Calling All Cars trailer (WOWOWOWOWOWOW)

Man, I really want a PS3. It drives me nuts seeing something so cool looking and not having access to it. It's funny, before this gen began I swore that I would only get one console.

Then I got an HD display, so I got a 360.... then I got a Wii.... now I'm planning to buy a PS3, it feels like, sigh.

Also, to veer a little off topic; this video also reminds me of Twisted Metal and glory be how I adored the last outing. I'd love to see a Twisted Metal Black 2.

...Anyhow, the music and artwork in this are just freaking great. I love the presentation and it's been awhile since I've played a good car combat game and whenever I manage to get a PS3, I'm all over this

Fouad,

no tilt. We took it out two days ago. Didn't play well for this game and we would rather not have it than have it in to say we have it but it not be up to the quality of the rest of the title.

I LOVE the tilt feature but it's great for some games, not so much for others.

David

Seems like a good choice. Tilt would be tough with a game like this where left becomes right and vice versa whenever you're heading toward the top of the screen vs. heading toward the bottom. Would confuse the shit outta me!

On the subject of a demo, personally I feel as long as the game's under $10, it's a disposable purchase and I'm willing to take the risk, I mean that's the price of a single course meal.

I'm pretty excited that David's going to be working more on PSN games, I think Sony is really paving the way as far as what downloadable games offer. Well polished, sometimes experimental, and generally a great bargain.

Err.. I thought "hey, looks good for a PSP game" when I saw the trailer. Then it said PS3.

Kinda looks like fun, but come on.. are they even trying with the graphics?

If only all PSP games were in 1080p...

No, but he was going to.

Back on topic, I kinda wish there was some way of also playing certain PSN games on PSP, it'd be pretty neat to be able to download PSN games (like CAC) from the store onto PSP and play against PS3 players.

On the OTHER hand, for smaller games, often times players feel the demo is enough and then to not convert that demo into an actual purchase...NOT because they don't dig the demo but because they are getting 25% of the whole game in demo form and feel it's a better deal than paying for the remaining 75%. I did this with the Marble game for XBLA...play it alot but never actually bought it.

Dude, support the indy dev houses. It's like $10, jeeze.

Wow, this looks awesome. The game looks like a real blast.

I'm a new GAF'r, so I'm not used to developers posting here, this is totally cool that Dave is here answering questions.

Dave, can I have an autographed copy of God of War 1? ;)

I know what he means though, with some games it feels like the demo's provide you with all the experience you feel you need from the game. Demo's are tricky, you can't just cut a game in half and put it up as the demo (HELLO PREY!) You need to grab the players interest enough that they feel they want to make a purchase, but not give them so much that they feel sated, at the same time though you don't want to be petty and give just a ridiculously tiny snapshot of the game.

I was not trying to NOT support them; it's just on my hard drive and I never think to upgrade. That is my point: it's not a slight it's just you feel: I'm getting my fix

and then you don't end up buying.

I'll autograph it for you if you want.

Man that was sweet. Fell in love when I downloaded the vid from the PSN store a little while back.
Plus David 'da man' Jaffe in the thread. Dude you and your team should be bronzed and put outside the offices of programmers that just dont get it.

This thread has been Raven approved.:D

I imagine if you're buying the PS3 for only one $10 game, you could go for the 20GB model.

In this case he could've at least said $510, right?

Look David, this is my opinion about this issue :

The problem is not in releasing a free demo so people wont buy the game, NO

the problem is as you have already said : What kind of a demo ?

releasing a demo is always great for consumers ! But for a psn (or xbla) game you need to not release a lot of content in the demo, for example for calling all cars,

I suggest releasing only one map (one stage) without online, but with offline multiplyer.

with this idea, people who want to TRY or even play the game online, will be forced to buy the game,

and people who enjoyed the one map offline, will be forced to buy the full game to enjoy other maps,

and people who enjoyed offline multiplayer, will surely buy the game to enjoy the other maps.

One map, without online but only offline, is the way to go for a great calling all cars demo that get people excited about the game and inciting them to buy the game at the same time !

Hope I helped and you will release a demo and applicate my idea ! :)

Demo for a $10 game = LOL

I've played demos for like $5 games and it's saved me said $5 and allowed me to spend the money on like a Double Stacker meal. Which is really good. Does anyone know what that sauce is? Russian Dressing?

Hey David. We appreciate you taking the time to answer these questions. Always a great read. But I was wondering.....

I love how ambitious Sony are being with their original PSN games, but what are the chances of this gen's new killer app or break out title being a PSN (or any download service in theory, for that matter) title?

Could this new generation's equivalent of God of War (from say, a critical and sales success stand point) really be a PSN game or are they destined to be more lightweight and throw away compared to disc based retail games?

In essence, do you think the PSN could unearth this gen's next big IP/killer app?

Holy junior members BATMAN.

On Topic: Looks like a fun game Jaffe. I can totally understand the price point since I look at it like this: I would totally pay $10 for 4 more Resistance MP maps, right now.

You've said in the past that you were kind of worried about what people expect for a $10 download. I have to admit, I had a lot of anxiety downloading my first paid-for game off the PS store, since I've never bought a game that I download.

Now that I've seen more stuff come out, and have downloaded a couple other things at good prices from the store, I don't worry about it so much. It's just a matter of kinda learning how much your money is worth game-wise at lower level (at $5 or $10 or $15).

PSN, buddy...

I don't really understand how download only affects the quality of the visuals. I hardly think anyone minds waiting for their download a little longer to get higher resolution art assets and more detailed poly models. They've obviously put a lot of effort into animation etc. Or does Sony enforce cheaper, download only games to be less attractive not to compete with regular retail software?

I don't wanna seem like a troll, I mean the game looks pretty fun, but I have a hard time understanding why a game looks like this on a cutting edge piece of hardware.

The budgets for these titles is nowhere near a full retail game. hence the $10 price tag :/

I think for a demo you should make it timed. Like release 1 stage, make it like 1 car and a 2-5 minute thing so they can play 1 game. Maybe also offline mulitplayer and after it end it just takes you to the thing which says Buy Full game, and you can click on it, like blast factor.

Maybe for the control , but what about using tilt as alternate function?
I like the way resistance is using tilt.I mean while playing/running/fighting , its hard to check out the map by pressing select or any other button that will make u drop one stick at least. In such a case tilt is great, just a little movement and here, the map is there!

Dont know if there is any map/leaderboard ingame, but nothing more frustrating than having to stop just to check something else

Just wanted to say thanks for doing something new and unique. I really like the artwork and style. I'm definitely in on this game.

See you online :)

The "this" you're talking about is simply a stylized look. A style a lot of people seem to be fond of. It's not like it looks -bad-, it's just unique.

Would you be happy with the cars looking like they're from GT or something?

How sad.

Don't be a hater Luke. We all know you're going to secretly be playing the shit out of this game.
