Burnout Paradise (next gens): first HD teaser!

This looks...pretty disappointing to be honest, open world or not.

This game being a Burnout game, despite visuals, will automatically make it better than 95% of all other racing games.

How can that be when the Burnout games barely qualify as racing games? Crash 'em ups is more like it, god knows the actual racing in this franchise is worthless.

Bring back the physics from Burnout 2. There was some drive in that game and far less floaty slippery drift garbage. You actually had to corner in Burnout 2. The whole series has been dumbed down to a hold the accelerator and press left and right slightly game.

Test Drive Unlimited makes for a better Burnout game right now even though it doesn't have user car damage.

I've never played any of the Burnout games, but I'd like to. Which of the PS2 games is the best?
You won't get a straight answer, unfortunately.

There is a lot of love for Burnout 2...but I found it to be quite boring. Burnout Revenge was the most exciting of the bunch and I recommend it. It really isn't a driving game, when you get right down to it, but it is fun as hell.

Revenge IMO, is the best. Burnout 3 is great also. Burnout 2 is a fanastic pure arcade racer, but it's not nearly as over the top awesome as Burnout 3, and Revenge.

In other words, all three are excellent games in their own right, but I think Revenge is the best game overall.

It a shame Burnout ALWAYS loses out in sales to the VASTLY inferior NFS series.I also passed on Burnout Revenge 360, it was just a BOTCHA that I couldn't play my Xbox version on the 360. I hope they keep in the shortcuts and go back to the burnout 3 crash junctions.

100% agree

revenge > burnout 3 > burnout 2 > burnout dominator >>> burnout 1

If this has the traffic checking from Burnout Revenge I'm officially done with the franchise. The racing become so bloody boring when they added that.

Make it a side bonus mode like crash mode, but keep it out of the actual races.

Agreed 100%.

After playing Burnout 3 for 600hrs + online (PS2 ver!) i was totally disapointed with revenge, biggest pos game i have ever played. They totally killed the franchise for me. I really hope it isnt in Burnout Paradise, or its emo time.

Traffic checking was a welcome addition IMO. It eliminated the monotony of online races in Burnout 3, where the outcome basically hinged on how often you could avoid traffic.

"Oh, I've been in first place for over 6 minutes, but someone's been right on my tail this whole time! Better not cra... *swipes the rear end of a random car moving through the intersection* ... F%&*! Well that was a waste of time."

I could live without the checked cars going airborne Looney Tunes-style, though.

Disappointing visuals.

Looks like Burnout Revenge 360 just with way too much bloom. Everything looks white and washed out.

BlimBlim, the MP4 is extremely choppy and sound is sketchy on my PS3 and PC. Anyone else have the same issues?

THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE GAME. DRIVING REALLY REALLY FAST AND NOT HITTING ANYTHING.

Traffic checking would be fine as a mini game (like the ones in Revenge where you had to check a certain amount with a time period). As an addition to the main game it just made it less about skillful driving at insane speeds.

I think it looks good but maybe not quite what I expect from a next gen Criterion game. The teaser did it's job though and I bet the high speed crashes are ****ing spectacular :D

So is traffic checking in or not?

Because that's what ruined Burnout Revenge.
It wasn't in Burnout Dominator, not that that's a guarantee of anything.

I'm sorry but as much as the EA burnout team swings from Sony's nuts and brags about the PS3 being the primary platofrm this game looks mediocro at best.

Where are the motostorm quality visuals?

edit: and no I could care a less about Aliasing thats no somthing that bothers me one bit in games.

funny and not true

motorstorm is a whole other type of game, its not as fast as burnout and burnout isnt in the canyons, thats not a fair example, if you compare it with next gen NFS games im sure itll look better.

umm it's an open world game, there aren't any tracks in the game, just one big city. Kinda like Need For Speed Underground 2

Some people can't grasp that concept. It's real easy to make graphics look pretty when you have a linear track.

no please, get started on the crash junctions.
Sorry, I forgot about this thread till just now.

The Crash Junctions in BO2 were good, I thoroughly enjoyed them, but the addition of aftertouch and icons in BO3 really took the skill away from it. Im still not keen on aftertouch but you are forced to use it to progress in the game, racing and junctions.

I agree the AI was pretty dumb in BO2, but the actual locations felt like you were illegally racing in a city. Its sort of hard to explain, but since BO3 its felt like the cities have been built around the tracks, it also feels more like Wipeout on rails in a majority of places. As said before by someone else, you had more control and had to actually steer the cars. Its not like you slam into a rail on a corner and just ride the rail pushing the AI infront of you into a crash. BO2 on the other hand, it was all about out driving your opponent, whether it was AI or a mate in splitscreen. Now its about slamming into the opposition as hard as you can. I preferred the old way, rubbing neck and neck, moving apart to avoid an oncoming vehicle and merging again to continue rubbing.

I bought BO3 on release day but I sold it about a week or so later, it left a bitter taste in my mouth. BO:R I enjoyed even if it was because I bought it for less than half price, but the traffics checking and preview laps needed to go.

Fingers crossed Burnout Paradise delivers but at thispoint it is hard to see how well it will actually work.

BO2 on the other hand, it was all about out driving your opponent, whether it was AI or a mate in splitscreen.
See, in most cases, I could easily overtake the AI and spend the rest of the race driving alone in front of them. That was compounded by...

but the actual locations felt like you were illegally racing in a city
...the incredibly boring track design. I found most of the tracks to be dreadfully dull. Driving around the overly lengthy and boring tracks with no opponents in sight simply wasn't fun.

BO3 and Revenge may not be racing games in the traditional sense, but they ARE exciting and keep you on your toes. I simply could never get into the older Burnout titles.

Music from BO2 (dynamic music) + crash junctions from BO2 + racing gameplay from BO3 + production value from BO4 + Boost mechanics from Dominator (mix of BO2 and BO3 boost) would make a perfect Burnout Paradise.

It would be nice if they move away from typical EA Trax, I must admit.

What would have been cool for Paradise is a high quality soundtrack design specifically for the game (someone like Brian Transeau would have been an awesome choice especially considering his fantastic 5.1 mixes).

I'd like to habe Burnout 5 as a mix of 3 anf 4. I didnt play the first ones, but 3 and four both had their advantages. I hate that shitty crash junction-thing in 4. Its far better in 3, its simple but it's fun, and I play because of fun ;)
I dont know, if I liked the fact, that you could push away vehicles coming from the opposit direction, but it sure didnt made my nerves suffer as they did in burnout 3, when i crashed into some vehicle 2 metres in front of the finish.
In Artstyle of the Courses they should use a mix. The nice, sunny Courses of B3 and some more dark courses like the B4 ones.

I really think traffic checking worked out well in the end. It's a neat layer of complexity that still manages to reward skilled driving (driving on the wrong side of the road).

I'm rather fond of the artstyle we've been shown in the teaser, however. The blue hue used to paint this world is quite different from the previous games. I wouldn't mind seeing dramatic palette shifts as the sun sets, however...

If you found load-screens exciting (at least on PS2, I don't know how other versions fared).

ähem, revenge had the shortest load times from the last bunch (3, dominator, revenge)?

I wish it was more useful against human opponents though and that the civilian cars weren't that floaty when you hit them (i.e., launching into the air). In the single player you could eliminate other racers pretty easily with traffic checking, but I don't think that was even possible online. Other than that, I agree with you.

That said, I enjoyed Revenge just as much as Burnout 2. Burnout 3 disappointed me for various reasons, though it did have a good online multiplayer.

Motorstorm has the "luxury" of running at half the framerate thus PS3 has twice as much time to draw more complex graphics in that game, compared to Burnout 5.

that said, I think Burnout will be a prettier game overall. the graphics might not be the most spectacular ever seen, but they look really nice IMO. I wanna see more vids :D
