Hope there aren't any more victims. Apparently he's still on the loose.
At least one person was killed Monday when a gunman stormed Mississippi’s Delta State University campus, police and school officials said.

The Cleveland, Miss., school went into lockdown after it confirmed the an active shooter's presence on campus.

School officials confirmed that one person was killed. The victim's identity was not immediately released.

"Delta State University has confirmed one fatality. Campus remains under lockdown. Please stay inside and away from windows," the school tweeted.

As callous as it is to think or say, I hope the victims were white, since nobody cares when blacks or latinos die. But then again, nobody cares about white people either when they die by a random gunman.

Fuck this society who values guns over people...

It's a people problem, not a gun problem.

Like, I know you're just making fun of the fucktards that don't want to open their eyes and accept that regulation really needs to be looked at, but it is both. Wouldn't you say?

How fucked up does a person have to be to just wake up in the morning and say 'You know, today I think I'm just gonna go try and kill a bunch of people'?

I apologize for singling out your post, but I'm just disturbed and frustrated that this is almost a regular situation. Doesn't help that my younger brother just started college this semester. He's not at that school or that campus, but it's still just a shitty thought.

That is a little callous. White, black, hispanic, asian, a waste of a life in progress is still upsetting. These are innocent people just going about their day.

People with guns.

We had 20 white kindergarteners killed and nothing happened, so yeah.

I agree, there's a mental health and gun problem. Both go ignored, combine and leave us where we're at now.

Stuff like this being the norm.

It's kind of fucked up that even tho I live in the UK I now accept stuff like this happens in America everyday.

RIP to the victim.

Maybe I'll get slammed for this, but it's honestly just a thought I've had and I'm not sure if there is any credence to it or not.

I agree that this is more of a people problem as opposed to a gun problem. Do we have a people problem because of modern day science and medicine?

The advances we've made in those areas have greatly prolonged life, but has essentially ruled out natural selection taking place with the human species. So we have way more diseases in all areas, mental included, that could be reaching a life stage they never would have reached if not for our medicinal and scientific creations.

Regardless, yet another terrible shooting. Something has to be done, but of course it won't. Thoughts to all the victims and affected.

This happens so often that I truly don't have any feelings about it anymore.
Just another bad thing about the society that I live in.

Other developed countries have these things without anywhere near the frequency of shootings though.

Yeah, that's a good point. Though it could definitely be a combination of those countries not having the gun access that we do. So when you combine the two things you have the issue the US has.

Very sad to hear about this, but unfortunately, these sort of events don't really surprise me anymore due to how often they seem to be occuring

Shootings literally plummet when gun control is enforced. Sure, there will always be wackos, but there is hard math out there showing staggering drops in the overall amount of shootings when stricter gun control is employed in developed nations.

The average age of the mass shooter is 35 so it's not like people living "unnaturally" long life spans or whatever is a major factor here.

To non-Americans this must be shocking and insane. To us Americans it's just Monday. So sad.

ever since joining gaf any time I see a shooting thread I just shrug and go..."America"....the only one the truly effected me was the one with the kindergarten kids, I lost a lot of respect for America days after that.

No, it's a gun problem.

Call me callous, but yeah, I agree with this. If nothing happened with gun control after newtown, nothing's gonna. We just have to live with the gun lobby convincing people that lives are less important than guns.

Breaking News: Single person murdered, GAF reacts like another Virginia Tech has happened

?

What is special about this? What does it have particularly to do with America? People are murdered every day in every country on earth. What evidence does anyone have that this was a shooting spree? The media only directly encourages this sort of overreaction by saying a "shooter stormed" onto campus. Nothing to support any of that.

I wonder why it happens so often at schools / universities.

Why what happens so often in schools? Many more single-target murders occur on the average street or business than in schools.

Any time you see school shooting, you think the worst.

at what point does every school in America have metal detectors?

Incredibly impractical on college campuses. They're too open and if you can't kill people inside a building you can just kill them on their way in or out.

As I work on a campus, I have to admit to be sort of terrified the other day when the campus alarm was tested. I didn't know it was a test, and I admit to not knowing what to do. It was just confusing. It's really sad when these things happen so frequently that there seems little time to grieve, only time to bicker about doing something to fix it, when we all know what will do that.
