Capcom announces LOST PLANET 2 (360) - shock&awe imminent

I neglected playing the original especially since I enjoyed the demo so much. I think I'll go back and play it once I pick up another 360. The 4-player co-op set it over the top for me.

Capcom has refused to confirm that Lost Planet 2 will be an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Earlier today Capcom supplied more details on the upcoming title (confirming that it will indeed deliver a co-op multiplayer campaign mode for up to four players).

Yet the publisher was fairly ambiguous regarding which consoles Lost Planet 2 would arrive on. Capcom stated the title is “being developed for the Xbox 360”, but didn’t go as far as say exclusively. Capcom was, however, not shy in reminding that the announcement was delivered “exclusively” on Xbox Live.

Edge contacted Capcom to bring clarity to the situation, yet a representative for the publisher could not take the opportunity to brand the game as an exclusive. “All we can say at this time is that we’ve announced Lost Planet 2 for the 360,” he responded. "That's all I can say."

In September last year Capcom stated that "...all major titles launched during the next fiscal year or thereafter will be developed as multiplatform games.”

I hope Capcom just makes it a BIGGER game all around. Big nut crushing boss battles in shock and awe situations with explosions going off all over the place and constant banter between teammates to defeat the enemy. Awesome looking suit customization and weapons along with an awesome multiplayer mode.

What happened to all their games are multiplatform? Are Microsoft's moneyhats so large that they can make Square-Enix and Capcom outright lie?

Even if it's a timed exclusive it can still be multiplatform.

Well, the trailer did a pretty good job of confirming that, but it's great to read it directly from Capcom...

The first one also had a separated trickle of info with tons of big trailers and the SP and MP demos of the game, so I wonder when the next big media day will come for LP2...

I really gotta say that the attention this is getting, intentional or not, is really something else!

The first game was already epic-feeling by yourself with all the explosions and stuff, and multiplayer was always a blast to take part in, and just from the trailer with the 4 players climbing that huge Akrid already says plenty that LP2 will take it to another level...

Maybe MS is more willing to work with Capcom and SE than Sony is?
Didn't Kaz Hirai say that developers should be glad they have 10 years to learn working on such difficult hardware? Feelplus has done work on some SE games and Microsoft paid for Lost Planet marketing which made the game a financial success. The fact that Lost Planet bombed on PS3 and Sony didn't help out with the marketing obviously has nothing to do with it right?

Timed exclusivity doesn't prevent a game from being multiplatform...

PR doesn't even mention exclusivity at all, only that it is, in fact in development for 360 and will debut on it. I'm still expecting PC/PS3 ports down the road.

That's also true, I mean, i'm going to buy this on 360 no matter what, the series was born on it and it's only suitable, but it's not really fair to piss on ps3 owners for not supporting the series when it wasn't given nearly a fair shot for survival.

That said, I prefer 360 exclusives any day, take advantage of that bitch. But if their going to do it multi, they should do it right, at least make the ps3 version as good.

I'm sure Capcom knows about what they stand to gain more than random genius analysts from GAF.

If its exclusive I'm sure Capcom is profiting from this some how. The real question is whether or not MS stands to really gain anything from the moneyhat.

Depends, there seems to be good evidence that a lot of people own both consoles or something, games that release at the same time don't really do a shit load better on 360 but if one of them is timed exclusive the gap widens greatly. Kinda strange.

Wasn't there a NPD article about how PS360 owners were only like seven percent or something? I don't know, I'll google-search for the article.

Does it really matter if it's exclusive? The fanbase is on 360, anyway, and it managed to sell well over a million last time.

Releasing Colonies mere weeks after the PS3 version of the original shows Capcom doesn't give two shits, so long as they get them some monies.

I think this is another case of people applying things that are common on Gaf to the rest of the gaming world. If most hardcore gamers owned both HD consoles, then Sony wouldn't be in nearly as much trouble as they are in. Their whole problem is that all the hardcore gamers bought the 360 during it's first year, when there was no competition, and have yet to be convinced that they need a PS3. These are the early adopters who are buying up all the games and driving the 360's amazing attach rate. If Sony could get these same people to buy PS3s and start buying software for it, they'd be in good shape.

That is dependent on the game. How much more has WaW for example sold on 360 over PS3. Couple of million give or take in US alone iirc and likley not too far away from each other in PAL land. That is a pretty big gap. However, Capcom games that have released at the same time do fare much better. Take a look at DMC4 for example at the least the hard numbers we got first month NPD and who knows in Europe. So it depends. However, if they are staggered like say Bioshock yes the gap certainly does widen.

That seems to be likely the case here.

Yeah but DMC4 had to wait because of the 360 port. Theyre probably having problems with the engine on ps3 is my guess or Microsoft paid for a timed exclusive. Which is stupid imo because it is going to affect sales on the ps3.

dont get me wrong, fanboy wars is fun and i like to get involved ironically, but i also enjoy dead rising so its annoying when actual discussion is sustained and replaced with "waah wahhh in this ps3 screenshot there are over 400 zombies, 5 more than the x360 version!" "waah wahh but you see in te x360 version you are able to see the characters fingernails and as the game progresses you have real time crud forming underneath those fingernails"

Rather have that then

Awesome game, too bad its not on PS3
PSN version please
Is it coming to PS3 yet?
I just found a random internet article that talks about a PS3 version!
Capcom multiplatform my ass

And insert anymore crying and whining.

Microsoft arranged for the exclusive announcement and nothing more, I'm willing to bet they're still negotiating on the exclusivity, which is why Capcom won't confirm or deny anything.

And even then it won't be over, remember Resident Evil 4.

This looks really, REALLY good. I wasn't sure if it was CG or the game multiple times throughout that trailer, but it looks like MT Framework 2 really pushes the envelope even more than it's predecessor. I like all the gameplay changes to LP, especially not following the same main character and having new environments. I enjoyed the first but never beat it because it just got boring.

In actual Lost Planet gaming and non-port whining news, I bought Lost Planet Colonies for the PC today after my hunt for the 360 version was fruitless - and even finding the PC version was pure luck as it was a t the last store I could think of going to, didn't see it, asked for it they said nope, then said wait, it's in the bargain bin - he found it and it was discounted to €14 - the last 4 copies even...

Lucky lucky me! Then again, had I known that it would disappear off the face of the earth like this (didn't even find it online), I would have bought it at launch like I said I would ages ago...

I'm still on the hunt for the 360 version though...

Well, not everybody owns both 360 and PS3. And people have a right to question if the game is coming to PS3 since Capcom themselves stated they were going to be multiplatform from here on. So when they go and announce this game in the way Capcom did, causing utter confusion for people, well.....

At least with that I can tell them to Fuck Off and buy a 360.

And they should...for Raiden Fighter Aces cause that's gonna be hot.

I somehow missed news ofo this. Any chance of a PC version? Or news of one? I'm assuming so since both colonies and EC hit PC.

Chances are good. MT Framework is a very PC oriented engine designed to downport easily to console hardware so it wouldn't take them much effort to put one out. The original arcade version of SF4 was built to run on fairly modest PC hardware and the later console versions were ported from that. All of Capcom's recent games (BC, SF4, RE5) have PC versions announced. Strangely I think Dead Rising was the only big game they put out lately that hasn't got a PC release. The only thing that could actually stop it from coming to PC is Microsoft and their huge sacks of cash. :|

Shouldn't you just buy a 360 already? I see you in lots of topics complaining about what games/DLC the 360 gets over the PS3, you seem like an avid gamer, shouldn't you just spend 200 bucks so you don't have to complain anymore? Not that I care what you buy, but it's the same puzzling response as last gen when Xbox or GC-only owners whined about games that were only on the PS2. 360 getting more games and DLC seems like the way it's gonna be. People gotta adapt or get over it.
