Bungie's Next Project - 'New Halo 3 Campaign Experience'

So, at the moment I'm guessing that we have a game set during the events of Halo 2, namely right after the covenant ship enters hyperspace (or whatever its called) which causes the gigantic flashbang and widespread devastation in the city. You play as an ODST dropped in to clear up the mess and the remaining Covenant forces that remain.

Meanwhile, the cities AI program seems to be suffering from the massive EMP-type blast and looks to have gone a little kooky. I'm guessing that this character assumes a Cortana-esque role and guides you through the city.

On the right track or am I way off course here? I've no idea. :s

Sounds about right to me.

Would have been excited for a new ODST game, where they could have gone for a different look and tried to capture the difference in perspective between a trooper and the chief.

But as an expansion I'm seriously worried it's just going to be the same experience with a weaker playable character (which in itself isn't bad, but it's not very exciting. I don't play Halo thinking "It would be so cool if I didn't have shields and melee attacks did less damage").

I'm of the opinion that an AI hit with an EMP (or other debilitating incident) would be more likely to act as a hindrance. If it still retains control over elements of city maintenance etc. then it could be a case of fighting both it and <enemy types unknown>.

I guess this means we'll be fighting against Elites again...huh.

Colour me impressed, I'm glad Bungie are doing a Campaign expansion, I've dreamt of since Halo 2.

Awesome. Just got back from class after watching the countdown on my iPod Touch. What a sweet trailer. Wish it was longer but hey, what can you do. :lol

So Cortana + GlaDOS?

Elites and Brutes, yeah.

I see what you mean, but I wonder if this Superintendent character, although assuming the Cortana role, will behave more like the monitors from the Halo installations (ie. slightly wacky, kooky and a few sandwiches short of a picnic)

It could be that you're not only fighting Covenant, but also local city protection droids (ED-209 comeback confirmed!). But then it could be that the SI is just there for some comic relief.... I guess we'll see.

Well, it seems to be pretty strong confirmation of an ODST game, which has me excited. I just wish we had a little more info to go on.

Is it 'Halo 3' because it's set in the same time frame, yet still a completely new game, or is it 'Halo 3' because it's an expansion pack?

And if it's an expansion, that probably means FPS, correct? I personally was/am kind of hoping for a 3rd person shooter...

And if it's a Halo 3 FPS expansion featuring ODSTs, will they substantially change the gameplay to fit the mythology (no recharging shields, significantly less damaging melee, inability to jump 10 feet in the air, etc.).

Last thought: since the emphasis would seem to be on squads and if it's an 'expansion' and not a 'complete' title -- maybe it will be co-op centric. Something along the lines of the separate Resistance 2 co-op campaign.

I just hope they do a better job with the story presentation in this new expansion or whatever it ends up being. I always cry about what Halo 3 could have been.

I see why Mattrick axed this shit from E3 :lol

Actually, I disagree.

As a trailer in a larger presentation at E3, I think this may have gone over a lot better. After all, that's the sort of stuff we're accustomed to seeing at E3 these days. Sort of a 'more details to come soon' (being a teaser, and all) type of thing.

Released like this with the drama and the countdown and all, it's a tad anticlimactic.

what about the canceled bungie press event 2 days after the ms e3 pk?
and what about the podcast they hold back?

more infos bungie, please.

Just got back from class. So if I'm understanding this correctly, this is basically Crysis: Warhead but with Halo 3?

Okay. Just got home from school; finally saw it. I'm pretty sure that the "Prepare to Drop" part does not mean Bungie is dropping their support for Halo 3. It's probably a reference to the ODSTs in some manner.

Awesome. Can't wait.

This is exactly where I'm at with this.
I loved the trailer. I want to know more.
But ultimately, your post sums up my thoughts. MS got in its own way.

Absolutely, I did.
I thought the Arbiter made halo 2, but I am in the minority here.

video is on MP.

So what the fuck is this? (Saw the video)

An expansion pack is that it? Wow, underwhelmaton. And lol at degrading the Halo franchise with expansion packs.

*shakes head*

Good point -- Bungie was prepared to give out a lot more info right after the initially planned tease. Hopefully, we'll get those details soon.

I'm trying to rise above the increasing number of posts like this, but my patience is fading.

Hmm... New Halo Experience to go along with the new X-Box experience. I wonder if they are going to bundle Halo 3 with 360's this holiday and give us the extra content for free?

Minus the ending and a few points other parts, yes, I thought the story was presented better then Halo 3. It had everything from character development (Arbiter) to a clear presentation of your goal (clearly showing who the bad guys are and why you're fighting them). Plus, it didn't feel like it was a bunch of small stories thrown together, like Halo 3.

I agree.

I hate the New Mombassa setting though. Always have. Give me Forerunner or give me death!

I really, really like the graphical style in the trailer. But knowing it's a Halo 3 expansion means I wont be getting that in the game. :(

Sure you will, with a bit of aliasing is all. Halo 3 is one of the most beautiful engines out there right now.

Yeah, MS loves giving out free content. Especially free halo stuff.

It's true though.

A franchise like Halo, each game it puts out should be an event. Putting out expansion packs? That's just lame.

But try me though, don't rise above, this is a gaming forum meant for discussion. So if you have something to discuss.

Rising above discussion seems to render the forum existence mute no?

i agree with you. the storytelling in h3 is a disaster.

I'm in. I've always enjoyed halo's single/co-op player. Multiplayer is not my thing, but i'll be there day one for some new campaign levels.

I'm with this. I've kinda dropped Halo 3 multi about 8 months ago and with all the great Holiday games coming up I'm not about to sink time and money into a multiplayer game that I've already played for 70-80 odd hours. However I love playing campaign on co-op and I can and will pay boku cash for more of what I love.

I'd like more details but as of now this announcement is still good stuff for me.

Yeah, well, I'm trying to put a positive spin on this. I mean, months of build up for a teaser trailer... that's just lame. I'm a big fan of Bungie, and I know that they got screwed by M-Soft at E3, but if they had to wait to show something, they could have waited until they could show us more than a teaser video.

Maybe Bungie are going to experiment with a couple new ideas/gameplay mechanics and would rather test these out in an expansion pack, and see how the public likes them first, before chucking them into a game?

That's Bungies plan. A final fuck you to MS. Shit with all the halo teams/games being made, it's bound to confuse people eventually. Than Bungie will come in and clean the shit up with a new IP.

Ala Half Life 2, disagree in total.

While I can see where you are coming from, I think many Halo fans would be interested in playing a new part of the series without having to wait another 3 years or so.
