Breath of Fire 6 announced for PC/tablet/smartphones

NOOOOOO! SCREW YOU CAPCOM!

We waited 10 @$^&ing years for THIS?!

I HATE YOU, I HATE YOU SO MUCH!

Maybe it's because I'm not a big Breath of Fire fan, but all I can do is laugh at this.

I'm not one to be down on a game simply because of the user interface and the platform. You guys are acting like it's already gonna be some kind of pay-to-win trash. I'd like to see some actual details and gameplay footage first.

And let's be real: a full Breath of Fire sequel was gonna be a 3DS or Vita game at best.

Let's be real: Game is going to be complete garbage like all of the other IOS touchscreen garbage that's been released. The "Online" portion is going to be facebook linking and tweeting;

Why put it on IOS/Touch platforms unless you're going for the casual crowd?

I don't think anybody here would've minded that as long as it was a proper sequel.

Just found out about Breath of Fire 6, and I can't remember the last time I was that excited and happy for a game... but then the dreaded mobile phone game description took all the good and just mercilessly shattered the dream to pieces...

Capcom... not like this...

I think I would even have been okay with BoF6 being PC/iOS/Android if it weren't for the fact that it's going to be another online social "rpg". I hate touchscreen controls but I would give it a try. Can we not have offline games anymore? Is it really too much to ask?

Oh no...

I guess with Japanese devs shifting their attention away from the AAA space, it was inevitable we'd see dormant franchises revived as social games at some point, but a numbered entry feels like a huge slap in the face to fans of the original games.

Fuck, this hurts.

What the fuck.

As a hopefully soon to be iPhone owner, I will take it. At least it's coming to PC but at the same time, the disappointment comes from the seemingly inevitable compromise of this being a touch based online game.

I hope they aren't too incompetent and at least release the game in the west.

Yeah. Even considering the platforms, if it looked and played like a proper installment in the series, I wouldn't be anywhere near as disappointed as I am now. Hell, I would have probably been inclined to give it a try. This just looks like some generic browser RPG with the BoF title slapped onto it. And the fact that they made it a numbered title just puts more salt in the wound.

As a massive BoF fan, I had no desire to make people more upset than they already would be. Not this time.

It'd be one thing if it were some random BoF Mobile game, but the fact they're calling this 6 is what gets me the most.

This is what gets to everyone right now in all honesty, why the hell did they not call it something else...didn't want to see the series revived like this =/

Phones/Tablets seem to be falling in to that dreaded space where people complain that they have no good games but then also complain if a good game is announced for them.

This is easy for me to say, of course, because I don't personally care about this particular game. I'm just not sure I understand the hostility towards tablets/phones. They have clearly proven themselves as viable platforms for games at this point. Hopefully this game does well. *shrug*

You know, news like this should enrage me. The first Breath of Fire in years, and it's an online game for touch devices, and the designs look like some low-rent free-to-play MMO, and they're actually calling it Breath of Fire 6?

But I just feel nothing. I guess this isn't even shocking, just... Capcom, when it comes to disappointing, you don't disappoint. I look forward to the announcement of Rival Schools 3, the iOS collectible card game.

Today is the worst day of my life. After waiting more than 10 years for a new game in the series (as I didn't and still don't like Dragon Quarter), we get a numbered entry as a shitty MOBAGE/Mobile game? FUCK this shit. It's Sonic 4 all over again!!!

I never complained at all. In fact, touch based game can die in a fucking fire and I won't give a damn. Shit simply sucks. =/

God this makes me so sad and angry. I'm not even a Breath of Fire fan, but as a long-time Grandia fan, I can almost feel your pain. :( If they ever did anything like this to the Grandia series (iOS/Android/Browser online touch game with microtransactions), I'd be pretty devastated as well.

If this is how Japanese companies think they can revive a highly-regarded JRPG series, then sod it, I'd rather other dead series remain dead to preserve my own happy memories of them.

Well, this is horribly disappointing. Was excited when someone mentioned BoF6 was announced today.

...Then I remembered Capcom said it was gonna announce a bunch of mobile games that no one likely wanted.

I recently played through Breath of Fire 3. I joked with some friends that the next game will be for phones or tablets, but I thought it was dead. I didn't think it would actually happen!

I blame duckroll and his jinx. ;-; Dammit. I am scared what the other games of those 13 might be now. Ffs Capcom, no shame at all...

Nvm, just saw the other thread, lol.

Priest was made to appease The PentaGod.
The PentaGod is the only one that movie could have appeased, except maybe the Priest comic's author who gave up on the series way before the movie was made. That theory is as good as any other to explain why anyone felt it was a good idea to take a comic so niche and slap its title on something so unrelated and terrible.

And this is why I can't stand phone games. I've been waiting years for them to announce this, but I never expected it to be regulated to a fucking smartphone game :(

I can't fully realise how much this hurts other people. What I mean is I only played Breath of Fire for the first time earlier this year (IV off PSN). I enjoyed it, but I haven't had time to build up such an attachment to the series. Then I imagine the same happening to Chrono, Valkyrie Profile or Skies of Arcadia. That would hurt on a level that almost couldn't be matched in gaming related news.

Capcom really are pretty much running out of anything I care to buy from them, and any pretty much all good will I felt since the PS2/Gamecube generation

You don't understand the problem, it's not the platform where the game is landing (pretty much everyone as a PC and PS3/360 controller can work with it) but the content of said game, it seem to have nothing to do with other BoF and it doesn't even seem to be a classical RPG, why the FUCK it's a mainline instead of a spin-off or a new IP.

I think if games like X-Com had led the charge people would be singing a different tune today.

Not me. I was fine with the Deus Ex iOS game because it looked good and they seemed to put a lot of effort into it. It looked like an actual Deus Ex game, just on mobiles.

This game just looks like they're making a shitty generic browser game and slapped "Breath of Fire 6" in the title.

I imagine these periods are cyclical, they'll come back just like those 'extinct' PC RPGs seem to be coming back these days. You just have to wait for a viable avenue for their return to come about (for cRPGs it was Kickstarter plus digital distribution, for console jRPGs who knows).

Of course you are right ;) i mean people believed adventure games and fighting games are dead lol but hey i like a lil bit of drama its my guilty pleasure :D And its not that everything is bad today we got the Souls games, ni no kuni, Tales is still going strong, torment sequel, Dragons Crown, Atelier and even FF15 looks interesting :)
