Bubble Bobble Plus! (WiiWare)

Bubble Bobble NES is one of my 3 favorite games, so I hope this is even somewhat as good as the original. Unfortunately, even that bar is pretty high considering the quality of recent BB releases.

"Simple" isn't a term I'd use for Bubble Bobble, really. Yeah, it's two buttons and all that, but between the ridiculous scoring elements and the huge number of stages to handle, it's pretty complex and challenging.

Thats exactly why its one of my favorite games of all time. I tell people about the different counters that make up when and how power ups appear, and they just look at me funny and pat pat me gently =\

That's Puzzle Bobble. And I expect it'll make it over too, Taito USA's pretty DS happy lately.

This is SO mine, when it comes out over here. Or on the other hand...maybe I could use AnyRegionChanger before I update...

Wi-fi gameplay that uses the mic could make this one a keeper.

Oh wow, this is awesome news. It looks like it has the classic game in there too, based on the screenshots on Famitsu.

The only problem for me is, I just sold my Wii. Please Taito, bring this out on XBLA.

If not already mentioned, here are the developers of the following BB games:

Bubble Bobble Evolution (PSP): Marvelous. Specifically the Marucome team which do the Harvest Moon and River King games.

Bubble Bobble Revolution and Double Shot (Both DS): Dreams. Who also developed Rainbow Pop for the Wii.

Bust a Move Wii & Bust a Move DS (NA named): Happy Happening. Who also developed that Wild Wild West game for DS.

Who did Taito get help with to develop the recent games like SI Extreme and Kage 2?

Opus developed Bubble Bobble Evolution.

Lancarse (of Etrian Odyssey fame) developed Legend of Kage 2. They also did Cameltry DS, Puzzle Bobble Pocket, the original Puzzle Bobble DS (not the touch based one that Majesco contracted to Happy Happening) and just recently Space Puzzle Bobble.

The DS Space Invaders Extreme was the only version Taito did inhouse. Gulti did the PSP port and Backbone (ugh) is doing the XBLA/PSN versions. Also, Moss did Exit DS, Pegasus did the XBLA port while Taito did the PSP originals inhouse.

I hope this will be good but...

...I find extremely depressing that almost nobody in the industry gave a fuck about the recent death of Fukio Mitsugi, game designer of the original Bubble Bobble (and also Rainbow Islands). RIP MTJ.

D: Didn't know. Here's to the designer of one of the most classic games from the golden age. *cheers*

It happened in december, but I discovered the sad news only in january. Not a single mention on IGN, Gamespot and the other major sites. Just a quick, unconfirmed note on 1up IIRC, and a few mentions on some true gamers' blogs.

I really liked this post. I actually spent a night with a friend of mine playing through ALL the 200 levels of Bubble Bobble on the Master System. My avatar speaks for me, but Bubble Bobble was THE game who started my passion for gaming.

Even then Taito's internal development talent is in credibly small in number and their designers usually work with other studios like Sarugakucho or Garakuta. Actually I've been wondering, do they own Garakuta?

Yup, thanks for the heads up. 2 of my favorite arcade games, easily. They don't make them like they used to. /salute

...Is that so?

Wow, I'm really sorry to hear that. Some one who designed some of the best games of all time deserves better, certainly.

Oh wow. :(
Rest in peace, Fukio Mitsugi. Thank you for your wonderful games.

Also, obligatory lol gaming journalism.

This makes me sad. He gave me many untold hours, days and years of memories.

Now I can't get the soundtrack out of my head!

Can't wait for this. I imagine about half my time on the NES was spent with Bubble Bobble. Loved that game so much.

Wow. :( That makes me sad. Bubble Bobble was my first and favourite game as a kid and I still play and enjoy it today. It's hard to describe, but for me the game conveys a sense of freedom that few other games did at the time and even today.

R.I.P., and thank you.

There were other developers listed in the game's credits, weren't there? One for the music, but I thought the other did the game in co-operation with Taito?

Didn't we know this already like two weeks ago from the Famitus news thread?
Am I imagining things?

There was also a Rainbow Islands Wii mentioned.

First reaction to the screenshot: Graphics look kind of meh
Second reaction: OH SHIT IS THAT 4 PLAYERS

search for the scans around, that is just a super-shitty compressed screenshot.
Seriously, that must be the worst screenoshot I've seen short of this decade :lol

Puzzle Bubble.
But it's not like it's going to keep the support for the paddle, paddle will be Japan only like with Arkanoid and Space Invaders Extreme, so...

Holy shit 400 stages?!

I can barely hit 30 in the arcade version (no continues).

...I want this. Bub and Bob <3

Was the paddle support really taken out of the Localizations?

Awesome avatar man.

After looking at the famitsu article, I'm left thinking, "Hey, it looks like you can add wii points for DLC map packs from directly in the game."

Wait, DLC map packs?! Ohhhhhhh myyyyyyy car.

What ? You can use the paddle extension with Puzzle Bobble on DS ? So sold if it's coming to Europe... Edit : actually, I'll import, region free DS FTW.

Very good news for BB on Wiiware.

Yes?
Space Invaders Extreme US doesn't work with it.

I have the US version of SIE for DS and a Japanese paddle, and they work together.

The paddle works for the US version of Arkanoid DS too.

Garakuta is made up of Taito staff, and I don't think they exist as a unit anymore. The same people made Lost Magic on DS, but weren't credited as "Garakuta Studio".

The music was by Zuntata, which is Taito's inhouse sound team. Taito did the core development though (Project something?). Now that I think about it Sarugakucho was involved too, but core development was done inhouse (unlike the PSP or downloadable versions).

Only on the newest version (so not Puzzle Bobble DS or the localized Hippatte! Puzzle Bobble). All Taito's paddle compatible games are...

-Space Invaders Extreme
-Arkanoid DS
-Space Puzzle Bobble
-Space Invaders Extreme 2

Like the other poster said, it is Space Puzzle Bobble that has the paddle support, and I don't think it is in English (though I'm sure you can figure out the menus, I have never had an import arcade game where I couldn't).
