• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Buying an Xbox One now?

Yes, maybe not at launch, but we'll see how it goes. I'm really interested in a lot of the titles shown at E3(mainly Killer Instinct and Sunset Overdrive) but I most likely wouldn't have bought one with the DRM and always online.

Kinda shitty they had this in the first place though.

No.
  • They started with Evil Intent from the beginning and only buckled due to pre-order discrepancies vs. the PS4's
  • They still require Kinect mandatory.
  • It's still $100 more.
  • It does not come with a headset

$100 is a lot of money, Titanfall looks great and all...But I think I'll stick with the PS4.

And PS+ is a better deal compared to XBL.

I may not get one at launch, and the PS4 will likely still be my main console next gen, but yeah I will buy it now that they've dropped their stupid policies.

im glad they dropped drm but

$500
weaker hardware
large box
kinect style motion control doesn't seem compelling
doesnt have sony first party
the ps4 controller has been getting great reviews and i think i like the additional functionality
ps plus is cheaper and seemingly better than the current live.

so im going to stick with the ps4.

Observe the Truthfacts spilling from Coolio's perfectly symmetrical head.

It is a great victory for consumers, no doubt. But it is not a great victory for MS's value proposition IMO.

I could, but I probably won't. $100 extra, not enough compelling games, most of what I WOULD want to play is coming to PC or PS4 anyways. Not sure I care much about Kinect but it is a little bit creepy. Wonder if Microsoft will somehow sneak some anti-consumer stuff in anyways.

But yeah, price, games and a general sense that I really don't NEED to buy both an Xbox One and a PS4 at launch, and I've already made my decision.

Christ no.

They have been acting like a right pair of wankers over the past few months. The statements they've made and stances taken has just left me sour and baffled. Even besides that, I don't want to pay $100 for a weaker console -- I'm not daft.

Preordered on Day 1 just in case they did what they just did (switch up). I'll probably keep my preorder and buy it even though I know 500 is a bit too much. My girlfriend is getting me a console for my birthday, Ill probably ask her to get me the X1 and Ill buy the PS4. I love my games too much to part with either and Ryse looked good to me.

No, at least not now.

Got a PS4 pre ordered, have my Wii U and both actual Handhelds.

But after the changes, there now is a chance that i might get one in a few years. Before the DRM pull it was a strict no.

I pre-ordered one at Gamestop on the first day...just in case. (Also pre-ordered a PS4 at 4 different places).

Before, I was 75% sure I was going to return or re-sell the Bone. Now I'm 60% sure I'll keep it.

i'm not that fickle to so quickly side with a company because they scooped a bit of shit off the giant dump they took on my chest

No. Never.

This is not a move for the consumer, this is a move to save face and shows a total lack of confidence in their product.

They've already shown their colors.

this whole thing has really turned me off of microsoft. there's absolutely no way i am buying the xbox one near launch, but i am a gamer, so i will definitely follow it and see how everything turns out. if it can be picked up in a year or two at a cheaper price with some great exclusive games, i will consider it. it will never be my lead platform though.

After this news, I put in an Amazon pre-order. I don't know if I'll be buying both systems, but with Microsoft's complete reversal on all of those nasty policies, it's at least a possibility now.

This definitely changes things for me. Right now I'm 60% PS4 40% Xbox one (Used to be 95% PS4 5% Xbox One). After the console is out could they go back to their shitty policies? I also want more info on the Kinect.

Why buy an Xbone when you can buy a PS4?

- PS4 is $100 cheaper
- PS4 is more powerful
- PS4 has indies on board
- PS4 doesnt have a camera on your face 24/7
- PS4 isnt ran by Don Matrick

I'm happy about today's news, but I will not buy it day one, maybe 1-2 years later.

- Mandatory Kinect
- Weaker hardware than PS4
- 500 €

I was planning on getting one "eventually," but it looks like I'm gonna get one sooner, and not feel bad about it. Gotta collect all o' them consoles.

Can't wait for Killer Instinct.

No. Because MS also had to eliminate their best feature (family share plan). It was a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. But to be fair, MS put themselves in this position. If Xbox One didn't force kinect, and wasn't $100 more, and didn't have weaker specs, then Xbox One would still be appealing even without the family share plan. But with the family share plan, you had to deal with terrible DRM.

Nah. I already pre-ordered a PS4. Especially after the news that happened last week.

Though at the very least, now I know I can pick one up in the future without feeling guilty. I just don't feel like spending an additional $499 at launch. We shall see when the price drops.

Not for $499, no. But one day, I'm definitely going to get one used!

Probably not buying anything until the games I'm really interested in will be out anyways, early next year. And, well, Sony deserves my dollar at first.

Fuck no. Microsoft are the abusive boyfriend showing up at your front door with tears in his eyes and flowers in his hand, telling you he's changed. Shut the fucking door and walk away.

I'll buy one because I love region-free and that move....but absolutely not until a massive price drop. 500€ is a bit too much.

I'll buy a PS4 in the launch window or something, mainly because I like the Playstation brand better than the Xbox brand.

The announcement has moved me from "won't buy on principle" to "will buy eventually when the library has developed and the price drops" or basically where Sony was last generation and Nintendo has been since the N64.

No.

Still more expensive and less powerful than PS4. Still has Kinect (no mention of that no longer being required?)

Definitely don't trust them after this, even if they flip-flopped.
