If they did this I would laugh/cry myself to death.

Resistance kind of already did the whole mixing WWII tech with alien or experimental tech to be used in war. I really hope this game doesn't do this as well, a bog standard WWII shooter with tactical gameplay and fun, addicting multiplayer sounds good enough.

It's gonna be a great fall for shooters.

Want your WWII game? Check. Want your futuristic shooter? Check. Want your Star Wars shooter? Check (and this time it won't suck).
Too bad there hasn't been a good Gears of War game in over 10 years.

*runs*

This game would have to do a lot to sell me on it. I just don't get the appeal of going back to WWII shooters, at least do a full Vietnam game or something. The Cold War setting was why I loved Black Ops.

Them doing a modern, future and past cycle would be the coolest imo. Not gonna happen tho

If they were smart they would. Based on their recent statement when talking about WW2, they seemed to indicate that they're happy with Infinite Warfare but that it wasn't the right time for it.

That to me, seems to imply that they're not done with future but need to choose the right time for it.

If they go from Past - Modern - Future - Past - and so on every year. That would be ace.

It would also prevent one setting from becoming too tried or running out of options.

If they were to all go into the Past, we would get burned out so quickly.

Yeah that's what happened I think with the futuristic setting. Everyone was clamoring for a futuristic CoD because how cool would that be?! Then by the time IW came out everyone was sick of it. Having a "past war", "slightly futuristic but still grounded in reality" like BO2, and "totally sci-fi futuristic" like IW on a nice cycle would be really cool.

Please be good. Would be awesome if they remastered some old WaW maps for DLC, some of the best maps in the CoD series for me. I can't speak of any game before CoD 4 because I didn't play them.

Unfortunately, I don't think multiplayer with antiquated weapons is going to be fun. I'd rather just pay 60 bucks for a MW2 remaster.

I'm still expecting a bait and switch. This is going to have robots or something stupid like that. I just don't see how Activision's loot box business model fits into a WW2 shooter these days.

I hope I'm wrong though because AW was great and I really want a new Sledgehammer COD.

Sensible camo, soldier appearances, avatars, banners, etc. WW2 should have no hindrance on the loot crate system.

My buddies and I have been trying to figure that out also. I'm ready for the reveal but slightly nervous that Acti will find a way to screw WWII era up.

I'd say exactly the opposite. BF1 is very interesting precisely because of the lack of electronic weapons and the analog feel of rifles and whatnot. Plus, I think that a smaller roster of weapons makes a game more interesting, since it doesn't make you feel overwhelmed with tons of things that you'll never try because you simply can't bother to spend your whole life unlocking things.

That's my concern.

At the very least it's going to be a WWII simulation, or something. That's the only way I can see them making their microtransaction business model work - "Of course there's pink polka dot camo - it doesn't really take place during WWII".

I just struggle to see how a series with dabbing, and goofy outfits, and Eminem trailers can go back to the somberness required to portray WWII.

Eh, I think BF1 went too far in the opposite direction. Granted I'm not sure what else they could do with a WW1 setting but the low amount of guns led to it to get boring a lot quicker than BF4 (which in some ways went in the opposite direction of that and had too many guns.)

Worse since leveling classes in BF1 is so slow and all you do is unlock variants of the same 4 guns.

Honestly all Sledgehammer has to do for me is deliver on the single player and I'm sold. I'm mainly a campaign guy anyways. Revisiting Advanced Warfare yesterday made it clear these guys can make COD look good and still feel as fluid as ever.

You do know multiplayer and the single-player story with have different tonal shifts. Your immersion will be broken the second you get killed by a kid that did a 360 no scope.

as someone who used to love the multiplayer of CoD 1 and CoD2 (and BF1 was great during my time with it). I'm looking forward to seeing how this shakes out. If it's just the same shit show we've had for the last three CoDs (of which, Sledgehammer's AW was the only one to do decent SP and MP in the same game).

I just hope scorestreaks/killstreaks (if they stay) aren't made ridiculous to keep the kids happy.
That said, I loved getting the artillery strike in CoD: United Offensive

Exactly. The "kids" wont be down with a straight and somber WII game when they've been playing Blops3 and IW. No dance moves and glowing melee weapons no sale.

I imagine they'll have a dedicated depot screen for supply drops, just like Infinite Warfare. But I can totally see the currency being attributed to Victory coins/points, and using them on a supply drop will play an animation where a C-47 flys overhead to drop it off, akin to the Berlin Airlift.

The single-player will be serious. They can do whatever they want with the multiplayer cuz people are already gonna do goofy shit that will kill your serious WWII immersion.

This isn't a simulator.

Of course, but I think it could be a controversy if the developers treat the era like a joke. Even things like a tactical nuke take on a completely different context. Things like clown wigs, and baguette melee weapons could become the opposite of cute - they could be seen as trivialization. The series doesn't have the maturity it once had.

So I have to think they will wrap a huge 'this has nothing to do with WWII in actuality', 'this is a simultation' disclaimer over the whole multplayer to justify the goofiness that rakes in so much microtransaction money.

The Sniper Elite games allow you to shoot Nazis in the balls in glorious detail. If they had no controversy then COD will be fine. Activision just needs to avoid saying stupid shit like EA did to promote BF1. If they have a 420 skin or a Ja Rule voice pack they need to keep it on the down low.

But you can do anything to Nazis in any medium, nobody is going to voice outrage at that.

Soldiers running around on Omaha Beach wearing glowing green aviators and dropping that Nae Nae might not be received so well.
