Since last week it was Deray McKesson, now they've moved on to King, before it was Wesley Lowrey, next week it will be another activist

Correct. They do this on the regular if you have been paying attention to the more well known names.

This isn't about his race. It's about discrediting him and ultimately keeping him quiet.

ummmm

I'm somewhat familiar with him or I should say familiar with his posts online ...and I always assumed he was white. Or maybe mixed, his profile pic is usually tiny and in b&w.

Unlike Rachel Dolezal I can't recall him ever saying what race he was one way or the other. Maybe he has, maybe he hasn't I don't know.

He has talked about the race of his wife and the race of his children though.

Dude said everything on twitter except yes im black.

Ivd never heard of him before but i hate that shit.

Either say yes or no or dont comment.

If he is white, then what? Black lives don't matter?

It is irrelevant, and no one's business.
His ethnicity doesn't matter in terms of his activism, but I can understand the problem when it comes to him accepting a minority scholarship.

Yep.

People who say they're "colorblind" get full rainbow vision once they see a chance to destroy one of their enemies. Gross.

The only reason I can't bring myself to dismiss this entirely is because he hasn't actually denied it, at least in that long Twitter statement he posted earlier today. He kind of tap danced around it saying he has a big, disjointed family.

Although if I'm being totally honest, I don't trust Shaun King to begin with. Too many complaints about his charities are out there, his Kickstarter complaints and the way he plays fast and loose with the rules when he blogs about things. He usually leaves important things out if it goes against his chosen narrative.

I don't see any issues considering he isn't using his position to enrich himself, regardless of his racial background.

Looks like he got a scholarships for black men.

edit: Maybe not. It's a scholarship for men who attend Morehouse.

I'm not familiar with the movement so it is the first time I saw this guy. Looked for pictures and he looks white to me. But what's the deal? It doesn't matter what color he is.

Fucking sad that the people helping to organize and sustain the movement are being smeared. History repeating itself.

He's a guy that's doing more than nearly everyone shitting on him. What a shame.

he didn't say he was, he said he was known as... could be because of his mixed family and people assumed he was black/mixed and the gang that jumped him did too even though he was actually white.

and the scholarship is not based on race:

That's the school, that's different than the scholarship which comes from Oprah's organisation.

I'm looking around though, and the only thing I can find on the scholarship is that it's available to Morehouse students. It might not be linked to race. I know there are scholarships out there based on race, but this might not be one.

What has Shaun King done to people to deserve this other than want black people to be free?

Like how does seeing someone try to help people be treated as equals motivate others to try to tear them down? I don't fucking understand how the world is still like this in 2015.

I had never seen a good picture of Shaun King, so based on the teensy little thumbnail on Twitter, I assumed he was white.

But looking at a large picture, it's pretty obvious the man is mixed. My own son is mixed, so I have some "anecdotal" background on this. In any case, no one should trust Breitbart and/or Glenn Beck on matters like this. Shaun King is not Rachel Dolezal 2.0.

he's a reverse-hypocrite!

Guy that looks black, identifies as black, and leads an activist group for protecting black lives might have a father who has the same name as a guy who was white.

And the source for all this is some random blog.

...

Like seriously, fuck Breitbart, and fuck the NYDaily News for posting this garbage.

I mean, we know the answer to this question but I'll go ahead and be explicit.

Glenn Beck, Breitbart, and the people who actively support them, are racists.

a source that is only a random blog, and piece of shit racist website. Yep people are going to ride this for a while.

The best part is that white twitter and media laugh off Glenn Beck and Breitbart the other 99% of the time.

yeah that is the sad part

If i wore a tin foil hat I would say this is just a distraction from the current shit in St Louis, if I wore a tin foil hat

I'm confused is a half black man not allowed to get a scholarship for black men he still meets the qualifications as far as I can see.(and the school appears to be fine with it as well)

The accusation is that he is not mixed but white. You misread my reply to you earlier. His mom is definitely white, and a website is stating that his father is also white based on some records.

The website obtained a copy of King's birth certificate, which listed his father as a Jeffery Wayne King. An arrest record, with a mug shot of a Caucasian man, who the site says is the only J Wayne King in the state, seems to link the pair.
Amazing how the possibility of someone moving is too much for Breitbart to grasp.

Cops setting up baton lines in the streets of St Louis county right now and we're busy in deep thought about Shaun King's racial heritage.

"So like, what are you anyway?" asked every white person simultaneously

It's kind of insane that somehow Black Lives Matter is in jeopardy because a leader might be a white dude

Do these people feel betrayed or something?
