Pokémon Yellow. I wake up wanting to play more, think about the game when i'm not home, hell, even writing this right now feels like i'm wasting time.
What a game.. you can so easily tell the team put their hearts and souls into this. Six fucking regions of extremely carefully designed areas down to most intimate details, sublime controls for both Deacon and bike (the Metacritic score difference between RDR2 and Witcher 3 and Days Gone is so laughable it should be a meme), every single moment of traversal can be super tense, meaningful skill three, meaningful upgrades, meaningful weapons unlocks, meaningful map and camp clearing, and unlike those games there's something completely unique here, such as hordes.. There's no game like this.

I ain't got much time so here a summary.

The Good:
• Game controls amazing and look as good as a ND game in terms of animations. Feels much better than TLOU2.
• The bike feels super good to handle, heavy and realistic but incredibly fun especially fully upgraded, almost like a Motorstorm successor. So good even going downhill in neutral to spare gas feels amazing.
• Gameplay is constantly engaging for a reason or another. Can turn from 0 to 100 in matter of seconds, anytime.
• Hordes are pure adrenaline rush. Always.
• There's a shit ton of traps and bombs or special ammo that you can craft so the planning potential is literally infinite, a true sandbox of opportunities.
• Locations, locations, locations. Oregon is a such a stunning place and every inch of this world is crafted with love and care.
• The story is actually interesting and features some really well written characters (and i could't give a single shit about bikers and such).
• You can actually “mark your territory” in this world, the game remember which car you opened and things you looted so you always know which area you've explored already (the game is designed well enough that each location feels unique, but it's still super welcome and something i'd want in every open world).
• The campaign is so long it feels like two games packed into one, like a multi season TV series. The game is immense.
• The game itself, in terms of characters, story and influences feels like something out of the 90's, completely detached from what the industry and media in general is now and i can't express how much i loved that.
• The secret ending got me good and i really liked the unique take on "zombies".
• Missions are varied enough and fit well into the lore.
• You can grab or craft a melee weapon and still chose to use your pocket knife whenever you want (you heard that ND?!)
• Best open world graphics i’ve ever seen. Dynamic PCSS on consoles.. why on Earth there’s no mention of this on the Internet is blowing my mind. Naughty Dogs struggling with simple static shadows in daytime and this game is flexing with flawless dynamic PCSS in an open world and still features the little touches seen in ND games like the character proximity occlusion and even a simplified version of the dynamic GI from the torch, game is a pleasure to the eyes, UE fully redeemed.
• A real and proper weather system which also affect gameplay in various forms, and only game i've ever seen with dynamic snowfalls which transform the environment in real time.
• Challenges are hard as hell but super, super fun. And rewards are applied to the main game (and even seen on Deacon jacket) and that's simply awesome.

The Bad:
• Gunplay is only serviceable. Spraying hordes with machine guns feels amazing but forget about precision without using focus. Well not really as i have a Gold patch for the headshot challenge without focus, but it’s not a strenght and takes too much time to be reliable.
• Golf buggy in that one challenge doesn't control nearly as good as the bike.
• I predicted a story beat.
• Fuck wolves. Seriously, fuck them. When they silently follow your bike just to suddenly attack from behind as soon as you get off.. i love my heart going crazy during hordes but fuck those heart attacks out of nowhere.

The Ugly:
• Transitions from cutscene to gameplay look dated.
• Lack of AI options. Don't get me wrong, encounters are fun and all enemies try flanking maneuvers (even hordes), and probably i wouldn't want to play agaist smarter enemies, but customized options like TLOU2 would be more than welcome at least for human enemies.
• I hate the lack of HUD options. I've only learned about dynamic HUD in Survival mode during the middle of my Hard playthrough and that bothered the shit out of me.
• The directional audio is completely unrealiable.
• The awful bugs present in game when it shipped and the terribad performances on base PS4. These are things I've only heard about though.

Been playing nonstop since i got my PS5, i am now in the middle of my second playthrough on Survival II and i feel like i'm not going to stop anytime soon. My favourite Sony exclusive possibly ever, by far the most underrated game i've ever played (the two Golden Joystick Awards for Best Storytelling e PlayStation Game of the Year were super deserved at least).
I am sure the entire Copeland character with his love for the Second Amendment (and the 2nd Amendment skin for your bike) and all the truth pills (more like atom bombs) spoken on Radio Free Oregon, or the fact the only lesbian character in this game is actually bisex and lust for our male alpha character and even tries to cheat her girlfriend with him are just some of the things which definitely didn’t triggered lots of reviewers.

I know most of what i posted sounds crazy hyperbole, but never in a million years would i have imagined the game being this good.
Granted i love zombies, love Mad Max, love The Walking Dead, love Alan Wake environments and love TLOU/Uncharted combat (this is mostly TLOU but while shooting is worse than Uncharted 4, but much better than RDR2, it's also part Uncharted because of the fluidity of the flow roll-melee-shooting) and this is a perfect mix of them all.
The fact i haven't given Bend Studio money for this game is giving me pain however so i will buy it full price as soon as i can and i'll even try to find a Collector's Edition separately. Surpassed GoT, W3 and Mad Max as favourite game from the previous gen.
Don't know how much the Dualsense and PS5 performances affected my opinion, but that's it.

And i swear, the game looking like this is just a little bonus.

Was going to post way more captures but i just realized Imgur is compressing the living shit out of 4K pictures making them look like crap, so fuck that for now.

P.S. Bend Studio wrote "From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for playing" at the end of the credits, but if someone from the studio is reading this, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this unforgettable journey possible and for every effort in making this dream game a reality. :messenger_heart:

Wholesome post, glad you're enjoying gaming OP!

Instances have been noted where the reviews may have erred on the non controversial, but the reviewers comments outside of the article exposed their true feelings. As is with human nature, their devotion to an ideology would have coloured their overall opinion.

This can be seen in the other direction with e.g. The Last Of Us 2 and the bile pouring out of some people. Although I fully expect most of that to be console wars. Anyone that played it would know better.

ok already im really enjoying this. it looks really nice. the foggy forests of Oregon look very lifelike. i was actually there last year. the American northwest has exactly the kind of thick, green foliage featured here. just spinning the camera up and looking at the ground is a one way trip to some nice visuals lol. the foliage in here rules.

on top of that, so does the riding. i always through 3D games were most impressive when in motion (GTA's cities always looked best at top speed) and the biking is nice here! really good device from a story perspective too.

the story is pretty gripping already. the combat feels very much like TLOU and overall it is like that game but a different more normcore take. i've been in some crazy melee battles already and while it's super violent, it is very tasteful, it doesn't get gratuitous, at least not yet. shooting zombies w a shotgun is appropriately gratifying. the 60fps4k is just really really nice.

so far im really enjoying it.

This is the second time I'm giving up on Days Gone.. 4k60fps and fast speed loading pulled me back, made it a bit further than when I played on ps4. Now I'm bored again.

It's a solid game but it just isn't captivating, Deacon isn't likeable, story is meh and gameplay is nothing special.

I'm not sure how much you have played but it could be a bit over 2 hours closer to 3 until it really opens up a lot better.

I certainly remember it starting off slow and being like I dunno about this.. I'm biased with this game though because in real life I'm a motorcycle rider and I shoot guns for competition so a biker zombie shooter was right up my alley lol.

Deacon becomes likeable. Character arcs, man.

Oh man, that's so awesome. Could listen to this kind of shit all day long.. when i'm not playing.

It's amazing how different the game feels when actually playing it, it really scared the shit out of me on multiple occasions (like that horde ambush in the mines).
I've got a similar story, i was in the chemult college, had just looted every single room in it and cleared the front surroundings after collecting lots of ears in the process of dealing with the nests infestation (something like two hours of progress), and i have this bad habit of saving only after doing certain things, so while i was finishing looting the football area outside i suddenly hear that damn ominous theme, lots of moans and i realize a huge horde entered the college during the day and it's standing in the Nero camp right between me and the bike. I eventually managed to outrun them as i was immediately spotted, get to the bike barely alive, going far enough to save and then return to destroy the shit out of the them (but the bastards followed me outside, so as soon as i was out that tiny road to get to the college again there was another heart attack waiting for me). That feeling was something else, like if i was in that highway scene in Walking Dead S2.. with way more enemies.
Similarly, i severely underestimated the Lowbert Draw Ridge horde (i cleared most hordes before finishing the game so i had no horde size indicator), i thought i cleared almost all of them but when i'm collecting the ears down the river literally hundreds of them started falling on me from the hill and the sides, scaring the shit out of me and killing me almost instantly.

gameplay is nothing special.
This is so untrue.. there's so many elements here which are truly unique.. like luring enemies into camps to let them do the clearing, the constant hostile and impredictable nature of the open world and, simply put, no game features 500 enemies on screen at once all running towards you climbing onto one another while screaming.
And about story and characters, you'd feel much different by the end of it.

Sorry for the enormous image. If there’s a better way to show this, tell me.

You cannot create stories with characters that are not 100% woke any longer. The game is far from being sexist and still gets reamed. You either falsely represent cultures and e.g. make bikies poofy snowflakes or you simply avoid the whole thing in fear of retribution. Sad state of affairs.

Loved the game on PS4 Pro, but performance was definitely not the best. Looking forward to playing it again at 60 FPS.
