Capcom to PC gamers: Buy SSF4 Arcade Edition

I've been playing a little bit this morning before coming to work. Is it just me or the input is a little bit more responsive than consoles? I played many many hours the PS3 version and I'm pulling off 1-frame links a lot easier somehow. Maybe it's just a placebo effect, I dunno...
PS3 Frame issue
This has been discussed a lot on SRK over the last few years but it appears the PS3 lags for 2 frames over the 360 and arcade version . The PC is the same as 360 and Arcade versions.

Might be what you are noticing.

Been playing a bit here and there past couple days. Game is very pretty cranked up, netcode seems fantastic. Pretty happy with the port, but a couple of questions:

Is there any way to turn the music off completely? In options I have it down as far as it can go, of course, but it's not actually off. I can still hear it a bit. I have iTunes playing my music in the background, so yeah.

Also is there any easier way to manage costume mods? I didn't own vanilla SFIV on the PC, so I'm just learning how this all works. Basically I'm wondering if I have to manually swap files in and out every time I want to try out something new.

Pretty sure AE PC isn't a port.
Aren't the arcade cabs just running a PC version of it?

Arcade runs on tatiox2/Windows XP embedded. I'd bet that it's a 360 port over an arcade port simply because console has some of the features arcade doesn't.

Been playing some matches this morning that I would swear are offline. I'm amazed at how much better the online is on PC than console.

I can't wait to find out when my new video card arrives. I've only played one online match and it was a dreadful because the video card I have(which we already talked about) is ass. Hopefully the GTX 460 will fix that. I'm also looking forward to playing all those Euro's and Brazilians(no, connection wasn't great, but what the hell) that I use to play all that time back in the day.

I'm horrible right now, but I'm having a lot of fun online. It's really quick and easy to get on and find a green match.

so basically they shipped another unfinished game... and now they need some weeks to 'fix' the support for those pads/sticks which were already perfectly functional (just plug & play) for SFIV vanilla, good times Capcom.

Alright quickly tried out the game.

- The control iffyness is annoying at first, can't navigate menus with keyboard, and changing button settings on your 360 pad changes the navigation buttons aswell. So if you're like me and have a non-default button mapping then you can forget about "A" being confirm, for me it's "LB". Minor but yet highly annoying.

THAT SAID...

- The game looks ridiculous on max settings, even after playing the SF4 series for like 1000h+ or something the pc-version still totally managed to blow my mind.

- The game isn't using both my gpus, it's barely using even one of my 560 TIs, and yet I manage to get roughly 300+ fps in the benchmark, so I bet you can play the game on a rock.

- Warning, don't even think about playing the game without triplebuffering, I tried to play the game totally clean, no triplebuff no v sync no nothing and the game played at some bizarre 20fps in training mode. I enabled d3doverrider and the game ran flawlessy.

- The game feels even more responsive than on my 360 but this could totally be placebo, but the links I'm hitting in training mode tells another story though.

- I think it's a great feature that peoples pcs rank is diplayed online. So if you see somebody with like a horrible grade maybe stay clear so he won't lagg it up.

- As soon as they fix the control bullshit it's going to be my definite version of the game. For reference I've owned and played : Vanilla ps3/pc/360, Super ps3/360 and AE pc/360.

SFIV PC was very solid online, about 1 in 10 matches would play at half frame rate due to the opponent playing at 30fps or something, but otherwise it was really good.

Great to hear. It's "officially" unlocked on Steam today in Europe so should get even more users to player against.

Either it is using both cards or your CPU is getting you a shit ton of frames.

I only (lol) get about 150fps with a Q6600 and a 5850 clocked pretty high (just say they're comparable) at 1680x1050 with x8AA

Gonna try the benchmark again when I install my 2500K next week.

Yeah if he's getting "300+ fps in the benchmark" then SLI is being used, unless he's playing at console resolution, 1138x640.

Grabbed the Steam version today, already had the PS3 version, please add me for matches tonight and over the weekend:

Steam ID: tobiasboon (aka psn_tobiasboon)
PSN ID: tobiasboon

Keyboards not working is really dumb. I only had a few minutes and was going to play around some the other day but couldn't do anything but ALT+TAB and bring up the Windows Live interface.

I'm going to try my Hori HRAP 3s this weekend. I'll try them as xinput and then if that doesn't work I'll see if I can use motioninjoy to run 360 emu on them.

PM sent.

Anyone else, feel free to add me on Steam if you want to play a few friendly matches.

Triple buffering is going to add input lag for this game...I would prefer a double buffered vsync solution.

If you have the Steam version that limitation isn't there.

Dunno about retail/other versions.

Thanks for the info. Good to hear the Steam version is being handled in the proper manner.

Weird: My GFWL account apparently changed to The Netherlands (could've sworn it was Belgium before, as it should be). So now I got a Dutch flag instead of a Belgian flag. I don't want to confuse my fellow players!

Can I change this, or is it GFWL being stupid again?

Even better, you can launch the game without running Steam.

Probably a mistake but it's pretty neat. It's practically DRM free.

use x360ce if you can't configure your stick.

I finally had some solid time playing with the PC version.

MY GOD IT LOOKS SO PRETTTTYYYYYYYYYYYY

I'll probably try to set up an event tonight for those in the group or something. GFW names would be helpful. D:

The creator of those is a guy named Recycler. In the vanilla mod website I found SD Dictator. Not sure about the rest.

Since that pic is pretty old, maybe he ripped the SSFIV 360 characters and imported them to vanilla PC (or maybe it's a 360 modded SSFIV).

Okay, what the hell. I get in-game and everything runs perfectly... Aside from the game stuttering to 0 fps every five seconds constantly!? What is going on here?

could be you have a background application monitoring your graphics card every five secs (like to check its temperature)

Check your temps. Sounds like the CPU may be throttling itself.

My temps are fine, I have no background processes that I don't usually run and all other games are working perfectly. Just finished up playing SC2 and Sanctum before that, no issues at all.

Edit: Ahahaha, what. Apparently I had Tribes 2 Launcher running in the background since a few days back, which I didn't even notice was eating up 50% of my CPU usage. *kills self*

At least it's working now, hooray!

Been playing this today and after playing the 360 version non-stop all I can say is WOW!!!!
So glad capcom brought this to PC, this will stay on my HDD forever.
The clarity and crispness of the graphics is unbelievable, my friend has just come in and he can't believe how this looks and can't see himself going back to the 360 version.

Any of the guy test this lag thing on Mortal Kombat between formats, would be interesting to find out on all games tbh.

Good thing most tournaments round these parts are 360 for the major games.

Anyone here experience sub-60 FPS on the menu? I'm running a HD6870 1GB, high on everything, 0x AA and it runs beautifully in fights (offline), but the menu is definitely not as smooth as console. A little jarring imo.

GFWL is Airan, EU region, if anyone wants to fight it out.

So, a friend of mine is having major problems playing online. I mean, major. I'm talking about 10fps with hard freezes during the matches. I've played about 50 pubs and a few with him, and even the laggiest pubs don't come close. We opened his firewall and it worked great for a couple matches, but reverted back to being completely unplayable. We did a ping test and his line doesn't have any jitter or packet loss. PC is up to snuff, AMD 6 core and HD6870.

Just to test he tried vanilla SF4 and it played fine online with the firewall up.

Any ideas? We've installed the latest drivers for everything, GFWL, AMD, DirectX - nothing seems to help.

so is anyone else getting massive input delay when they turn vsync on? This wasn't an issue for me with vanilla on PC. I have to turn vsync off and everytime I fight a viper I feel like my eye's are being sliced in half.

I tested the game this morning and was benchmarking 170fps 1080p maxed.

570s SLI

Yeah, v-sync is causing pretty bad input delay. I didn't notice it offline, but it gets multiplied online and really fucks you up.

Try disabling v-sync in game and enable it through your drivers or D3D Overrider.

How difficult is it to swap the vanilla SF4 character select theme in to this version?

I tried doing this myself and was only able to get music to start when the stage select screen came up. The character select screen was silent. I guess SSF4 select screen uses two different tracks and I'm not sure how to overcome that problem.

Put the vanilla track twice under 2 different file names.

Would that work?

The versus mode and arcade mode character select themes are slightly different, maybe you have to replace both.

I thought of that, but I would imagine if you replaced both, then the vanilla select screen would start over when the stage select came up.

Edit: Oh I forgot to mention that the character select theme worked for training mode, but training mode's select theme is probably the same file as the stage select theme.

Sorry for the double post, but I just got it working. I swear I did this already and the music only started playing at the stage select, but I must have had to restart the game in order to get it to work correctly.

Replace BGM_SELECT.csb from super street fighter iv - arcade edition\resource\ui\sound\bgm with BGM_SELVS1.csb from Street fighter iv\Game\Sound. Be sure to make backups of the original file.

Edit: Augh, it only plays if I do CPU vs CPU. I'm beyond confused.
