Needs to be Marvel vs. Capcom style, leave Smash as it is.

Only problem is that there's going to be a limit to Nintendo characters. There wouldn't be any room for obscure characters like on Capcom's side. Looking at Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for example, there's 13 characters on each side, and for Nintendo that could be just a bunch of Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, and misc. iconic characters at most.

The first Smash Bros. had exactly 12 characters, so they could just roll out with just those guys plus few other newer Smash editions like Pit, Bowser or Olimar. I suppose none of them are really obscure, but that's usually not what you look for in a cross-over game.

I wouldn't worry too much about Sakurai directing though, I'd imagine Ono & others of Capcom will have enough say to keep him in check.

Nintendo vs Capcom, by the Smash Team, with all the crazy characters, playing like Smash

Capcom vs Nintendo, by Capcom's fighter team, focusing on the less crazy Nintendo characters (including people like Link, Samus, etc, but including a few crazy since hey, Joe and Arthur right?), playing like Marvel Vs

Wouldn't the Nintendo developed one put the Capcom one to shame though? One would be feature rich with content you probably didn't know you wanted, while the other would charge you for costumes and the like, despite those being part of the advertising campaign 3 months prior to the game's release. This doesn't seem far-fetched at all. It's not like Nintendo hasn't been friendly to the idea of handing out their franchises to developers since, what, F-Zero GX?


The more I think about this, the less I want this to be a Vs. game. I'd rather see Capcom just take Nintendo characters and make their own fighting game.

However, if Capcom is fond of Melee's engine, I might reconsider that...
