Capcom, Grin's Bionic Commando Sells A Meager 27K in U.S.

"Capcom and Grin's Bionic Commando franchise sold just 27,000 units in its opening month in the U.S., despite the title's roots in Capcom's classic swing-and-shoot platforming game from the 1980s, research firm NPD Group told Gamasutra on Monday.

Bionic Commando sold that amount at U.S. retail from its May 19 release to the end of NPD's retail calendar on May 30, across both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game. NPD Group said it could not disclose the exact split between Xbox 360 and PS3 sales."

lock if old.

Given how everybody seems to have forgotten about it, I'm not surprised.

Rearmed should have been the disc game anyway. No one wants a 3D Bionic Commando.

That 3D game?

I didn't even know it came out.

Is it any good?

And by 'any good', I mean of course, is it at ALL like the original Bionic Commando and not a 3D Prince of Persia or God of War clone of some sort?

No, it's because they didn't port it to the true software selling powerhouse, Wii.

Yes we do, we just don't want this one. A bad game is a bad game.

Ehh, it seems like Sonic to me. Too much of what I like about the game seemes like it requires the game to be 2D. I loved Rearmed, I thought it was what an update of the series should be.

reviews I read said it's all invisible barriers and insta-death from falling. 6s and 7s all round.

Some great ideas

Best swing mechanic in video games

look good

but execution and design are missing

GRIN as a studio should not be doing a billion projects at once

I rented it last week. I can't tell you the amount of times I said to myself, "Do I really suck this bad at this game?". It was just a really frustrating experience overall for me. I think it would have been an excellent game with better level design, and a better checkpoint system.

It was overshadowed by inFamous, no doubt. 1 week apart, inFamous had tons of advertising on TV, in retail stores, etc.

I bought Bionic Commando and I enjoyed the game a lot. But 27k sales up to now? DAMN.
Capcom need to ADVERTISE more.

Looks that way to me. I doubt any company could handle three high profile PS3/360 bombs like this.

Wow, I feel bad for Grin. They're going to be remembered as a case of what not to do as a independent studio.

As it has been said in many, many reviews - the swinging mechanic is great, the story, bullshit purple fog and everything else is just a big "What the fuck?"

Spoilers:

Your missing wife? She's your arm. Super Joe - The hero to all? Traitor for no good reason. Nobody likes anybody, they're dicks to each other the whole game. Mysterious sniper? is not explained at all.

Makes me wonder what's going to happen to Ben Judd after all this.

I guess the game will not reach the 1.5M expectations from Capcom. I'm sorry for Ben Judd and the grin guys, they worked really hard on this game.

exactly...they must've gotten overzealous with the requests for their work. Instead of putting out one proven piece of software at a time to build their business and rep, they released 3 pieces of shit in a short span.

Booo!!

NPD also said Electronic Arts' Wii game Boom Blox Bash Party, released May 19, sold 23,000 units during the period. The game is the sequel to May 2008's original box-toppling puzzle action game Boom Blox.

This is bigger news to me, as it's a good game selling shitty.

Yeah, it had the potential to be great but with the invisible walls, placing radiation pockets that almost instantly kill you in spaces where almost every player will swing into, and the loading every couple blocks, this game failed to deliver.

As I said in the NPD thread, this makes pretty damn sad as I love the new Bionic Commando. The MP in particular scratches that Lost Planet itch so damn well...

Easily a 4 outta 5 for me, both SP and MP

Well shit, now I want to play through it! How long is the game, I'm like an hour in?

I liked swinging around in it a lot. I didn't like fighting at all, though.

They should make a game where you just swing around.

I bet there's a lot more pressure on the devs of Capcom's Dark Void now. Its up to them to bail out Capcom US western outsourcing strategy. Causalities so far being: Bionic Commando and Age of Booty.

probably one of my favourite games this year I don't see where all the hate and complaining is coming from for this game.

what :lol

Yep,
you are told at the end of the game that in order for anyones bionics to work with their body, it has to be "fused with someone close to them." I remember speaking to the TV at that point: "WTF, so they poured my wife's soul into my arm, huh?"

Flock tanked too. Right now the economy of sales of Capcom titles is basically telling them "Established franchises only, and only from the Japanese teams" because despite their best efforts, nobody wants any of it.

For the record, I liked Commando 3 and 1942: Joint Strike.

I never want to hear anyone say anything about MadWorld bombing ever again. :lol

I still want to try this out, though. I didn't like the demo, but hopefully single player bodes better for the game.
