Bustin’ Makes Me Feel Good – The Official Ghostbusters: The Video Game Thread

kinda bummed its a 10hour game

oh well

I'd say if you play on Normal, it's closer to 6 hours.

However, it's a great 6 hour ride, and that's about the normal length for games of this nature.

Wondering this myself. Is there both online and offline co-op?
wii has offline split screen co-op through the campaign and no online. 360 has no split screen offline co-op at all, and the online co-op is more along the lines of Gears of War 2's Horde mode.

PC REPORTEDLY HAS NEITHER.

Thanks for the info.
No online campaign co-op for HD versions? :(

I just got a prerecorded call from Dan Akroyd saying that my preorder from gamestop is available for pickup tomorrow. I actually canceled that preorder but got so giddy hearing the message! I tried to record it but couldn't figure out how to do it in time, wish I woulda let voicemail pick it up :*(

You poor thing. Named after a hotdog!

:lol

The 'great lines that Bill Murray has' to 'how good the film is overall' ratio in Ghostbusters 2 is so totally out of whack...

I hope someone can YouTube it.

That's a great marketing idea.

Damn, now I'm really torn... After seeing this, the difference in visual quality just seems significant:

I was all set to switch my preorder at Gamestop till I found out my brother's copy already shipped from Amazon.

Do I switch and go with visual quality or stick with it and have the option of the co-op online mode with my brother? Probably will end up sticking with the PS3 version; wish I had never seen that comparison.

or you could wait for a reputable source to do a comparison before rushing to judgment

As far as robot calls go, it was really cool. However, nothing beats having Sam Jackson call me a pothead gaming addict, and tell me to go see snake's on a plane.

I didn't trust the video, but the screengrab comparison when you do the rollover seems pretty convincing to me.

If there's a good explaination of how this isn't legit, I'm all ears but it looks convincing to me.

LMAO hahaha yeah. "MOTHERFUCKING SNAKES ON A PLANE MIGHT be the best movie you ever see!" I laughed so hard!

Also I heard from a friend that Viacom is pulling all Ghostbuster game reviews from youtube... WTF VIACOM!!!!

Wow, PS3 version looks
like shit
blurry, if this is true, of course, no way it was lead.

Of course it's legit, you guys watched the Lens of Truth video. Both of those were streamed/captured source. PS3 textures are indeed half-res.

I didn't trust a dark video which was hard to see and commentary from people who I don't know what their technical knowledge or background was. Seeing side by side screen caps is pretty convincing to me though.

"I was really disappointed in the outcome of this Head2Head. There is no reason that the PlayStation 3 version should have looked this bad. I love my PlayStation 3 and so does the rest of the guys at the Lens of Truth. We’re really baffled by what happened here because I, like many others, were under the impression the game was developed on the PlayStation 3. Why were we under this impression? Because of this little interview that VG247 had with the president of Terminal Reality, Mark Randel. Here is a snippet:

MR : Personally, I want to show off our PS3 technology. We’re one of the few developers who love the PS3 and have a great time with it. We have great technology for the PS3 and we want to show it off.

VG247: Isn’t it the same for the 360?

MR: We’re running the same game for both platforms but if we made a PS3-only game, for example, you could double the amount of objects on screen that you’re seeing. The PlayStation 3 has seven processors and the 360 only has three, so seven versus three means you can do a lot more on the PS3. We’re keeping the game the same over both platforms so we don’t want to take out any features.

VG247: So is the game scaled down because of the limitations of the 360?

MR : For example, we’ve reserved one whole processor on the PS3 for Dolby Digital 5.1 sound whereas on the 360 you have part of one processor to do that. So we can have a lot better sound mixing and a lot more effects going on at the same time. That kinds of makes us do a little bit less in the game [360] but makes for better audio. If we’re doing a PS3 only game however, we could be doing a lot more. We could be pushing a lot more on the screen.

So what happened? For pete’s sake, Sony owns Paramount! Like I said a million times before, Sony needs to step up to these developers. How does EA do it? Fight Night Round 4 was almost identical and there’s no reason why GhostBusters couldn’t have been. Whatever the case, I liked to think we did a good deed playing the game almost a week before the release date. At least I know I would be pissed if I dropped $60 on the PlayStation 3 version and not the Xbox 360. Now if you only own a PlayStation 3 then don’t read this article because it’s still a good game and you’ll have fun with it regardless; but for those who own both systems the winning choice is obvious."

Interesting, I didnt see it while glossing over, but the ps3 version looks quite a bit.. washed out?

The comparison crap, that happens with every game that is multiplatform, is seriously killing my happiness for this Ghostbusters game and ruining a very fond childhood memory. I hate the things that have come to light right on the eve of the game's release. Despicable.

All I want to do is play the best version and have the best experience. It's supposed to be one of the advantages of being platform neutral. It's too bad you get cursed with trying to figure out which one that is.

Honestly even if the PS3 version indeed has those problems. The core game is the same and its a blast. Don't let you hope...or fun die! Call the GHOSTBUSTERS!:lol

I just don't agree that these kind of things should be discussed in official threads. It ruins the hype of a game 100% because people never let it go and you get a thread with pages full of comparison pictures and then quoting the pictures... what a downer.

As a multiplatform owner, I *absolutely* appreciate having this knowledge come to light in the official threads. Where the hell else should I look for it?

If it's such a downer to you, buy whatever systems you're missing so you can enjoy the best gaming has to offer, without worry.

Why's that?

I just saw some videos of the game and it looks pretty good.

I've heard it just doesn't compare. Not terrible, but not good.

I agree. It's not something GAF members should be criticized for, blame the developers for not putting sufficient effort into each version. If all developers would take the time to make a game the same quality on every sku it's releasing on, we wouldn't have to talk about it.

I doubt the PS3 version looks anything like as blurry in-game, something would have been mentioned already - I suspect that has something to do with the way the shots were captured.

That said, the missing effects are very disappointing - I'll have to go PS3 as I want it on release-day (PAL gamer) but I'll be trading it in for the US 360 version ASAP.

Why shouldn't this be discussed? I'm a multiplatform owner and this is very important information that will determine which platform I purhcase the game on. It absolutely should be discussed in the official thread.

Perhaps the PS3 version looks like it has softer edges and lower res textures because they could possibly be using Quincunx AA?

If those pictures are accurate, it's pretty ridiculous. Multiplatform games have been close to identical for the most part for some time now. There really is no excuse.

wait.. i thought the devs said it was 10hour atleast campain? I do believe the OXM review said it too.

so its 6hours now? ugh
