Capcom: Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies hitting the West [Digital Only Confirmed]

Btw. the "justification" of Capcom was already posted, but I haven't seen this last passage:

The bold sentence hints at lower than your usual 40$ price, I guess.

If this is true then I'd be a little bit happier.

...A little.

oh who the fuck am I kidding DAY FUCKING ONE AS USUAL

I usually lol at the whole entitled gamer thing... but this thread makes me a believer.

I have nothing against people that are for picking up this on sale... but people that are ignoring it completely based off the principle that there is no account system or you can't smell the boxart?

dling 1 game on your 3ds isn't gonna make the 3ds slip out of your hand and land in the backpack of a bankrobber.

Maybe this logic just isn't clicking with me somehow... dont know. Or am I in the minority where I bought a few eshop games and my 3ds hasn't been stolen or fell in the toilet or something?

I don't exactly defend it. It's of course worse than just having an account system. But come on, it's not like every other 3DS will get lost or damaged. These are very rare scenarios, probably as rare as losing all your cartridges.

It also seems like a strange scenario to sell your 3DS just to rebuy it again months later.
Actually, many original 3DS' will probably get damaged because it scratches itself. :>

Tell me how to lend a 3DS e-shop game without lending the 3DS.

apparently the lack of a physical release is worth killing the localization of this series over.

of course, it'll still be Capcom's fault when the next game stays only in Japan, right guys?

This is a point I've raised in some other digital-only threads. The terminology needs to change. "Buy" has implications of certain rights of ownership. If I'm merely licensing the game, make that clear and don't use the word "buy".

When you buy the disc/cart I'm pretty sure you're only buying a license too.

I did not expect the level of angst over digital only to be this high in 2013. I guess I can understand some disappointment but I didn't think it would be this severe.

I'm just happy this is coming out in 2013. I didn't expect this game until next year. Nintendo's archaic account system sucks, but the worst thing that could happen is that I lose access to a game I paid $40 for. I can deal with that if it means we're getting AA5.

SMT - Summer
AA5 - Fall
LTTP2 - Winter
Bravely Default - probably q1 2014

I like how these games are spaced out.

Forget the fact this is eShop only. That doesn't bother me in the slightest.

WHERE IS LAYTON X ACE ATTORNEY?!

I'm amazed at the number of people who are pissed about this but they're already pulling down their pants and bending over to buy the game anyway. It's more bothersome to me that there are people who just take it as if there is no choice and then wonder why there are so many bad practices when it comes to digital and online content. You have a choice, you just choose to give the companies all the power.

or that it will be episodic.

Sorry, no. A retail release would necessitate changes to code, another QA pass, a seperate submission to NOA/NCL, 45 days of manufacturing/shipping time and significant physical COGs that would require pricing that is different than what we will be doing.

And it is still an exciting announcement that the latest AA game is coming Westward and doing so in a "timely fashion" relative to its Japanese release.

Digital only has me excited unlike a lot of other people in this thread. No need to ever switch carts, get it right away, sometimes comes with a lower price tag.

Makes sense for the developers too as more money goes back to them and its frankly safer for a niche game like this.

The current DD system for 3DS\WiiU is awful.

That said, it hasn't stopped me from going all-digital on both systems.

Day 1!
#YOLO

And this is why these types of things rarely change. If it's 'awful', don't support it. I didn't like Gamestop selling opened games as new, but instead of complaining every time I went there, I went out of my way to take my business elsewhere.

I want to play AA5, it's one of my favorite series. However, I will not buy the game digitally. If I don't get to play it, so be it.

Tell me how to lend a 3DS e-shop game without lending the 3DS.

I can't lend my steam games, or basically any other digital service games?

hmmmm last game i've ever borrowed from someone was everything or nothing on gamecube (still have it lol).

Just lend your friend/family your 3ds... or if that isn't possible... early/late christmas/bday gift?

I don't think people would be nearly as furious if Nintendo's online account management system wasn't a completely unreliable mess.

You also gotta pick your fights. I'm all for fighting the man, but boycotting AA5 won't do jack shit besides lowering the chance of AA6 coming to the west.

and if the series is never localized again because of poor sales, so be it too, right? people are acting like their refusal to buy it will contribute to Capcom's choice between selling this game digitally or physically.

it won't. it'll contribute to their choice between selling it digitally or NOT AT ALL.

I'll still be purchasing Ace Attorney 5, even though it's digital-only.

Would I have preferred a physical release? YES!, however it's not worth completing avoiding the game for.

It does sadden me, though, that more and more developers are considering the digital-only release as a "good enough" solution. If smaller companies, such as NISA, can release niche RPG's with physical releases, surely companies such as Capcom can as well? Or maybe adopt the Ninostarter/Kickstarter approach and allow physical copies to be purchased for a limited time [if they reach a certain limit] to, at least, give fans the opportunity to purchase a physical version.

The aspect that really hurts this whole situation the most, though, is that non-unified account for the 3DS. If that was in-place I think a lot more people would be positive towards digital-only titles, at least for those they really want [like this one].

That's very broad talk. What exactly are you speaking about?

You're calling out people who just want basic rights every other digital platform on the planet provides entitled? Really?

1. Yes, you can.
2. I can't do that. (And that's against the condition). No, I'm not buying the exact same game twice/thrice/etc.

You also gotta pick your fights. I'm all for fighting the man, but boycotting AA5 won't do jack shit besides lowering the chance of AA6 coming to the west.
Guess that's too bad for AA6.

I've had handhelds stolen in the past. The idea that my games would fucking disappear alongside it because Nintendo can't implement an account system is the problem.

Painting peoples legitimate worries with Nintendos abysmal E-shop system as paranoid fantasies of people worried that bankrobbers will steal their games is dishonest and childish.

I did not expect the level of angst over digital only to be this high in 2013.

This level of angst doesn't occur on PSN, nor Xbox Live, nor the PC with Steam or GoG. Because they have proper account systems and people aren't worried about their games suddenly disappearing.

I can't lend my steam games, or basically any other digital service games?

You can absolutely lend people your Steam games.

Digital only isn't so bad if it means Capcpom can actually release the games we crave.

Though my physical copies of AA1-4 and Investigations will be so lonely without Dual Destinies. :(

I'm going to buy it regardless because Ace Attorney on a terrible digital download system is better than no Ace Attorney at all. As much as I'd like to believe not buying the game would send the message of not wanting to buy games digitally on 3DS, given the history of the series with Capcom USA, I think it's far more likely that the message they'll take from it is "Well, guess you guys don't want to support the series. Hope you enjoyed playing an AA game in English for the last time!"

So is it just me that thinks this will be episodic? Or are we just going to whine about Nintendo's account system?

Will post it again since new page.

Maybe I am? idk. Those basic rights are nice, but in the end this is all about the game right? If I must have to deal with a shitty digital platform to play a game I want... then I'll usually bite. How is this different from you going through loopholes to get certain music games on ios?

Actually, you could give your friends you log in data.

people actually do that? All my friends that wouldn't want to pay for a game already got the game in other shady ways instead...

I understand where you're coming from. However, there is a difference.

When you said that you "went out of my way to take my business elsewhere" you implied that you still purchased the game, only not at Gamestop. That means the game was available for purchase somewhere else.

In the case of AA5, it's either the e-Shop or nowhere [unless you live in Japan or have a Japanese 3DS]. There's no option to go elsewhere, so if you're fine with not playing the title...at all, that is entirely your choice.

I'm upset as hell, and I hate what Capcom is doing. If I had any other choice I wouldn't purchase digitally, however it's not worth it [to me, anyway] to miss out on AA5 [and possible future installments] simply because I'm not able to have a physical copy.

But again, it's dependant on your personal beliefs. I'm not here to say you're wrong or anything, just to give my perspective on it.

So is it just me that thinks this will be episodic? Or are we just going to whine about Nintendo's account system?
It's just you. While the games are technically kinda episodic in nature, they're still released bundled together, and I see no reason why this would be any different.

people actually do that? All my friends that wouldn't want to pay for a game already got the game in other shady ways instead...

It's a possibility. I personally hardly do it, because my friends and me aren't teenagers anymore and have enough money to buy our own games.
But sometimes it's still a good way to show games you like to other people.

I REALLY hope he put his last million dollars on that game.

The people here putting it into perspective are right. This comming out on the e-shop is probably already the result of some unsavory persuasion.
