Can someone recommend me some good gaming podcasts?

8-4 Play my shit right now. It's the only podcast I'm excited for when a new episode releases.

Giant Bomb is rubbish.

Bombcast is great when they're not talking about games.

If you want something different, check out BYOT with Dan Hsu (formerly the Mobcast).

Woah! I'm surprised theres no mention of The Besties!

It's Polygons gaming podcast. It's a podcast where three dudes present what they think is the best game that came out in the last week, and a fourth dude judges it and decides what he thinks the best game of the week was. Then, they decide if that game is better than the previous best game of the week, and whatever holds best game for like a month gets nominated as a Game of the Year contender.

It's got Justin and Griffin McElroy (which are two pretty fuckin hilarious brothers) in it, as well as Chris Plante and Russ Frushtick.

The podcast started off kind of ruleless, but it's gotten more structure as it's gone on and it's hilarious and a great way to learn about some new fun games as well as hear what people think of all the newest games you already know about.

AND it's got this HOT track as it's intro music. It's the number 1 intro track to any podcast ever.

8-4 is the only one I can listen too. The rest of them have annoying people on them who may be very well informed about games but I can't stand their voices.

Basically this.

Also I think my gaming preferences are more aligned with the 8-4 Play guys than with, say Giant Bomb, or something.

- Whine about everything.
- Circle-jerk iOS and indie games.
- Talk about games/franchises they don't know about as if they do.
- Retarded, uninformed Nintendo commentary.

That's basically every gaming podcast ever, I stopped listening to all of them. I don't recommend any of them.

The only podcast that's smart about video games is Idle Thumbs. I also listen to 8-4 Play and occasionally Giant Bombcast, but they scratch a different itch.

Thank you for mentioning this! I loved the Mobcast and was sad when it mysteriously vanished. I'll have to check out BYOT soon. I guess it's an acronym for something?

That really doesn't apply to GRUK at all.

Yep, Bring Your Own Topic. (Same format as the Mobcast with each guest bringing a topic.)

If you prefer hearing nerds yell over each other for 3 hours with maybe 10 minutes of actual gaming discussion thrown in the middle than the Giant Bombcast is a solid choice.

I haven't checked that one out yet as Polygon's whole schtick seems a bit pretensious for me, but I do love Justin and Griffin on My Brother My Brother and Me.

Oh man, if you hate the pretention on Polygon you'll LOOOVE this podcast. It doesn't really have any air of the whole "Head up their ass" personas that the website brings. I recommend you check it out.

Like I said though, the first couple episodes lack structure so it's more nonsensical, but once it gets into later episodes it keeps the humor up but also feels like you're actually getting useful information about new games and stuff you should check out.

Bombcast (definitely the funniest)
Idle Thumbs (great in-depth discussions)
8-4 Play (often funny, cover mostly Japanese games, provide a different perspective)
Chruncheons (they're pessimistic about everything, just like me! Some real talk in there)

Nintendo Voice Chat (if you're into Nintendo, obviously).

I loved this NEVER segment from the Giant Bombcast but haven't enjoyed the podcasts I've listend to since as much.

I know of it, but it's a tad difficult going through the first episode of any podcasts. Too much of a time investment to play catch up with a show. With that said, I've listened to several episodes, and I thought it was good, but not amazing like other people believe.

Maybe people who believe it is amazing have listened to more than several episodes.

They don't really yell over each other that much, but you're right that a lot of the entertainment comes from the personalities and the game discussion isn't always very strong.

Bombcast and Idle Thumbs are all I listen to regularly.

I'll check on the odd 8-4 Play as well, but it doesn't always do it for me. Warning a Huge Podcast is also a good one, although it doesn't seem to appear that often.

I also listen to PC Gamer UK and Rock Paper Shotgun whenever they put out a podcast.

Giant Bombcast, Weekend Confirmed, and Rebel FM are all I listen to weekly. Although I can't stand Arthur much. Constantly comes across as some pissed off 14 year old goth kid that's too cool for everything and sounds like he hates being on the podcast.

I am so glad to see the Andrea dislike with Weekend Confirmed. Every other thing she says makes me grind my teeth. the drunk episode x1000000000

Yeah, Andrea really brings the show down. Any other time, I really enjoy Werkend Confirmed though.

Also, Giant Bomb is hilarious, but their video game talk isn't always intriguing. Does it bother anyone else that Jeff pretty much hates everything? I think that's the reason I stopped listening to that one as often, most of those guys are so cynical about video games. Their non-game talk is priceless though.

Bombcast is the only gaming podcast I listen too. Unless you're a neckbeard or some kind of weirdo, it's the only gaming podcast you should listen to too.

=)

I used to love Weekend Confirmed, but the show stumbled when Leahy left, and then again when Xav left. They both brought some balance to the discussion that I feel is lost now. Still enjoy Garnet and the Jeffs, though.

Bombcast
Idle Thumbs
Maximum PC
PC Gamer
Cruncheons
(And for tech stuff the Tech Report podcast, PC Perspective, and This Week in Computer Hardware)

For Nintendo coverage, 8-4 play and NintendoWorldReport.

For Nintendo hate coverage, GiantBomb. I still listen (for now) cause they are great with everything else, just very anti-Nintendo.

I've also started listening to Game|Life and Player One Podcast recently.

Thanks, I will!

Thanks for the mentions of the Crucheons :) . Kevin puts a lot of work into making that podcast bearable, even if Doug is the 'carry' of the whole shebang.

I've been thinking of making a thread about it but Retronauts do a weekly lunchcast. It's only two people and occasionally last gen, but it's pretty decent.

Pity One Life Left never gets any love around here.

I see Weekend Confirmed mentioned a lot, but I don't think it's good any more. Too apologetic about everything. No longer has the witty banter and contentious discussions heard during the 1UP Yours days.

Cannata's quote 'I like liking things' makes me want to puke.

My favorites

8-4 Play

++Good Games Podcast

GiantBomb Bombcast

++Good Games are slow to release new episodes but it's a great podcast. Great chemistry between the two and it's legitimately funny.

1UP had some great podcasts a few years back. Even though they're old, they're still fun to listen to. I also really enjoy the old episodes of 'Three Red Lights' back when Hillary was still with IGN.

I know people don't really like IGN but their podcasts aren't half bad. GameScoop can be pretty entertaining, not sure if they still do episodes on a regular basis though.
