Captchas are changing...

Wtf? I just came across this on another forum as I tried to recover my password through the "e-mail me my password" feature...

:lol :lol :lol I can't believe this is real.

You've got to hand it to the advertising people, this is pretty genius.

There's something funny about putting advertisements in a device meant to stop spam robots from posting advertisements.

At least you can fucking read what it says. Most of the time, I can read captchas, but sometimes it just looks like a 5 year old threw his alphabet soup up onto my computer screen.

Most of them look like logos for a black metal band.

re-captcha was actually a very interesting concept.

It had a regular captcha and another word. The 2nd image is actually bits of words from scanning projects that computers couln't interpret so they relied on the human eye to interpret it.

It was such a neat way to harness brainpower of internet users to do an archival project.

I wouldn't doubt the BS image in the OP is a way for marketers to feed some text somewhere and it's not advertising to YOU, but to someone else as well.

Seems easier for me to type that sentence than trying to figure out jumbled words, especially for someone who hates word puzzles.

It's actually a good idea, but the "oh nose they're advertising to us secretly" crowd will rage about it.*

*This bitterness brought to you by someone forced to watch the "Coolhunters" PBS documentary way too many times.

Why are you wording this in the past tense?

Yeah most captchas are completely unreadable so even though this is an advertisement it's a step up. I actually think this is pretty clever ad.

I'd rather type a companys slogan or whatever than having to deal with those bullshit captchas that you have to refresh 20 times just to get a set of numbers you can actually read.

Isn't the problem this appears to be very poor at defeating a spammer? And if it can't defeat spammers why the hell do users need to type anything, other than as a new and exciting way for whoever owns the domain to force users to drop another nickel in the can?

Because if there are a small finite number of phrases associated with a small finite number of advertisers it would be trivial for spammers to attempt all solutions.

Well bitch, you want a favor to get your password because you forgot to put it in a place you could find it? Now you gotta see this ad first motherfucker muhahahaha

Yep. As it is, people are running captias through machine learning algorithms to solve them now so this seems like a poor idea.

I remember this website. Can't remember the name but basically you were given a penny and you played against others. Every time you won your winnings doubled and so on.

Anyways, there wasn't a captcha but before every game you were shown an ad and after the ad it asked you a question that involved the ad. If you didn't guess correctly (out of 3 choices) you were given the same shit but with another ad. Now THAT was annoying since you had to memorize the fucking ad.

Damn, that's interesting (I've dabbled in machine learning a little bit).

This is really clever. And anything's better than those cats.

As much as I kind of get weirded out by making the whole thing an ad, pretty much this. I'll take ads if it brings me readability.

I know it's already been said many many times, but anything is better than those fucking cats. RS pretty much jumped the shark with that one.

Just wait until they make you watch a video before it gives you the quote to write! :D Maybe I should keep that a secret <_<

That seems a lot easier to bypass than regular captcha image so I don't see it getting popular.

Yeah, I just found out my company uses re-captcha. Makes me feel a little bit better about them. :lol
