Capcom to PC gamers: Buy SSF4 Arcade Edition

mbmonk said:
It would be cool if they used the PC version,

Why would they use a platform that only has one "modern" fighting game for a major tournament. Serious question, no trolling or anything.

You'd be seriously insane if you think they're going to do that. Maybe if Arc Sys Works, et. al. ported GG (past XX:#R and out of Japan...), BB (well, there is CT, but that isn't "tournament ready" anymore with CS2), MK9, MvC3... et. al. ported, sure. But there is no community pro/competitive wise on the PC to where putting money into PC rigs is crazy.

It's nice that Capcom is porting SSF4:AE to the PC two years after the fact, but let's be honest: This isn't exactly going to bring a "fighting game Renaissance" to the PC as much as some of us (Me!) want it to.

I thought the problem is that PS3 sticks only work on Intel mobos.

Nope. I have an intel board. No go.

The fuck? How does that even make sense?

They used some old ass USB 1.0 host controller shit or something. Chun li stick fixes this, but guess what? That stick is pretty much Out of print. They fucked up pretty bad on that one. While I like my OG TE stick, I am forced to use my HRAP3 on my PC.

It won't be because PC ports come way after the fact. That Blazblue PC port was the most useless thing I have ever seen.

If they wanted to be serious. Release them worldwide on the same date, not 1-2 years later.

Not EVO in particular but other tournaments that are running on the Xbox 360 could use the PC version as the main stage and stream version. Then for a change, stream monsters could actually get fighting game streams that are good quality.

My TE worked fine with my Asus P5B-E board. =\

Haven't tried it with my Gigabyte P67 board.

I have my Mayflash Wii to USB converter and TvC stick, but judging from the stress test, I don't know f my PC can handle it...without turning the effects to low, and putting backgrounds to "simple" (lol wireframe) without it dipping below 60fps. In short, I can play tourney level speed only when I have it look much much worse than SSF43DEd.

Here's hoping there are more in-between settings for rendering in SSF4:AE PC (or they optimized the engine for Windows 7 PCs).

it is annoying, however, all you need is a new intel motherboard...older models dont have it, but any new intel socket 1156 and up will have the chip

Does anyone know if I can use my Dreamcast arcade stick on PC with a simple adapter? I've looked for one on the internet but have yet to find anything.

Surely someone has done this?

edit: found one... $17. I don't want to buy a new stick so I guess this will have to do.

Has anyone used this "Trio Linker Plus II"?

Capcom's Christian Svensson made a few posts about the PC version of Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition being pirated, as it has hit a few websites ahead of the title's actual release. He also talks again about when the offline DRM will be removed and takes a few feature suggestions for SF3 Online Edition. Lastly, he follows up on the proposed stream law change which has been a popular subject as of late.

The PC version of SSF4 AE was leaked and the pirates posted it, is it possible to push the release date forward now? — KRG

Svensson: That's unfortunate, but not unexpected. It's not possible to move the launch date for a variety of reasons.

Pirates will have their offline play only and no online features at all.

I heard the offline DRM limitations are still in the PC version of SSF4 AE, what gives?

Svensson: To clarify, I said the update would come "shortly after launch". We're still awaiting approval on the TU that officially removes it and that's likely to take a bit of time still.

PC SSF4 AE on Steam was listed for $26.79, but it went away. What happened? — Andre

Svensson: It was a temporary screw up on Valve's part. It's been rectified.

Will I be able to get a retail copy of SSF4 AE on the PC?

Svensson: We'll be shipping a few thousand copies to our distributor but I can't speak to how or who is carrying it at retail. As I've said before, if you want it guaranteed, the Capcom store definitely will have them in stock.

Can you provide us with more detailed info about the PC DLC prices/MS Points and for what will it be ? — Hingis

Svensson: [Check out this image.] The cost per costume here is dramatically lower than it was on the console releases back in the day and the purchasing mechanisms are better for fans of particular characters (don't need to buy 3 packs to get all of the costumes for a particular character).

Something I forgot that should be disclosed:

We won't have a DLC solution for Steam at launch. All other versions will have access to the Games for Windows Marketplace for DLC. For Steam we're have to impliment a solution using Steamworks for the the transaction mechanism and we're still working on that solution.

When I get more clarity on timing I'll let you know.

Is it possible to ignore or block users when we play SF3 Online Edition?

Svensson: Within the scope of Xbox Live and PSN matching, being able to give feedback/requests to avoid those users are always possible. That's not something specific to our game though, that's all games on a given network.

Besides, talking about another announced training feature this time, namely recording set of action for parry (as far as I understood, you can take the control of 2nd player for instance, configure the 1st CPU player in full parry mode, record the set, and then try to parry all the combos). My question is : it is possible to exchange these recorded custom parry challenges between users? This will be great actually!!! — Slim

Svensson: Interesting idea. I don't believe that's currently in the plans anywhere though.

What do you think of the anti-stream bill that's going around? — Toshin

Svensson: The reality is, historically we have been helped by these activities (e.g. EVO streaming) and on some occasions we have been hurt by these things (MvC3 Galactus and other video leaks, AE video leaks, etc.).

There is no question there is an ownership and copywrite issue in these cases, though I'm not terribly sure legal action is in our best interests in most cases unless we have to do so to demonstrate continued defense of the IP ownership.

That said, if this legislation comes to pass I'm sure we'll figure out ways to support folks whose efforts and intentions have historically been helpful. Our community team will likely take center stage in facilitating those activities.

And as you know, we've got games releasing soon that enable YouTube uploads directly from in-game... in the future I hope to have games that out of the gate enable streaming. Obviously we'll have click through licenses to allow for those uses as facilitated by those products.

What's more, I don't believe the government is likely to take proactive action on criminal merits without the prompting of an IP holder to initiate the probe. They just don't have the budget or bandwidth to police that.

In short, I don't forsee this being a major issue for most organizations today.

I am going to keep this short. You pulled the first sentence out of my post, and left out the rest. Which leads to an misrepresentation of my post. You also left out the context (which makes sense considering the discussion you are quoting happened almost 1 month ago).

I was responding to another post that in essence said "Maybe they will use the PC version at EVO". If you reread my ENTIRE POST in context I was nicely saying that probably would not be the case. Namely because the reasons you listed ( console can play a wider variety of games ).

So next time pay more attention to the context instead of seeing one sentence and hitting the reply button instantly please.

EDIT:
To Clarify here is the post I was responding to (which was quoted in my post originally):
Now we might see the PC version used at Evo 2011 and other tournies. The reason simply being that it's bound to be superior to the console versions on a moderately powerful rig, and people can use the.fan-made character mods if they wish. Not the naked ones or Preggers Sakura, natch.

And here was my reply:

It would be cool if they used the PC version, but supposedly they have already bought numerous PS3's for the tournament. Also you can use the PS3 for other games like MK9, HDR, etc.

But I completely admit I don't know WTF I am talking about. I have never been to Evo or even watched a live stream of the event. So I can be 150% wrong on this.

Diago kicking ass with a "Preggers Sakura" would be f-ing funny though.

Seriously I've spent a lot of money for costumes and am still missing quite a few packs. I hope they do something similar on consoles cause that's insane.

15 dollars for costumes is still a shit load of money...for costumes in a game.

I can't believe they get away with costumes as DLC nowadays.

$15 for costumes would be an appropriate pricing for consoles. On PC version, I'd rather just download the hundreds of more creative costumes that have been made by fans.

Supposedly the problem is only when you try to use the stick on an Nvidia chipset mobo (nForce). Unfortunately I have one of these mobos so I have to buy a cheap USB PCI card ( using the VIA chipset ) in order to use my PS3 TE stick.

EDIT: I don't think the 360 TE stick has the same problem. I think it's the PS3 only.

Don't really bother me paying for costumes. I play Street fighter games for years until a new one comes out. So the throwing some extra money capcom's way for something that does't split up the community and is purely cosmetic is fine.

Tip money IMO. SSFIVAE is easily worth the $40 they're asking for.

Not really, considering how many there are. They did have to pay people to design and create these. $15 for ALL of them is pretty good all things considered.

Yeah, If I'm calculating it correctly, it's 102 alternate costumes total.

If Valve sold 108 TF2 hats for $15 the internet would collapse.

It's a great deal if vanity is your thing.

Very true, well said.

I'm just bummed I missed out on the Steam price goof and that I can't use my MS points I have stockpiled for the Steam version of the alts.

I wonder why the Steam version of AE can't use the GFWL Marketplace like Vanilla SFIV.

Dunno, but they changed the way the XBL downloads worked on Super with the compatibility packs. I think you only actually needed to download one of the costumer packs in full in a given set and the following ones were just keys and the DLC record didn't show up in your HD memory management screen on the dashboard. It was weird.

It's like $60 for all the costumes on consoles. :\

So are steam users going to be able to see the costumes when they play against people who already have the dlc from elsewhere? It'll suck having the data on the hard drive without the ability to buy it.

Whether it's Valve or Capcom, it bothers me a lot less when publishers pad their profit margins with cosmetic stuff than when they sell more substantive content at a really bad value.

A lot of times they are limited by the venues internet connection. The PC version would not fix this.

two questions:

should i buy the pc or ps3 version?
Also, what arcade sticks are compatible to both systems and good? :P
PC version would be best if you've got a capable rig. All non-madcatz PS3 sticks should work on PC.

Sven answers some general questions about AE PC. http://www.eventhubs.com/news/2011/jul/03/sven-discusses-pc-leak-ssf4-ae-world-wide-release-dates/

Sven would you mind explaining to me how in the world did you manage to have the game already leaked in the internet before it's official release? — Chris

Svensson: Retail... distribution... as soon as it leaves replication on its way to a retailer, leaks are inevitable.

This is one reason I'll be happy when PC retail is dead and buried.

Yeeesh Sven, tell us how you really feel.

Valve wants to save it's users from Spacebucks? I'm down with that.
I suppose I'm just curious as to what exactly will stop users from just using the GFWL overlay to buy the costumes. If we're all using GFWL, what will stop me from applying the costumes to my Steam copy once I've purchased them on GFWL?

Damn I'm kind of regretting not getting the AE edition on Steam. Does the 360 madcatz Tournament Edition arcade stick work on the PC. How many mod costumes are there?

It works perfectly, it uses the 360 controller driver.

well I bought this with a friend (2 copies) to play during the summer holidays and now the game won't recognize our Hori Fighting Sticks 3 (yeah laugh away), we tried Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 both 32 and 64 bit versions, nada, nothing... well it shows the sticks are indeed plugged but it won't let me assign directions or whatever, this very stick works flawlessly with SFIV PC Vanilla ver. without tweaking anything or having to map buttons, just plug & play!!!!???? WTF Capcom ? ?????!!!! are you trying to make us buy new sticks when ours were already working flawlessly? or did you take out the support of this stick just for the sake of it?? F U CAPCOM F U support PC my ass

edit: of course you can play perfectly with a 360 controller... F U Capcom
