Capcom to PC gamers: Buy SSF4 Arcade Edition

I know that but what's stopping anyone from just buying now from GFWL?

Why would they try to stop people from buying it?
My question to Capcom/Valve would be: Why even utilize Steam's DLC marketplace if GFWL, which is built-in as soon as we start up AE, is all we need to buy it?

Edit: It's just that Sven made it sound as if Steam users have to wait.

Anyone have any luck getting the PS3 TE "S" to work? It shows up in the button config as USB Wired Stick 8838 but when I try and map buttons/directions nothing works. I've tried changing the stick setting to LP/DP but the game acts like nothing is there.

Anyone with the Steam version able to purchase the costumes? I know Capcom will be utilizing Steam for DLC of Steam copies but I want to know what they did to stop Steam users from just buying it off GFWL.

I guess nothing. All DLCs from GFWL games are handled by GFWL marketplace, even if they are sold by Steam. Actually, if you buy a piece of DLC from Steam and it is a GFWL the only thing they delivery to you is a Live code that you have to manually insert and download ingame or through xbox.com.

Yeah, my PS3 TE stick didn't work either. I exited the game, verified game cache, unplugged all of my USB cords, only put headphones and stick back in. Loaded up, I was able to assign buttons in the controller menu. Phew.

We should start up a SF-GAF Steam group or something. I'm absolute garbage at this game now, but it'd be fun to play with people here.

Okay, tried this out with a plethora of controllers and almost all worked:

Xbox360 Wired Pad : Works
Xbox360 SF4 Fightpad: Works
SF 15th Anniversary Joystick through Radio Shack PS2-to-USB: Works
SF 15th Anniversary Pad through Pelican PS2-to-PS3 USB: Works
Saturn "Fighting Pad" (The actual Saturn one) through Saturn-to-USB: Works
Gamecube Controller through GC-to-USB: Works
Dreamcast ASCII Fighting Pad through DC-to-USB: Did not work, d-pad shows as a POV hat.

It ought to work with 100% but maybe they will patch it. Luckily I'll be sticking with the Saturn pad, which works fine. There is a little wonkiness in that none of the pads/sticks except the 360 ones had any buttons mapped by default, they were all blank. I had to go set them up by hand, which is not that bad since they usually don't have the buttons in the right positions anyway, but it might make someone think that their controller isn't working since not even the menus work until you define the buttons and directions.

Been playing for about 2 hours now. Just as good as the vanilla version of SF4. It's gonna be hard playing this on 360 again after having the clarity of 1080p.

I wouldn't mind that. I'm pretty bad too, and would actually like to get to the point where I can go to tournaments with confidence. D:

Well I couldn't get my PS3 stick working no matter what I did so I dug out the 360 stick and it worked perfectly. Now I just need to remember how to play this game. My GFWL ID is Tanamac if anyone wants a punching bag.

Can anyone tell me what the default keyboard keys were in SFIV? I'm trying to make this play just like that, but I think I'm not sure about which keys went where.

Wait, why is it requiring me to have two keyboard bindings. What in the what?! I just want it to control like SFIV.

My PS3 TE stick doesn't work :( When I go into button config, for some reason I can properly assign the right attacks to the right buttons, but the game doesn't recognize the joystick so I can't configure up/down/left/right. Anybody else having this issue?

I can play SF4 vanilla fine.

Hey guys, does x360CE work for this? Don't tell me they made everything exclusively XInput.
Check the last page.

(Yes, it works. The vast majority of modern PC games support XInput. I don't even bother to use game-specific remapping anymore)

try switching from dp/ls to rs (top of your stick)

This is excellent. The load times are so FAST.

GREAT NEWS: My Mayflash Wii to USB converter works perfectly and I could even use my TvC stick. And I didn't even have to use X360CE!

BAD NEWS: My laptop is barely up to snuff and could only get a B grade at the lowest of settings.

chipset issues maybe? but if SF4 works it shouldnt be that

Wow, why is it impossible to remap anything? I'm using two 360 TE sticks and the game doesn't actually save the settings I set for them. What's worse, my keyboard is completely non-functional once the game loads up.. yet I can still (and have to) alt-tab to get out of the game.

Can this be confirmed? I use a 360 pad with unusual button settings and it would be quite the pain in the ass to have to redo them every single time, or god-forbid not even let me use my own mappings.

I just tested the game @ 2560x1440. It works just fine. In fact, it defaulted to it! I feel much better now about my purchase. Maybe it doesn't work well with multi monitor setups or resolutions beyond 2560x1440/2560x1600.

we got a full refund for this after explaining that our Hori sticks didn't work with this game... yet they work flawlessly in SFIV Vanilla in the same computer/OS without the need of a 3rd party software or having to map anything, just plug & play, I don't know why they took out the support for them for this version of the game when my guess is that AE is just the same engine heavily patched with new content, I don't understand Capcom/their QA staff and the need to remove support for sticks that were perfectly fine for SFIV PC Vanilla. Well, we will keep playing the PS3 version I guess.

I bought it and am very happy with it so far. Crazy to see so many characters. Haven't played street fighter in a year or so. Can't wait to get into it. Just another game to distract from my backlog. Damn!

Everytime I try to take out those god damn 3 punches and 3 kicks buttons in the button settings, the game crashes :( .

Everyone add me as well!

That sucks. Was Capcom QA on vacation?

I have a problem. I never use 3p and 3k, so when I go to the button config to remove it the game always freezes on me. It's not just once, it's probably been all 6 or 7 times that I've tried so far. Anybody have know what might be my problem?

EDIT: TakerX, I just read your post. I see I'm not the only one with this problem. Hopefully it's resolved soon.

Keyboard didn't work for me either...wonder if it's a bug or if they did this intentionally to stop people from using macros. I had no trouble using a Mad Catz fight pad though.

I'm running this game on my little HP DM1Z "netbook," and have to use low settings for everything but the character models. I got an A rating in the benchmark test after I dropped the resolution down to 800x540, lol. Seems playable at 1024 and 1280 resolutions for me, but the lowest resolution definitely ensures a constant 60FPS. Still need to mess around with the settings some more. Been using the fixed framerate option.

Besides the keyboard/button settings issues people are reporting, I also noticed that the benchmark rating resets for me every time I go online. It's annoying since people will kick you or drop out of matches if you have a lower benchmark rating.

Have you played vanilla SF4 on your netbook? And if so, how did it run?
I managed to run SF4 on my notebook on low settings with only character set to medium and I managed to run it @60fps (only dropped during super combos because of the effects) and I wonder whether AE will run the same, worse or better (doubt it).

ffs... did I miss the pre-load window? Because I can't install / download / preload the game.

Not seeing anything either.

Guess we missed it, oh well. Not like I don't have a billion other games to play but SF is, shall I say quite important to me.

You can probably just use x360ce to fix that shit too.

Well apparently the Steam version of this game isn't available for me so I'll have to wait on a GG deal it seems. I really don't understand this, since I was able to get the original SFIV on Steam.

Region locking digital content seems so stupid to me. Is there a rationale behind it?

Ran into a bug while playing Arcade Mode. Threw out a s.HK as sakura and it would have connected but T. Hawk (CPU) did Typhoon and...after it finished, it did no damage. I know this for sure because I had full health before the command grab and full health after it.

Anyways, I miss the FPS display but Fraps will have to do. I found that I'm able to turn all of the graphical settings at their highest and get 70+ FPS with the exception of AF, which I leave at default. If I max it the it just butchers my FPS. I also had to turn on v-sync, not for the purpose of prevent tearing but because it causes enough delay to match the timing of the PS3 version (which I've been practicing on for the past few weeks). Without it, nailing those 1-frame links becomes weird.

GFWL only supports 39 or so countries. Some people from unsupported countries got fucked with their Dirt 2 key. They would enter that shit and Microsoft would lock 'em out of their own game. So remember to change your address in your GFWL account before registering SSFIV.

Oh hey guys, this game installs GFWL Marketplace every time I run the bitch. It sits in my system tray as I play.

Hmm, that's the thing, I have more than a few GFWL games on Steam and never had this issue. RE5, Batman: AA, SFIV and Dirt 3 like you mentioned.

Sigh, I thought that maybe Marvel 3 could pop up on PC somewhere down the line, but at this rate it won't even be available to me if it's even released.

Hmm. If Dirt 3 works fine (it's the only SSA key on that list), then you can just get someone to gift you the game. Jump in a 4-pack and get it for $30.

So I take issue with the way they've completely changed the keyboard controls. In Street Fighter IV vanilla, the punches and kicks were all bound to ASDF and ZXCV, with movement handled on the arrow keys. This is similar in essence to a fight pad.

Right off the bat in SSFIV:AE forces you to relearn how to navigate a character select screen, mapping the 'confirm selection' command to the 'O' key, or the 'Q' key. This is because it forces 'Battle Mode' which allows for two players on one keyboard. I have yet to find a way to disable this. The game is aware that this is completely convoluted, and offers you a 'Keyboard Hint' option which I constantly have to refer to just to select a character.

I also don't like that you can't map Pause to the 'ESC' key, as is the case in just about every other PC game ever. I've remapped my controls to where the forced 'Keyboard 2' keys are all out of the way on the Number Key pad, and my in game fight controls seem as close to SFIV as they can get. However this also puts my in-game 'Confirm selection' key as 'V'. This would make sense on a controller (Light Punch being the A button which would make sense as a 'confirm selection' key), but on a keyboard it doesn't AT ALL.

So between the character select menu and the in-game pause menu, my confirm key changes from 'O' to 'V'. It's incredibly esoteric. I really shouldn't have to relearn how to navigate menus on a keyboard. The closest comparison I can make is to trying to play DMC4 with a keyboard, and that's just the menus.

I'll figure it out because I really want to play the game, but the fact that it's as busted as it is makes me really disappointed in Capcom. They're usually so good about the PC games they put out.
