While they're at it they need a completely new rendering pipeline because everything about their games looks incredibly behind the times.
Yeah so much of that looks dated. Some devs just need to embrace UE4.

They tried with Mila but you know.

Mila comes across as a worse Vanessa from KOF. Not really the most exciting character.

Now, Vanessa is an amazing character. Secret Agent MILF who punches people, that's the kind of character design I want more of.
latest

Vanessa is what TN wishes they had come up with. I don't know what is it about their designs but I just find them super boring. Nothing about their characters or their clothes is distinctive or interesting.

No one's ever gonna believe me when I say that I like using Marie Rose because of her moveset, but it's 100% true.
Momiji and Hitomi are my girls tho.

Hitomi clicked with me far more than I would've expected a straightforward karate user to, and I'm quite glad that they had Momiji cross over from Ninja Gaiden.
I will say that Mila has been done incredibly dirty by pretty much everyone and it sucks. She should be in Tekken imo, she'd probably be treated better there.
Mila did get the short end of the stick, yeah. Out of all of the brand-new women created specifically for DoA5 (as opposed to the guests, NG crossovers, or another Kasumi clone like Phase-4), each one of them found a devoted following with the exception of her, with Marie Rose, Honoka, and Nyotengu easily managing to eclipse her in popularity. Mila most embodied the original direction that Team Ninja wanted to take with the game with their "I'm a fighter" campaign that was set on scaling back the fanservice in order to focus on presenting a more serious image, but she was more or less rejected along with that aim.

Nioh is a 60fps soulsborne like action game on console don't know why your using that as an example no shit it wouldnt be much of a looker

Koei Tecmo always go for Gameplay > Graphics mainly

If they want to sacrifice alot just to reach stable 60fps on console with UE4 sure do this like SFV, Tekken 7 on console, I guarantee DOA7 will be more of a technical feat for 60fps fighter game on console than those two on consoles

I kinda remember one of the guys from Team Ninja saying DOA5 would not sexualize the girls anymore, when it was first announced. The ads were "I'm a fighter", with the girls covered with dirt and sweat, more realistic looking style wise than the rest of the series. But then, DLC and F2P happened. Am I remembering wrong?

They never said they wouldn't, but that there was an intention to tone it down somewhat. Still, the fans didn't like that, so it ramped up hardcore around the time that DOA 5 Ultimate came out.

DOA5U is when Rachel was introduced to the game, so that automatically makes it the better one.

Not wrong. A vocal portion of fans didn't like it, and things changed. As a result, TN went all out and we got current DOA5 in all its sexualised glory.

I think there are still polarising sets of fans on the issue, but I'd wager most that err on the side of less fanservice have just decided to embrace it for what it is, knowing there is little hope of it changing.

First the base complaining about moving away from the fanservice happened, leading to TN backpedaling on their previous plans, then everything else.

Because it still looks terrible in general. Skin shading, the hair, pretty much every material they use for clothes, props and environments, the lighting, scene density like no their games in general look terrible when it comes to visuals in this day and age. You can have good visuals while maintaining a 60fps framerate.

The pictures with characters are the usual caked in makeup TN women with a doe-eyed face staring into the ether.

She's a giant mish-mash of copy pasted moves but ultimately the results look really cool and she's fun to play, which is what it's all about. DOA5 is ancient though, where the hell is 6.

when they stop raking in hand over fist from DLC costumes they'll consider it

I see that the thread already went to shit after a few posts
with the usual "b-but marie rose" that had nothing to do with the topic
, shame.
Not sure what this even about now tbh.

So like, Dural?

Yeah, she's a Mokujin like character like there's one in several fighting games.

Too bad, I loved the new MMA girl (Mila?), nice design and a step forward in comparison to the other dolls with same face/body.
They made the best decision business wise, tho. I would love to know the numbers they made with these costume DLC!

Tbh I actually really love the "remix of all the other characters" trope in fighting games. Seth was fun as fuck to play. So was Ogre in Tekken. And Elizabeth in P4A. I don't play DOA but Honoka is probably really fun too.

Somewhat of a spoiler but who cares about DOA's story, isn't it hinted she is related to Raidou? She is his tag team partner in DOA5LR. Raidou is a boss from DOA1 who stole people's moves, like that kamehameha from the ninjas. I think she is actually one of his bastard children and takes after him (the other kid being Ayane). So that's the excuse she copies stuff. She also stole copy and pasted Marie Rose's face.

That is what's hinted, yes (along with the same red energy that she uses for techniques specific to her).

You can avoid almost all of the fan service in DOA 5 if you so choose. Like almost all of the DLC costumes you won't even see unless you have compatibility packs downloaded. You can disable boob jiggle entirely. Its the most flexible entry in the series in terms of how far down that rabbit hole you want or don't want to go.

She's a terrible character, but I would take a thousand Honokas over a Marie Rose
I don't think she's terrible but I'm not too fond of her. I'm definitely in agreement with your "rather have Honoka in the game than Marie Rose" sentiment though.
Mila and Rig were great additions to the roster, Rig less so than Mila because of his lack of personality but his moveset was good and he looked cool enough. Seems TN ran out of good ideas after adding them though. At least the Ninja Gaiden series and SNK were able to loan some characters to the game, so I can't really say that all content post-Vanilla was garbage.

I see the no fun allowed crew has graced another thread

There is no room for female fanservice no matter how niche the game is

Usually happens whenever someone brings up Marie Rose.

Which is hilarious to me since for a long time Kasumi was 16 (underage) back when the first DOA Extreme Beach Volley ball games came out. But nobody likes to talk about that I guess. They'ed rather take umbrage with a character design they don't like and brand people as pedos if they don't agree.

Marie Rose isn't the first time the dead or alive series has come under fire.

The heck are you on about? People absolutely talked about and condemned that.

Shit's still creepy AF

My feeling is that this was the fight that needed to happen back with DOA2. Five iterations in, it's impossible to imagine a DOA that isn't ridiculously pervy.

Personally, while I would prefer mainstream games not assume an entirely horny straight male audience, I do feel there is a place for games like DOA as well, and don't mind them continuing with the dumb over the top fanservice.

I know, I'ed just like people to keep things into perspective when it comes to her. At least she was 18 form the get go.
Yes but she still has the mannerisms and has the face of a child. Itagaki is one of the creepiest developers in this industry. Dude's last game literally had a character who due to genetic experiments, can't age past the age of 16.

It's weird since the DoA series has come under critique quite often for their portrayals.
Yea it's not like this is a new thing.
*looks at gifs*

She wasn't?
Straight up has a side ponytail lmfao.

Didn't they actively remove Kasumi's age from releases of the games outside of Japan for exactly this reason? Not to mention that Kasumi and Marie Rose's designs don't exactly match their given ages.

When people make the "thousand year old dragon" joke, they're making fun of the same thing that's being one with Marie Rose. You have give whatever number you want; people look at the design and know what it's going for.

That's fair, but this is still worse:
DeXa6Pm.jpg

She's OBVIOUSLY 18. Clearly.

Are you being sarcastic or are you just that desperate to defend how creepy this is?
I'm not going to comment on her physically because honestly I'm a terrible judge of age and it being a virtual character just adds an extra layer of confusion, but 18 is stretching disbelief and she's clearly dressed in something I can't imagine seeing someone even close to 18 wearing.

Almost 100% sure they're joking. The character's age is listed as 18 to cover Tecmo Koei's ass.

I thought the sarcasm was pretty obvious
