Call of Duty: Ghosts Wii U Resolution: 880 x 720

If what you said were true, the system would be able to render the same frame as the current-gen versions in roughly 1/2 to 1/3 the time, so there would be not be a reason for the (relatively speaking) lower resolution. How do you account for the resolution we're seeing implemented if that were the case?

Did you read the "minimal effort" part? Developing to the Wii U's strengths from the ground up is not what a minimal port effort from Xbox 360 code entails. The game will only look the same and nothing more.

Edit: Kind of like these terrible PC ports that come pre-set to a max resolution of 720p.

I wouldn't call it "minimal effort" - there is a very small and dedicated team with a shoestring budget and little time that needs to do quite a lot in that limited time. The path of least resistance always wins, especially as it's probably not expected to sell a great deal

So is the x1 MS sponsored Ghost also a low budget version. They must be funneling all of their budget to the Ps4 version amitite?

Very very few outside of a small handful of blind fanboys are doing any of those things. Lots of strawman attacking is what's going on.

They're the most vocal so oh well. MightyPoo makes it worse for all of you folks with his fanboyish hyperbolic posting.

Suddenly the Xbox One doesn't seem so bad, huh GAF?

$500 for a next-gen system that runs this game at the same resolution as what was capable last generation and is suppose to last 5+ years doesn't sound bad to you now, haha okay...

Many of us have been waiting for years for the launch of the next Xbox and this is what we get :(

Better than a $300 system that will be dead in 2-3 years without third party support.

You know something's wrong with the console when it can't even run a game that's using a very dated gaming engine in Native 720p, let alone Native 1080p.

Wii U confirmed to be running at 720p, Xbone also running 720p.

880 x 720 is a Sub-HD resolution. 1280 x 720 is Native 720p.

880 x 720 is pretty sad for a console that just launched last year. Glad I didn't buy my Wii U for multiplats and I am kind of feel sorry for those who did...

The idea that the WiiU GPU has 3x the performance of X360 GPU is ridiculous. That would mean a 33ms frames worth of rendering could be done in 11ms, but that devs were just too lazy to bump up the back buffer size to compensate.

Some posts suggest that the WiiU GPU and CPU is esoteric and require a paradigm shift to leverage properly, but that's not true. The system just doesn't have that much grunt. Its not what they were aiming for.

So basically the Wii U is just barely as powerful, if not slightly weaker than the 360/PS3 in some areas? It wouldn't surprise me too much, admittedly.

It's at least as powerful, slightly more in places, and has a much more modern feature set and design paradigm.

OT:

It's a goddamn COD port; a game series notorious for being pumped out quickly and cheaply on anything with a screen. Not to mention a port to a platform with a low install base and hardly a sniff of a demographic for this genre. Why are people using it to measure how powerful the console is? Or how powerful XBone is? How are people being so definitive all of a sudden?

I know I'll get branded a fanboy or WiiU/XBone sympathiser but it just reeks of agenda fluffing to me. I'm sure WiiU is only marginally more capable than 360 or whatever but knowing this particular game's resolution does nothing to confirm or deny that.

It's like measuring how good a race car is based on by how well it can tow a trailer. Or how good a chef is by how well he/she can microwave a pizza.
(I have no idea if these make sense, it's 2am and I've had a long day. GAF confuses me nowadays)

I don't think people are using it as definitive proof but rather another piece of evidence. It's been more or less established that the general processing power of consoles goes PS4 > Xbone >>> Wii U >= 360/PS3. CoD Ghosts doesn't prove that, it's just another data point. One that resonates a lot more with the scrutiny being given to resolution on the eve of the PS4/Xbone release.

Since you already know the CoD Ghosts Wii U sales figures, can you tell me who wins the Super Bowl too?

Baby, I'm a Nintendo fan and I want Wii U to do good, I really do. Me, my N64, GC, GBA, GBA SP, DSL, 3DS, and Wii, we all want Wii U to succeed, but you have to be realistic here, CoD sells like shit on Nintendo platforms.

Wrong. I'm sure World at War on Wii sold near 2 million... (or over 2 million?). I'll have to go and check...
Edit: The only 'source' I can find is ******** :/. CoD seems like it was doing a lot better on Wii because of the install base at the time. I hope the userbase for this game increases past 3k. I'd love to play something other than TDM

So is this worse than PS3/360 version?

Not sure why people are surprised if not. This version was hid from even being revealed. I dont know why Activision treats all COD on Nintendo platforms this way, but they do. Typical NeoGAF blaming the Wii U when this shits been happening for years especially in regards to COD.

No it's the same I think.

This thread has gone a long way. By tomorrow Wii U will be less powerful than Wii.
Glad to see some nice people like USC_fan and ridethepiggy bringing quality into discussion. Enjoy the fun.

I read the thread title and did one of those weird snorty laughs that mainly comes out of your nose, and now my nose hurts.

Boy, those Wii U spec threads sure feel like a long time ago.

I think the mods now discourages those kinds of threads because the hivemind was absolutely insane. It was a circle jerk of "diminishing returns", "Nintendo is saving the industry with modest hardware", "Barley any difference with Orbis and Durango", "graphics don't matter" with dolphin shots of mario galaxy sprinkled in.

It was quite a read.

Stop with the hyperbole. The Wii U Ghosts version is the same res as last gen hardware. THAT is a FACT. An embarrasing fact but stilp a fact.

It's pretty annoying since they seemed to know what they were talking about. I gave them a listen but all that went away after PS4's showing back in February. They really didn't let up until recently. Probably the only thing I could give them is the gap between PS4 and Wii U won't be as big as it was with PS3 to Wii... but even that was implied in a much more positive light than reality.

Jesus Christ, the console wars are strong in this thread. If it makes Wii U detractors in this thread, you're right. Its a shitty resolution, people who buy the Wii U version shouldn't be happy about it and should raise a stink to Activision that they expect better.

Now that we got that out of the way, what else is there to talk about?

So... if it's using the Gamepad, the Wii U is at 1,043,520 pixels and Xbox One is at 921,600?

Given the Wii U's limitations and presumably lower porting budget, I'd say that's not bad at all... assuming the second screen is at native resolution...

Embarasing for the developers maybe. It's one of the lowest resolutions for a Wii U game.
Well, to be fair, the Xbox One situation is much more embarrassing. It's pretty clear that the Wii U isn't much of a leap over PS3/360 so this isn't surprising in the least. What happened on Xbox One, however, was a genuine shock to most people I think.

The technology powering these Call of Duty games is hardly state of the art, however, and likely doesn't benefit much from any of the improvements Wii U may offer over Xbox 360.

So... if it's using the Gamepad, the Wii U is at 1,043,520 pixels and Xbox One is at 921,600?
Definitely not the same thing.

Had the Wii U had capable hardware it would have atleast X1 Ghosts res. It doesn't. Shame on Nintendo.

So you came to this thread literally just to bitch about the Wii U version of Ghosts..is what I've gotten from your replies. Fantastic.

In other news: I'm kinda bummed that this won't be not he eShop. I wanted to download it :-/

If it does it in multiplayer showing two different views? It kinda is... again, assuming Ghosts has this feature.
Oh, in that case, yes, but if it's anything like Black Ops 2 the performance and visual quality take a dive. It's still an awesome feature.

Of course, it's not as if the two versions of the game are the same either. The XB1/PS4/PC version is separate from the other versions even if they're all ugly.

A straight port of current gen software versus a moderately enhanced port of current gen software does not warrant blame to the console but reflects more on the publisher who funded the port or lackthereof in this case.

Okay, but you've been saying that throughout the thread. Is there anything else you want to say?

*Looks up at title of thread and sees 'Call of Duty: Ghosts Wii U Resolution: 880 x 720'*

Hmm. Ok.

I'm pretty sure the Wii U version was built on the "new next gen engine" according Treyarch who did the port.

edit: checking to see if my memory is correct...

edit2: it looks like it was Nintendo that said next gen engine, I was mistaken.

I doubt Nintendo would actually know...
