Capcom wants to break records with Monster Hunter 4

Roll back the clock to before mh4 was announced for 3ds, and announce it for Vita as a next gen mh. If that had happened, then yes I think that scenario outsells the current mh4, which somehow looks worse than the PSP games. If MH4 was for Vita from day 1, I really wonder how the 3ds would be doing today. I know it goes against Sonys Dev philosophy, but I think they should have money-hatted that one. In the case of portables, one or two games can act as umbrellas for the whole platform.

In any event, as a MH fan, I just want to see the franchise taken to the next level. I think they could do it on literally any platform except 3ds. Its not install base. If install base was the only thing that mattered, then every game would be on 3ds.

Give me a fucking break, sony used to be the king of moneyhats, and the rest of your "analysis" is just a projection of your own desires not a reflection of the actual market.

MH3U on 3DS was excellent to those bitching.

It was fine considering it was built for the 3DS. Ran very well and didn't scrimp on anything.

I'd say it looks nicer than the old Wii game.

Yup. The series never took off until it moved to PSP and became a phenomenon. Capcom went back to console with Tri and got a good result, but MH ultimately belongs on portables.

* In Japan.

Monster Hunter isn't a Japan-only franchise anymore. If they want to break records, they're going to have to realize that the largest gaming markets are not high population density mass transit based urban countries. Which I believe they've figured out by now.

I'd say it looks nicer than the old Wii game.

Not even the upscaled Wii U version looked nicer than the old Wii game. And even if it did, I don't want to buy "fine considering" for $30-$40. If it's a suboptimal way of consuming the content, I'm just not going to consume the content.

It was never a Japan-only franchise. When they refer to breaking records, it's obvious they mean beat the highest selling MH game which is MHP3rd.

As for MH3U not looking nicer than MHTri, I assume you just like your games smeared with Vaseline and run at 360p with frame rate drops being common.

What are you on about? It's not even an argument that Ultimate's the best way to enjoy the 3rd gen, you silly-billy.

Hey you don't know that! MH4 for the iPhone would have been much better than the 3ds!

Seriously though guys if anyone arguing for the series "quality" hasn't actually played the series then you need to go reflect on why that's important to you....

A graphically impressive Monster hunter would be nice but it's not what most monster hunter players look for

If it was we wouldn't be playing it at all

You know, it would have made me really happy if graphically they had only improved just the freaking text going from Tri to Tri Ultimate. I would have sacrificed self-shadowing for text that I could read and a usable map.

I ain't going to lie... The text font sucks

Probably because it's not an upscaled Wii game, it's an upscaled 3DS game. A lot of people seem to have that mixup.

Does graphical quality alone equate to "suboptimal way of consuming the content"? Because 3U is probably one of the most polished and beefy games in the series, and even then it looks fine.

So, I was browsing the MH4 site and noticed it reveals the size of the download version at the bottom of the page: 1740MB. 3G is supposedly 1.75GB

Oh, please. If MH4 was coming out for Vita instead of 3DS we'd have the same situation we have now, with 3DS on top and Vita not so dead. MH has a ton of pull but not enough to overcome Pokemon, Dragon Quest, and Mario. Let's be for real. And I don't know why I've having this conversation with you anyway, 'what if' scenarios are just that.

Look at all the gameplay enhancements they've unveiled - the climbing mechanics, the new weapons, the aerial combat, clinging onto monsters, etc. They are certainly taking this to the next level. But, yeah, only graphics can do that for you.

Your loss. While you continue to bitch and moan over what could've been, millions will be playing and loving this game on their 3DS. If you were a true fan of the series it wouldn't matter what system it's on. So get with it. Or tough shit.

Considering how AC:NL fared so far, it's safe to say that if MH wasn't on 3DS, 3DS would be in a similar situation (seriously look up how that went last gen too).
Vita would be in a way less shit place however.
Games that are not MH but play like MH would sell like shit though (I should really say try to, because if they're all like Godawful Eater I'd pity the Vita...)

Pretty much this too.
If you look at what MH4 offers, MHDos looks like a DLC and Tri like a samey sequel.
And seriously battle under the sea wasn't a genius idea...

Sometimes I wish they would announce a Vita port only so this port begging would stop and we could discuss the game without all this whining.

Game looks great, and will probably look amazing on the 3DS if MH3U is anything to go by. You can climb monsters now. MoHun has a ridiculous amount of content. Why are we talking about the Vita? Let it go. Buy the platforms that have the games you want to play, not the one you wish the games you want to play would be in.

Some of these look ridiculously strong...
Like the one you fight on a boat....it looks like an endboss trying to destroy the world in your everyday rpg...

Jhen Morahn? Yeah... given how much punishment he can take, I'd say that comparison is about right. But that's just the thing in MH. For other games, this would be considered the ultimate showdown extraordinaire, in MH it's merely Tuesday.

Oh my if I ever reach him that's gonna be something.
I get why when you play MH you don't bother with the rest.
I started on MHFU, and my first battle with the Giadrome (bigger white raptor) was like the last boss of your usual action game O.o
For MHFU it was not even the first boss.

Yeah. I remember my first time facing a Great Jaggi... thing was wiping the floor with my Great Sword swinging ass.

And the first time fighting Devil Jho or Lagiacrus... the game is just outright amazing, and honestly in terms of Gameplay, depth and systems unsurpassed. That's why I simply don't understand the claims for a true next gen version, when the core of what MH is, is already being massively overhauled with MH4.

But it is so exhausting reading through all the blatant port begging, the whining and claims about MH4 not being a worthy sequel because of peoples buyers remorse.

Thing is, if the game would come out soon in Europe, I'd simply stay away from MH4 topics, and enjoy the game when it comes out, but given how long we're probably have to wait for a localization I just keep coming back again and again. Hopefully once the game is out, discussion will finally shift to the actual game instead of what it means for peoples platform of choice.

I start on MHFU so I totally see what you mean I couldn't do shit with a greatsword.
I followed the tutorials and ended up with sword+shield like a scrub -_-.
When Tri came out I didn't do the same mistake and tried to drop the GS already and really push it in.
It's a better handheld experience I feel so I didn't get far (that and I didn't understand how traps worked, massive disadvantage here).
Now I get it and my longsword can capture Great Jaggis and Qurupeco like nothing!

I never truly understood MH without playing it so I guess I'll get to understand the overhaul in time. But just climbing and jumping change everything in how it would play. It's not a game that can be played like Skyrim or the usual rpg.
If you try to play it that way, the game WILL break you. I guess that's why people want a next gen version or something : they don't understand shit of what IS MH.
The window dressing is nice and all but the meat is unlike anything else.
If anything a change into open world would drasticly change the way it is played for little gains.

But it is so exhausting reading through all the blatant port begging, the whining and claims about MH4 not being a worthy sequel because of peoples buyers remorse.
Imagine if they'd call that one MHP4 then...
And we danced that dance before when MHTri went to Wii or with DQIX...
Funny thing no one pushed that kind of shit when FF7 or DQVII came though

It's usually better to do that.
The MH3U topics weren't so stupid though, it's too bad we can have that in MH4 threads...
I hope they'll push a demo for MH4!
That's a good thing to drown side discussions
