Capcom hopes to update RE 1-3 for modern PCs

I think I remember asking Sven on the Capcom boards years ago, when GoG started up. Glad to see its something they are trying for, I don't own a console that can play the classics, and trying to get the PC versions to work is a bitch. Updated PC versions would be awesome, il but them and I know others that would too.

Fuck yeah !

I doubt 1 - 3 are going to hold up unless they change the controls to suit modern tastes.

This paradigm is not an actual thing outside of marketing campaigns, for big budget titles, designed to quell criticism. Taste did not undergo a sudden shift in the last decade, consumers predilections have maintained a constant. The only thing that has changed is publisher focus on trying to capture the casual mainstream audience, at the expense of quality, instead of playing to niches.

Why not RE4? Why does square release remakes of so many games except FF7? What's wrong with Japanese companies?

Because it would mean publicly admitting defeat. FFVII is their most famous title, the one everyone is always asking them to devote the resources and development team to completely remake the title. But if they do, they would be admitting that they are creatively bankrupt and they don't have the proficiency to create a new, unique narrative and gameplay experience. All they are qualified to do is rehash decade old works with better graphic fidelity and voice acting.

I'd love to know details of why REmake and RE0 are still exclusive. You'd think with how many other Capcom games get the port action, those 2 would as well, and yet they remain GC exclusives.

All my money on Steam if it happens.
Since I heard the PC ports are quite good actually.
With only the DC versions using it as a base.

If this gets me to play the non-dualshock director's cut version of the original Resident Evil, I'm all for it. Release all three games on GOG and it's an instant sold.

All 6 of the Capcom "exclusives" happened at the same time

And since RE4 came out on PS2 and later on other platforms, one would naturally assume that Capcom can port anything they want. Yet Zero and REmake have not been ported to anything but Nintendo consoles.

So either Nintendo helped fund some of these games or Capcom does not know what the hell they are doing, i mean they ported RE4 to pretty much everything under the sun at this point.

Anyway i just assume that "update RE1-3" for PC means the character models and enemies would have next to no jaggies, but otherwise the same game?

??????!!!!!?????

I would buy a good PC port of RE4 at... a high price.

They'd have to redo the port of RE4 on PC.
Since the port alone is pretty bad. Took a bunch of mods to make it enjoyable.
Also I guess it was ported by Ubisoft so Capcom might have to do the work again I guess.

Ya kno ive been thinking that re1 remake could be on pc/steam for some time now. Would doble dip on them if they get a pc release

Was hoping this meant more REmakes but either way anything classic re is good. They need to get back to their roots. Imagine REmake 2 on ps4/durango... would be incredible.

Is there any reason why the REmake is not out on anything other than a Nintendo platform? It's the only one of the old games I would love to play but I'd rather play it in HD with cropped sides or whatever they need to do.

As long as they don't "Resident Evil 6" them I'm positive.

What does that even mean? Remake these games with the Resident Evil 6 engine so it plays like Resident Evil 6? You guys are failing to comprehend what he is saying and leaving too much to the imagination.

Now people can replay these and see just how bad they really are. They should just leave everything the same, tank controls and everything and just update it so it'll run ok on modern machines and OS'. Then again if they take the tank controls out 90% of the horror in the games will be gone.

There was nothing stopping them before if they wanted to replay (and enjoy) them. On the PS3, for example.

Yeah. All he said is they are going to fix issues with new OS' (hint: after a bit of tinkering the original versions of RE1-3 play just fine), and people are dreaming of full blown remakes.

And take insane amounts of resources and time to be done, costing $79.99 at the end.

All I have ever wanted is RE2 remade properly with a movement scheme that doesn't frustrate the ever loving hell out of me to use. Keep the original controls in the game, after all they're a legacy that needs to remain intact but I just want up on my D pad to make my character move UP NOT RUN LEFT BECAUSE HE WAS FACING LEFT.

That being said RE2 is probably one of my most replayed games of all time.

REmake was part of the Nintendo deal and RE Zero started on N64. Nintendo probably helped pay for them.

Playing the originals after having experienced REmake is impossible. Would buy another REmake port on PC or handhelds though.

The DC versions are the best so hopefully they base the new releases on them. I dont have access to REmake or RE0 so hopefully they port those too.

I played RE1 for the first time last year. It was pretty damn good because I accepted it was antiquated. I loved it enough to do the speedrun to get the infinite grenade launcher without using a guide.

You know RE1-3 would actually make extremely good point and click adventures with a mouse as your main control while holding right mouse button to pull out your gun, move mouse left and right to spin and up and down to change upper / lower shot. The rest of the actions being mapped to the keyboard. Which would honestly just be open inventory, run and I think interact?

Hey I got to complain on RE6 again I'm satisfied. ;P

Resident Evil 1-3 have pre-rendered backgrounds, no way a resolution option gonna do any good for the games, backgrounds need to be re-rendered in whatever resolution they are "officially" going to support.

And having played REmake and RE0 anything less will be a disappointment (my opinion).

The pre-rendered backgrounds hold up, upping the resolution on the character models is all that is needed.

Prepare to be disappointed. They are talking about getting RE1-3 to run, that's all.

people are going to laugh at this notion, but for REmake and RE0 it's pretty surprising how good they look in HD even with their pre-rendered backgrounds.

and the PC versions always had resolution selection. i think it went up to 1024 x 768 back then.
