Can you recommend me a game (I'm disabled)?

I'm one handed gamer tòo OP. After investing in a new mouse aside turn based game like Darkest Dungeon and Hearthstone. Action RPG like Diablo 3 and Grim Dawn became my new favorite genrè although I don't know how mùch your hand could handle it because you can't rest your game like turn based game does.

Oh damn, I forgot about these. OP can play Steins;Gate and Dangonronpa.

edit: Forget Dangonronpa.
Yeah, VNs in general are good choice. Steins Gate is amazing. Turn Based Strategy games like Civ V or say Endless Space/Legenda should work as well.

Turned based RPGs in general would be good. If you're willing to get a PS1, Saga Frontier, Breath of Fire 3/4, and the Suikoden games are great pickups.

I'm not sure if this has been already been suggested or not, but if you can get someone else to play with you, maybe Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes could be a good choice, as long as you're the bomb expert and not the one actually defusing the bomb. You'd literally only have to read a pdf document and relay instructions to your friend, so that could work (plus it's a fun game!).

Throwing my hat in for VNs.

Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors + Virtue's Last Reward
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series

These two in particular. I was initially thinking Danganronpa, but there's aiming and timed gameplay involved, so that's not a good option. Strategy games are also a good choice. XCOM, Disgaea, Fire Emblem, etc.

To steal BShadowJ's idea, you could also play certain games with someone operating the controller like Danganronpa, which would offer the opportunity to appreciate the story without having to deal with the timed stuff or aiming.

If you're enjoying Hearthstone, you might want to look into more card games, im personally very fond of Hex: Shards of fate, which in addition to PvP has a story mode and other PvE modes.

Civilization games and other turn based strategy games might be cool too.

Turn based rogue-likes?

Ironcast is a turn based match 3 (well not really match 3) game that has no time restriction on your move, similarly, dungeon of the endless has a pause function so you can plan your next move and then restart the action again.

Strategy & Tactics
Frozen Synapse (it is an awesome game, turn based)
Doorkickers (swat like game with pausing and painting your squad' s movement with the mouse)
X-Com (turn based)
Civilization

Point and Click Games
Broken Sword Remastered
Broken Sword' new game is pretty good too

Collectible Card Games
Magic the Gathering ( cant remember its name, it is ftp on Steam)

I am on mobile, so i will add more games when i get to home.

Tormentum: Dark Sorrow. There's a demo and I believe it's on sale on Steam right now.

He doesn't have a 3DS so unfortunately a lot of those great suggestions like AA won't work. Now, there are Attorney games on iPad if OP has that. Plus Ghost Trick and 999.

Danganronpa though is on Steam. Steins;Gate can also be purchased. Ooh, what about Trails in the Sky FC. Battles are completely turn based.

On Xbox - isn't Blue Dragon TB? What about Last Odyssey as well? Both are cheap.

From what you describe you can play turn based games with unlimited time to make your decisions so I would suggest the Total war series or the Heroes of Might and Magic series.

I think anything turn-based could work for you, as you can take your time. Maybe start with something like Heroes of Might & Magic for Strategy or Etrian Odyssey if you prefer RPGs.

MLB The Show did a great job adding controls for disabled gamers back in '11. And when they add stuff like this, it carries over to every year after, they almost never remove features.

ESPN did a story on someone that has cerebral palsy that helped them refine the controls.

"Hans Smith pitched his way through an up-and-down rookie year for the Cardinals last season.

Don't recognize the name? That's because Smith is a virtual athlete who spent an entire season playing as himself in "MLB 10: The Show."

But Smith is anything but your average gamer.

The 25-year-old baseball fanatic suffers from cerebral palsy, making it impossible for him to play the game he loves in real life.

But that didn't stop Smith from making the Majors.

You see, a few years ago, Smith wrote a letter to Sony's San Diego studio, the developers of the top-rated "MLB: The Show" series, and the producers were so moved by Smith's passionate words about the sport of baseball, the Cardinals, and their video game, that Sony went ahead and created Smith's character in "MLB 10: The Show."

And according to Smith, seeing the cyber version of himself gave him a feeling like never before. It was as if by some miracle, his cerebral palsy ceased to exist nine innings at a time.

A feeling Smith wants to share with other disabled gamers."

Sorry to hear this OP, I hope things can improve.

I have always wondered about the lack of content for disabled people, considering how useful it has proven to be when research has been carried out using games to rehabilitate people, it is a shame that MS killed off Kinect for the X1.

I have a Kinect for my X360, what about Kinect Adventures! & Kinect Sports, I enjoyed playing these also Dance Central 3, I have never been into dance games but I enjoyed playing this, there is a list of Kinect games here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Kinect_games you will have to check as some just have features that add the Kinect experience to regular joypad games, most Kinect games I would think are pretty cheap to pick up, there used to be Kinect game demos on the LIVE store, I don't know if they are still available though.

You mentioned the WiiMotes that you cannot use them, what about attaching a WiiMote to a glove, so you can keep your hand straight but move the WiiMote about as you don't need to grip it in the palm of your hand, Wii's are pretty cheap & there is loads of games for the system that are very cheap, if you have a friend with a Wii you could try something out first with attaching a WiiMote to a glove.

Slightly off topic, I think that disabled gaming is something that neoGAF should try to help with, this site is one of the biggest on the internet in general & I would say the biggest games related website, it is also pretty well respected & also influential, is there nothing that neoGAF as a community (we all have our differences I know) but I think we all speak with the same voice on gaming for disabled people, there must be something that we could to to force the issue on to the likes of MicroSoft, Sony & Nintendo as well as the developers?

There are some sites & communities that can help people with disability in gaming http://www.ablegamers.com/ & http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/disabled-gamers-can-play-anything/

I agree. This thread has gotten me thinking about things that I have never thought about before. It's unfortunately never really crossed my mind.

I'm not a game developer but maybe there is something that we can do here.

What are small, easy things that developers can add to modern games that would make them more accessible to people with disabilities?

For example, some developers have recently begun to add a colour blind mode that makes a huge difference to some people but is a pretty easy thing to do on the development side.

Another example is, click to walk. Having click to walk on something like Skyrim or The Witcher would make a huge difference to many people but takes nothing from the development team.

Maybe we can come up with a list for developers to refer to if there isn't one already.

edit: Nevermind. I just clicked on that able gamers link and they have this down pat.

What a great site. I would love to see more developers use this.

I don't know how much you can keep gaming, but you think you can play a turn based rpg ? You can take all the time you need in battle and moving.

If you can, I would recommend Trails in the Sky that's available on steam

Telltale / point and click adventure games, they're great for taking you out of reality and they'll be easy on your hands.

I'd echo all the people mentioning Infinity Engine style RPGs like Baldur's Gate, Wasteland 2 or Pillars of Eternity.

Even the PC version of Dragon Age:Origins can be played with just the mouse if you want. You can pause at any time and access most of the commands with just the mouse and you can set party member's tactics if you don't want to get nitty gritty controlling them in every fight. That said, I'm pretty sure BioWare dropped the ball with a lot of the accessibility options with DA: Inquisition, unless they ended up patching things back in a while after launch.

Rock band 3 vocals on xbox 360, set up a playlist with quite a few songs, take as long as you need picking the songs, then with the mic on a stand you only have to sing away to your hearts content, you will have about 2 or 3 button presses after every song, to progress to the next, but if you choose 3+ mins songs there would be decent pauses, actually in between songs you could take breaks as long as you need before you click next song

Also they say singing is a great mood lifter.

If you like that sort of thing, best of luck op

as one-handed guy, I can tell you Telltale game not really that easy to play due to the QTEs

They should add an "easy" mode which doubles the time you have to react. Heavy Rain/Two Souls has something like this.

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. I'll tell you some more about my condition. I can use a mouse, fairly easily in fact, just not non-stop. Hearthstone is perfect for that as it has enforced breaks in the form of the other player's turn and thinking time on your turn. Moving the mouse seems to be particularly easy as that's mostly arm, it's probably the clicking that's taxing. I guess I could play any non real-time game in theory, the problem is that I don't have the willpower to make myself rest. If something were thinky (like some of the suggestions above) that would probably do it. Hand controllers are completely out (including wiimotes), anything without hands is completely fine (dance mat, Kinect, etc).

The Witness is the only game recently that has made me really put the mouse/controller down and really think about what's happening on screen.

Unfortunately, that's punctuated with relatively long walking segments where you have to navigate a relatively large open world with consistent mouse movement. Although not much clicking, I guess!

From a matter of your tastes I'd recommend any Final Fantasy starting at FFX and going back or turn based RPGs in general which is a majority of what Square Enix use to put out.. Maybe try some turn based strategy like Fire Emblem, xcom, final fantasy tactics or Front Mission.

Thanks so much for all the amazing replies and sorry it took so long to reply. I was a little overwhelmed by it all if I'm honest. I read everything and the games you guys have gotten me interested in are:

Child of Eden
TellTale games
Fruit Ninja Kinect
Xcom
Crypt of the Necrodancer, before the echo
walking simulators
her story
life is strange
darkest dungeon

These are games that sound good that might be a bit difficult:

Fallout 3
Civ 5
Knights of the old republic 2
faster than light

And these are the games that I need to look into more:

Deponia
Zero Escape Series
Broken Age

Amazing thanks for the reccomendations of the stinky board and the combo of the Tobii eye tracker with Project Iris; both of those appear to be perfect for me.

I'll explain my condition a little bit as quite a few people were interested. Imagine an energy bar, everything I do with my hands depletes it, quite quickly in fact; especially any video game where you have to continually move your character about. Hearthstone works for me as 80% of the time your hands are resting, during this time the bar fills back (albeit much slower than it depletes). 80% is more than enough of a ratio for the bar to fill back quicker than it depletes. Thus, the ideal game for me is one where 60%+ of the time you are doing nothing with your hands, with the caveat that this resting time must be enforced as I'm far too good at busting through the pain and ignoring what my body it telling me.

I'm super excited about the two dance mat game reccomendations (I'll buy a mat just for them) and Children of Eden too as I loved Rez. I will check out the others too and who knows, maybe just maybe I'll shell out for one of the amazing hi tech solutions here some time in the future. Thanks for the well wishes everyone, you genuinly made me quite emotional. Cheers!
