Call of Duty: Ghosts online multiplayer discussion thread

Played domination on Christmas Eve and while getting clobbered I noticed my team wasn't bothering to capture the objectives. Seems most players are only concerned about k/d ratios.

Also pumped about 5-6 bullets into a guy charging me with knives, who then killed me.

Played Blops and Blops 2 to death, but I have little desire to play Ghosts.
Juggernaut Maniac?

I ... I can't.

I just can't get into this. It's so strange. I could play Black Ops II, but this just doesn't work for me.

I aim and shoot at someone, and they kill me first. And I can't tell if it's lag, or if I am bad at the game. But I don't know when Call of Duty became so ... ugh, people camping corners and poking their heads out to shoot you. People just starting at doorways for you to walk by. And rarely, very rarely am I able to shoot someone first and kill them. And I was one of those players that consistently ranked in the top places in previous COD's.

I don't know if it's the PS4 triggers ... I don't know, but man this game has made me the most frustrated I have been with a game in a long time. If my DS4 didn't still have the new out of the box smell, I would have tossed it across the room.

Does anyone have any tips? I'm really struggling with the game.
You can switch to a 'flipped' button layout if you prefer using L1/R1 ala PS3, this is what I play with with some success.

I'd interested to know the response time difference between the shoulder buttons and the triggers, the shoulders always felt more instant to me.

Also if you don't use Focus, use it. A few instalments back I was in the same boat of 'I shot first I died first' thinking how did I die there I had the same gun as the guy who shot me, and when I went back and watched things in slow-mo when I was firing my gun was pointing to the heavens because of the flinching. Focus sorts that shit out.

Lots of fresh meat right now, wandering the maps like they are exploring a new planet. Lol.
Trouble is they also ignore objectives and can make your game incredibly frustrating. Twice today all 5 of my team mates didn't both even capping the opening Domination flag you spawn by, and it wasn't like they skipped it to go straight to B either, like seriously WTF.

Broke down and bought Ghosts. I'm surprised I like it so much, given the scathing criticism I've read on here. My first few multi matches were fast and fun--just what I've come to expect from CoD.

I really appreciate that coming from something like Killzone. (Which I traded in but gave a second chance today with the free multi weekend... It nearly lasted a full match on my hard drive before I napalmed it back to Hell.)

Looking forward to playing more. I enjoy BF4, but CoD definitely scratches an itch.

Anybody got a GAF party going for this on ps4? Would like to get some good matches in tonight. PSN id is same as here.

What hours do you play usually? I'm Pacific time and I play around 10pm. Don't know about tonight because of the fights and I might get drug into playing NHL instead, but I'll add you soon.

Does the PS3 version not use dedicated servers? I could have swore they said all platforms would. Seeing people lag around, me pumping people 2 times in the chest with a shotgun only to have them lunge right through it and kill me is getting fucking old. Sucks because aside from latency issues and the same old bullshit hit detection issues, I think it's the best CoD since WaW.

Any Wii U people like to play Extinction? I keep getting stuck in horrid games with people who are...not good.

You joined my game the other night right? Feel free to join anytime you see me playing, but I don't play it all that much and have no idea if I'm any good at it.

Any Gaffers can feel free to join any of my multiplayer matches if possible too.

Define camping then. The worst possible way of camping is "proning" in a corner and shooting targets that runs by. The best way of camping, as I mentioned above, is to know the map's hotspots and camp from a suitable position, where you are still vulnerable from enemy's attacks. You go back and fort a few feet while covering a few pathways.

The best kind of camping is the kind that gets kills and doesn't hold back your team in objective modes. That's the short and long of it really. Whether that be lying prone in a corner or killing the same dude trying to get revenge over and over by camping a different angle in the same area, or seeing your team holding one flag and knowing it's time to get up and capture another, or situational camping where you know the choke points and enemy position and capitalize on it. There are so many tools available to neutralize a camper it's ridiculous.

A bad camper is someone who keeps getting killed over and over, doesn't help with objectives when necessary, etc... For example if your team holds A in Dom, and the enemy team holds B and C, and they're leading in score, you have to get off your ass and help cap instead of protecting A.

I think I know what you're getting at, but honestly any tactic that works is valid. It's like fighting games. In Street Fighter if you get hit over and over by a Ken throwing fireballs, you lost to a valid strategy and it's your fault you lost. Period. If the opposing player can succeed using a strategy that can be countered it is your fault for not learning and countering it. Is it lame? Eh, boring, definitely, but if the enemy isn't losing then what incentive does he have to change his plan of attack?

I mostly run and gun, I know the maps pretty well, so I will situational camp from time to time, but I like to stay mobile since I'm usually the one getting the most captures in domination. Not a bragging point in any regard, I have my share of shit games.

So is the current extinction chapter the only one that's being put out for free? At this point its the only reason I have this game anymore. I can't deal with the multiplayer. I just can't. Silencers are too prevalent, spawns are awful, I'm dead before I even react to a guy around a corner. People complain about this stuff with every CoD but I'm finally feeling it.

There's only one level of Extinction in the base game, each map pack will have an additional level.

Finally got a chance to play some MP on PS3 this weekend, the maps are huge.

Also matchmaking still doesn't work right based on skill.

You always have about 8 guys that are sub 1.0 k/d, and newbies, then 4 guys just mowing everyone down that are 1.5-2.0+ and maxed out..

Wish that would work, just once..

Had back to back 30-1 matches yesterday. Pairing the gryphon with the helo pilot is so boss.

That's probably the best back to back match run I've ever had in any COD game ever.

Took a few days break and finally got back on,
despite enjoying it and being my favorite since MW2 im not buying another COD.
Its been nearly 2 months and the spawns are the same as day 1. Not to even mention its the same problem every COD has had since W@W.

I'm finding this to be the most frustrating cod game I've ever played... maybe it's because I haven't played the last few games so I suck, but I don't remember ever being this bad haha

I'm struggling to keep an even K/D ratio and feel like I'm constantly getting shot in the back no matter what I do (most other cod games I played I had a 2+ K/D with decent win %) ... I probably just need to play more but goddamn do I get pissed haha

If anyone wants to play on PS4 my PSN is Dispatched. I usually just play by myself.

Anybody else tweet IW about spawns and have somebody from Act tweet you back saying they're working on improving it? Happen to me twice, lol. It's never happen on previous COD games, nobody has tweeted me back.

I guess with sales down, and reaction to the games seems to be quite minor, they're taking steps to listen to gamers.

Still spawns suck, lol.

Problem with this game is there are not enough perks to be able to move around the map.

You need to see all the sticky bombs and IMS, you need off the grid due to a mass of radar, and everyone is sound whoring due to insane noise levels requiring dead silence (which is useless against a camper with amplify).

So a camper with amplify is almost impossible to approach without them knowing your coming and his gun aimed at the doorway. Add the mass of corners and bars and things to hide behind and pop up, its not worth moving.

Hence, I have never played so many TDM where time finishes the game, its like every game is search and destroy. It sucked the fun out for me.

They haven't changed it that's why.

They have some changes in the works, though.

I've played nearly 500 games now and can count on one hand the amount of shitty spawns I've had and when they've occurred it was occasions where the opposing team were really spread out and penning us back, so entering spawn trapping territory.

I hope not. Outside of Seige and Stonehaven the maps are fine.

They really need to fix the riot shield. Everyone knows the only way to play it effectively and it's bullshit. I would gladly trade semi-invincible C4s for a Riot Shield that was actually usable as a weapon.

Also considering using IED X2 + danger close and throwing them down every time I spawn until IW gets a clue about the spawn problem.

So don't play TDM then.

Play Cranked or Kill Confirmed if you want a straight-up kill-based game, they hardly ever reach the timer for me.

Alternatively dabble in objective modes. Domination is as fast as it has ever been this year.

But yeah I think that Dead Silence should nullify Amplify. Or better yet remove Amplify, people are loud enough without it.

This game needs a map pack asap with smaller maps.

Siege is probably the worst map in the game. Everyone usually runs a sniper class since you can never find players running around. I usually spend most of the match looking for players, more then shooting. I've never had a good match on that map, Cranked is borderline unplayable on that map for me.

Siege is definitely a great candidate for worst map in the game. I'd also like to give consideration to Free Fall. It's like they took a good map, added 20 walls to it, added verticality to it, and then added 10,000 pieces of trash on the ground to get stuck on as you're trying to strafe. Seriously, take out half the walls, take out the upstairs, and clean up the floor and the map would be pretty great.

Siege is my least favorite.

Don't get the hate for Stonehaven.

Great map for Marksmen and LMGs to go snipe hunting.

Still don't get the complaints about camping and bad spawns. Very rarely hinders me at all.

I haven't played Free Fall yet solely because I haven't play free4all. However, I've completely forgotten about it and maybe will try and play a match on it later.

Not sure if I've ever made a list of my maps but here it is:

Love - Freight, Tremor, Sovereign, Strikezone, Warhawk
Enjoy - Chasm, Octane, Overlord, Whiteout
Tolerate - Prison Break, Stonehaven
Try and back out before match launches - Flooded, Siege, Stormfront

I normally play alone so this would apply to people in a similar situation. I would like to see an option where you could select 2 maps where one is good and the other is bad. When you search for your first game it would look for matches that meet your map criteria. I really hate when I have some time to play and it puts me into a match in progress on fucking Siege. Fucking boils my blood.

Its been almost 2 months though and that was the only major problem that needed fixing.

Here and there it doesn't bother me but when I am 10-0 and legitimately get killed.
Spawn get shot in the back, spawn in crossfire die, spawn on enemy side of the map die.
Then suddenly your 11-9 because of the spawns, just makes me furious.

Game that has me so mad right now was Domination which our team had A and B the entire match, but I get killed where do I spawn?
near C every time.

I'll be on it about 45 minutes if anybody wants to play. PSN same as here. Kill confirmed, domination, and search and destroy are usually my go tos.

The christmas influx has seemed to drastically improve the PS4 population

highest I saw it before the 25th was probably 45,000

i just saw it at 90,000

The highest I would see it around before Christmas was 35k, if it is hitting 90k now that is a pretty big jump.

xbox peeks usually at 50k. ps4 version must be outselling it 2:1. last gen it was 4:1 on xbox.

I saw it around the 43k mark before Christmas for few nights. Shows how many consoles were snapped up for presents!

I'd be interested to know from anyone who has a PS3 copy how many are playing on PS3 right now.

During the same time of day as my 40k observations it used to be around 290k on PS3, and so 90k compared to that figure is pretty decent.

Pre EU launch was 28K max
EU launch weekend was 38K max
Day after Christmas was around 67K and that was with PSN not working for most.

I literally spawned in front of somebody's sights looking directly at my spawn

In team deathmatch

On stone haven. One of the biggest maps in cod history

You are already a Ghost.

I played Blitz on Freight... that was insane. My team couldn't even score a point because both teams were spawning on one side only.

Camping is the worst thing about this game besides the spawn system... I dont lie but I was playing Kill Confirmed on Stonehaven the other night and decided for once I was NOT gonna be shot by snipers/campers so I stayed in a bush for a while..and after 2 minutes the score was 0-0 due to all the camping =/

Siege is so bad that there's actually a consensus about it being the worst map. That's pretty special.

It's too long end-to-end, so there's a lot of "dead" space at either side of the map that goes almost completely unutilized in modes that don't place an objective there. Almost no engagements take place in the "cave" space to the one side, so it just becomes a traveling space. Most of my time in the map is spent hoofing it over to the buildings on the other side, where all of the action takes place. But there are so many entryways and lines of sight that it's impossible to hold position there; you'll die sooner rather than later.

Map preference, in order of favorite to least favorite:

1. Sovereign - Probably my best map. Clear strategies to apply, nice ways to flank towards the center.
2. Whiteout - A pretty map, and the terrain changes are interesting and break up the lines of sight in unusual ways.
3. Octane - A very flexible map. You can snipe if you want (plenty of folks popping their heads out of cover here), or you can run CQC and stay to the edges to avoid snipers.
4. Flooded - The flood gimmick is a bit dumb, but the office and parking garage spaces are both very viable. Another flexible map.
5. Stormfront - Love the interior spaces here--lots of objects to use as cover, and lots of flanking possibilities. You can actually CQC here reliably, because there's so much interior space to patrol. Great for sniping too, of course.
6. Warhawk - That central road is a killing field, but there's always someone in it. The side with the trucks seems a little weaker though, to me.
7. Chasm - Such fun design to this map, with the elevation changes and weird underground parts. But the lines of sight seem....off, somehow, and the underground spaces are never utilized.
8 Tremor - Balanced, and with some much needed elevation breaks. But the upper room on one side is too much of a hot spot (you know the one).
9. Strikezone - It seems like it should be a CQC map, but if you roll with a shottie, there are too many parts where you can be caught exposed at range on one side.
10. Stonehaven - It's a big map, but most of the space in the middle seems to be dead. Too much action along 3 of the 4 edges of this one.
11. Freight - Balanced, but spawns here are a little screwy.
12. Prison Break - The space in the middle is a killing field, but it's not very strategic to hold. It's easy to camp in bushes. Spawns are a mess.
13. Overlord - The building in the center is a mess. Too many entryways to make it fun to fight in. Campers love this map.
14. Siege - Screw Siege.

Speaking generally, I like the large size of the maps, with just a few exceptions. I don't like that so many rooms have like 9 possible entryways and openings for snipers to target you. I don't like that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to spawns. But spawnkilling does seem mercifully difficult, and there's a lot of flexibility in the maps. Lots of good ones here.

EXCELLENT write up.

I'd like to try a running/shotgun loadout to troll some of these camping losers. Any recommendations? I'm thinking Bulldog with Muzzle Break and Slugs paired with Ready Up, Agility, Marathon, Quickdraw, and Dead Silence. Alternate ideas?

The camping is really the biggest issue I'm having with the game, sure I go positive most games but when people are going 28+ kills and less than 5 deaths a game it starts to get less fun. Not sure how to fix this exactly, I didn't have near as bad camping problems in Black Ops or BO2.

Team Deathmatch is really bad for that. Kill Confirmed takes care of that issue, for the most part.

I can't even play anything other then TD anymore. The camping in kill confirmed and domination is absolutely insane. To the point where i don't even bother anymore. TD still has people playing normally 75% of the time. I get into a lobby of artists at times in there also (artists being campers who don't even move from the corner as if they are painting what they are seeing), but it's a lot more reasonable then the other game modes.
