I'll be getting back from my deployment soon and I'm looking for a prepaid plan. I've got a Nexus 4 and I used it on Straight Talk before I left without any issues. I'm thinking about going with Go Phone when I get back into the states, as was wondering how the quality of the service is.

Just wanted to say thanks to OP for making this thread. Saved me a lot of money switching to $30 prepaid as I'm in between jobs.

not sure if this has been mentioned but now you can get LTE with Verizon Prepaid. If you use auto pay, its $45 for unlimited minutes with 1gb/data, and additional 3gb is $20 more

So for $65 you can get unlimited minutes and 4gb LTE data, which is expensive compared to Tmobile's $30 deal. But since Tmobile reception in San Francisco is horrible, $65 is somewhat doable :)

My wife bought me a Nexus 5 and I freaking love it. Swapped the sim from my Nexus 4 and I'm good to go.

Can't believe how light it is compared to the Nexus 4.

Anybody here have experience with FreedomPop?

I just switched to them from Ting, and while the customer service is eh, and I had a hell of a time getting it activated (mostly because I wasn't running stock on my GS3), it's really incredible.

So I'll cliffnote; Sprint MVNO, free plan available with 200 minutes/500 texts/500mb of data. They charge for even the most basic services (like voicemail is 2.50, though I just use Google Voice for that), but unlimited talk/text is 11 a month, and their data plans aren't unlimited, but alright.

They also have some ways to earn free data: The goofy referral stuff, which I hate, then stuff like Freedom Friends, which is basically add this person's email and you both get 50 megs.

You can also download their mobile app and get 200 megs for that.

So after comparing it to Ting:

Ting Plan: 100 Minutes, 500 Texts, 500 MBs of Data - 30$
FreedomPop Plan: 200 Minutes, 500 Texts, 1.2 GBs of Data - Free

Suffice to say, if this works as advertised, I'm not going anywhere for a while. Thoughts on em? I was gonna make a thread about it, but figured I'd hit up PrepaidGAF first

Been looking at it myself and this is one of the most recent things to pop up. Any experiece anyone?

Well, I've been on it for a couple months and love it. Speeds are decent, but calling is a bit of a mess since it's done via data networks. Can cause some goofy stuff.

Beyond that, glorious.

So I already have Sprint, that means anywhere I get service now I would have servixe with Pop, correct?

They're a Sprint MVNO, so I believe so, yes. You can buy a phone from them (it can't go back to Sprint/other MVNOs, IIRC), but you can BYOD (My Ting GS3 worked, I just had to cancel the account/let the number go). It costs 20$ to BYOD. Number porting ain't happening through them.

Anybody on Virgin Mobile USA (me) they just got the HTC Desire 816. Pretty okay mid-range phone just average battery.

Just want to give you guys a mini review

I brought a couple Ultra Mobile sims for my wife. It's a TMobile MVNO, for $29 a month, you get unlimited voice, text, free calls to some countries and 500MB of data. Additional data pack is cheap.

The best part is you can buy sims on ebay that come with first month of service for free, for $14-15 each. That makes it the cheapest GSM option for casual smartphone users.

There are two type of cards you can buy, one on the right is the red card. It comes with 1 months of service officially, so you just have to activate it on ultra.me. The bpurple colored type, you have to call a dealer to activate the free 1 month service. Either one is fine. I believe the red doesn't allow porting and the purple one can port in a number. My wife use Google Voice so it no concern of mine.

Ultra doesn't have nano sim so I have to get a nano sim cutter too.

Man fuck Verizon and their shitty overpriced plans. I love tmo's $30/4g plan but the coverage sucks where I am right now. Why can't Verizon get something similar?

Anyone use H2O Wireless? Am currently on tracfone with a dumb phone, but find their smartphone options really lacking. H2O is on ATT, offers similar pricing on their pay as yo go plans, and I would be able to use an unlocked GSM Moto G. Data usage isn't a big deal for me so it seems like a better option than tracfone.

Think any of these will be iphone 6 friendly

Looking to switch out of sero. I might just try getting a family plan since parents have been asking about new phones.

I'm thinking about switching from AT&T to the Tmobile $30 5GB/100Min plan for the iPhone 6.

Couple questions though. Does Tmobile Wifi calling use minutes?

And if so what's the best alternative to make voice calls without using minutes on the go?

Pretty sure it does. Ummmmm use Google Voice? Or use stuff like Whatsapp. All I can think of.

Is straight talk the best att option? I'm looking for 3+ GB on att but can't seem to find a good option that isn't like 70/mo. Already on tmo prepaid and i would like better coverage.

If you're a low data usage customer, they seem to have a good plan for unlimited voice/text + 500MB for $30/month. I'm a Cricket customer so I can't give any feedback on H2O. You can always try them for a month and switch to another provider if you're unhappy.

If you don't get any feedback here, try reading Howard Forums. They have a sub-forum for H2O Wireless and you can read some of the threads there.

You can use Cricket Wireless. Their Pro plan gives you 5GB of high speed data and then unlimited low speed (128kbs afterwards) per month for $60 ($55 if you use automatic payment). It uses the ATT network. The plan I have is 2.5GB for $50 ($45 autopayment).

StraightTalk will give you 3GB of high speed data and then throttle you afterwards for $45.

Was reading Howard Forums and saw this:

Cricket announce new increase data on all plans: Starting Sept. 13th.

Basic gets 1gb - was 500mb $40 with $5 auto-pay discount is $35
Smart 3gb - was 2.5 gb $50 with $5 auto-pay discount is $45
Pro 10 gb - was 5gb $60 with $5 auto-pay discount is $55

Existing customers will automatically get new rates on their next billing cycle.

So Cricket is improving their data plans which is good. I find Howard Forums to be really good reading from time to time to learn about different phones and service providers since they focus on telecom.

Personally, I have the Smart plan but I find that I never used more than 500MB in a month so I probably should save money by changing my plan. The reason is that I'm usually near WiFi with home/work.

Oh, nice. Perfect timing on the increase. I guess I'll either go with that or Straight Talk. Haven't seen a lot of better options. Thanks.

I'm guessing this is probably area dependent, but I see cricket throttles at 8 Mbps. Is it usually around 8 in most areas?

Cricket is on ATT and I rarely see speeds over 10mbps with my ATT phone. Does Cricket only have access to 8mbps for full speed data and date over the limit is throttled to EDGE speeds like most carriers when they throttle you?

i joined Verizon prepaid two months ago. Verizon prepaid is literally the worst company I have ever worked with.

- I bought the LG g2, didn't like it, so I switched to a Moto G. It took them 3 hours to get the Moto G working because the G2 uses 4G, and the Moto G uses 3G, and that's two separate departments at Verizon Prepaid that don't talk to each other.

- I purchased an additional 1gb data and 500mb of data on two separate occasions using their app. Due to a "system update" it didn't take hold so I had to call in and waste an hour of my time to get it activated and added to my account.

- They had to creatively suspend my online purchases and add them manually, so I can no longer buy data using the android app.

- I enrolled in auto pay so I get an additional 500mb free of data. Today my 2nd month started and for some reason they only billed me for $28 instead of the $45 (which is the cost of the plan) so my phone no longer works. At 11:30pm. So now i have to wait to talk someone online who doesn't have a clue on how their billing system works.

Just don't even think about using Verizon Prepaid.

Hopefully someone here knows the answer to my problem:

Is there a single prepaid provider, that doesn´t cancel the contract after 3 or more months of non use?

I think Ting would allow this. You still would have to pay a monthly charge which is $6 per phone.
