Bungie ends development on Destiny 2

Even if they shutter Bungie, Sony would need to keep Destiny servers going in some fashion for a few years at least, the PR backlash from completely shutting it down would be a disaster.
PR or whatever will never be good enough compared to their bottom line. The only way we can be sure they're willing to do right by destiny players, apart from reviving the game, is if they make an offline mode of sorts, anything else is cope.

You can't make an offline version of Destiny. The game is P2P, they have kept D1 running with minimal players for years, no reason why they wouldn't do the same for D2.

They had a very successful D2 to keep bungie afloat and happy. Now they have... Marathon, and Sony breathing down their neck.

Loaded gun. Pointed to the head. The only thing you can depend on as a guarantee it'll keep working is bungies whims (or sony's if they get sacked), unlike if there was an offline mode. I'll let D2 players judge how much thats worth.

Not sure we are talking about the same thing. I am saying if Bungie gets gutted or shuttered then It would be a PR disaster for Sony not to keep the D2 servers on so it is playable. Sony owns Destiny, not Bungie.

Like I said you can't make an offline version if the game, unless you fancy playing crucible or attempting a raid sol0 or driving around an empty patrol space.

Sony has even less reasons to keep it running, like i said, PR or whatever means very little for them here. They've shut down online games in the past, they closed down beloved studios without sparing any condolences, they are more than willing to shut down a dead live service game that brings them nothing.

Destiny still has a pretty decent amount of MAU. Its far from dead. And please don't post a steam CCU chart.

One that'll slowly fade out with no more expansions of updates, not to mention we're talking about a f2p game. The amount of people wiling to invest money on an unsupported live service will also not be very big.

Quick AI says theres between 1-2 million monthly active Destiny players before this update.

My point was if they gut Bungie tomorrow then D2 would still be around as it has decent amount of players and Sony would be foolish to piss off so many customers. Active development is stopping as the base doesn't support it, but the base does support keeping the lights on, for now.
