Capcom to PC gamers: Buy SSF4 Arcade Edition

Mmm, kind of thinking it's too late and the damage has been done. Kudos to them for listening, but it's been said, it shouldn't ever have been an issue in the first place. My eyes are on what Capcom do next.

Great thread name change, I'm glad Capcom recovered the common sense.

It´s not perfect, but it´s certainly better.

Cool. I'll buy this once the patch is released, although I still don't like the remaining restrictions.

Niiice. It's a good start but let's hope they get rid of the other offline restrictions or consider the "sunset" option if it's completely hacked.

Valve should take cues from Microsoft and reach out to developers more in order to make sure games are released on their platforms with Steam features, and not ridiculous DRM or redundant and inferior services like GFWL.

Well, it's a start.

The only thing I'd change/add in is:

-Offline saving for progress
-Trial mode able to be used offline for training/killing time on flights.

The only thing that online mode DRM should be used for:
-Online mode.

I mean if you're going to play "online" online DRM wouldn't hinder you there.

So, this "patch" also applies to Steam too, right? And I don't want to make an XBox Live account just to play online. I hate achievments.

No dice. It's still a GFWL game, but the process is pretty painless.

So the patch doesn't apply to to Steam? Bummer...

And why the Live account? I though Steam was its own account.

Because GFWL games require GFWL accounts no matter where they're sold.

nice to see them change on this. they better send out the press releases and try and wipe away some of the bad publicity.
I have seen the news on most of the top gaming sites so that's a start.

This is good and I'll probably buy it now (since I have an option for ssf4 that doesn't require a $50 subscription a year now), but I really hate how they refuse to do cross-platform play. I mean, they even made a game using that yet they refuse to use it again.

And GFWL needs to always be online or no?
No, it doesn't. This was the heart of the issue. SSFIV:AE would have required you to be online to use all the characters, and save your settings/progress, but the character restriction has been lifted, possible some of the others as well.

The steam version will also have the offline restrictions removed. It's the same game whether you bought it through Steam or somewhere else.

The steam version also uses GFWL, so you need to have a GFWL account. (Which is free on PC though)

Hmm, characters back in is good. Doesn't say anything explicit about still disabling challenges or the ability to save, though. It does say that being online will be required for things that logically require being online, so maybe that implies that everything else is back in. But with the level of bullshit that they were considering before, I'm just going to stick with "cautiously optimistic" until I hear anything concrete.

Heh. Now if only comfy couch accusations would be dealt with similarly, we might actually be able to discuss PC games on this forum.
Could you explain me the famous 'comfy couch' thing?

People say that they play consoles over PC because they prefer sitting on their 'comfy couch' rather than their office chair -- even though they can quite easily plug their PC into their TV and play it from their 'comfy couch'.

It doesnt sounds ban worthy.
Thanks for the info bud.

That's all fine and dandy, but it shouldn't have been an issue in the first place. And it wouldn't have been, provided they didn't try to pull some bullshit.

I'm sick of these situations where an entity creates support for itself by offering up a solution to a problem it created in the first place.

It also doesn't help that the first two paragraphs of that blog entry are basically scolding customers for being concerned and calling out Capcom. Nice backhanded apology, Svensson.

I agree with a lot of what you have said here. The scolding attitude was a bit much on Sven part.

I am just going to evaluate the final product, buy or don't buy, and try to wash away all the bs that has surrounded this game in DRM terms. Whatever DRM ships with the final product is how I will decide, and right now it sounds like they are still using the same overly heavy handed DRM, but just with a much smaller window in terms of how long they keep the restrictions on the product.

Sven "Dear customer we are only going to tie one hand behind your back for a week or so instead of forever! Do you love us yet?". I am not sure what to think.

I just like how this guy got banned for suggesting PC piracy is rampant:

And yet, some people don't want to lug a tower to to their TV and hook in a HDMI cable (if they have that as a card) to their tower, along with short cables and/or buy a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Derp.

Anyway, did mods merge threads? Two threads about this is confusing. :/

SFIV unfortunately was plagued by pirates and hackers that messed up leaderboards. To hopefully remedy that, SSFIV:AE will be making use of what is called SSA technology (similar to what we used in Dead Rising 2).
How did that Dead Rising 2 thing come along protecting the leaderboards? Effective?

Step in the right direction, indeed.

Now take another step and announce the patch that enables offline saving. ;P

As others have already said, this is a good start, even though it's only a start, IMO.

Now we might see the PC version used at Evo 2011 and other tournies. The reason simply being that it's bound to be superior to the console versions on a moderately powerful rig, and people can use the.fan-made character mods if they wish. Not the naked ones or Preggers Sakura, natch.

It also ensures that I might consider double-dipping on the PS3 and PC/Steam versions.

I think I am just going to wait for the patch release and then buy it at that point.

Do GFWL on PC have to go through the same or similar patch submittion process as 360 patches?

I wish Skullgirls would release on PC instead of console only... that would scratch my PC fighting game itch.

I doubt it for EVO anytime soon, they seem to try to stick with PS3 as much as possible.

It would be cool if they used the PC version, but supposedly they have already bought numerous PS3's for the tournament. Also you can use the PS3 for other games like MK9, HDR, etc.

But I completely admit I don't know WTF I am talking about. I have never been to Evo or even watched a live stream of the event. So I can be 150% wrong on this.

Diago kicking ass with a "Preggers Sakura" would be f-ing funny though.
