Cartoon Network's schedule for this week...

Have some of you guys never heard of a marathon before? This isn't that weird, like I feel like every week three different channels have concurrent Law and Order marathons lol. Especially since it's still summer and kids will actually sit down and watch several hours of this at a time.

Or hopefully going outside and not watching TV.

Even without the marathon goin on, every time I flip through channels and see CN it's always teen Titans go lol

Nothing against the show. I watch with my little brother time to time, it's funny.

But seriously wtf happened to CN

Days when I used to come home from school you would get all these different blocks of programming ranging from the comedy block to the more action orianted block like toonami, or hell the invetween like miguzi (?) Or what that was called. It had plenty of variety every couple hour or so.

Anybody else remember when Cartoon Network didn't even have the programming to fill an entire day and would just sort of loop back on itself at the end of its schedule?
This was, like, early to mid-90s.

I traveled internationally a lot as a kid and I always looked for CN International in hotel rooms or bed and breakfasts or wherever we stayed and they used to change the spoken language of the shows every time the schedule looped on itself. They'd show commercials for the upcoming shows and they'd have these little color coded bubbles at the end telling you when the show would be on in which language.

(ENG) (ITA) (FRE) (GER) and so on.
Sometimes I'd have to be up at, like, 4 AM to catch 2 Stupid Dogs in English.
(Random French woman we were staying with: "Is true. Dog are stupid.")

Anyway, my point is even then the schedule wasn't as claustrophobic as this.

There must be some event happening right? At the end of each day there's a TTG multi-part Finale thing isn't there? So it must be for that. As long as it's just for this week for the Finale, what's the big deal?

Or is GAF just knee-jerk reacting again?

I always shit on TTG, but honestly, if the OG series never existed, I know my ass would be watching it all the time as a kid. It can be pretty funny at times from the occasional episodes I've seen, especially when it's self-aware.

lol then why do you still shit on it? It's a good show.

I don't get the salt from this not being a reboot of the original. That one ended. It's done. This is it's own separate thing. If anything, a reboot is more likely due to the renewed interest TTG created.

Well I said "shit on it", but more like I nowadays rib on it whenever my friends and I see it on, reminiscing about the OG series and wishing it was back. I literally tell them the same thing, so yea :P

Damn people are still Salty about Teen Titans Go. I only watch this show when I babysit It's ok but I guess the rating are good if CN keeps airing it so much at least judging from some of the comments here.

They're doing some kind of Teen Titans Go event around their "Night Begins to Shine" special.

It's a whole thing.

I assume they just decided to show Teen Titans Go instead of whatever other reruns they were going to show this week.

Thats gotta be a April Fools joke.....oh wait...

lol havent seen CN in years but looking at the list of what is not being shown, doesnt seem like I'm missing much but...I'll maybe check out some of those shows....

Havent seen or heard of Teen Titans GO...hopefully its as good as the original show....

Teen Titans has been a popular title for DC for like 20 years I don't know what go added to that, especially, considering they're fairly loose takes on the characters at best

And I thought the original teen Titans series was real bad so this isn't butt hurt salt about go or whatever shit people use to defend it

This has been a topic of discussion in the Steven Universe subreddit for a while. CN has other shows - good ones - but they regularly devote 70% of their schedule to this one. This week is an anomaly in that it literally sets a record for the most plays of one show in a week, but it's not all that out of the ordinary compared to their usual schedule.

... moot point for me personally as I just buy the shows I want on Google.

They had adventure time, Steven universe, gumball , clarance airing new episodes on thursdays ages ago
What happened

I like teen titans go but that's just toooooooo much

That sdcc bag was hilarious though, the original teen titans fighting teen Titans go

Wait ppl look at this schedule and thinks its a normal thing? That just screams special events me. If even watch CN for like 10 minutes you would see the ads for it too. Nick is worst with marathons even when there is no event!

This is just as bad as the live action era if not worse

As bad as the Stuart Snyder/CN Real era got, they at least realized their mistakes and started to correct-course at the end of his tenure. CN Real and related live-action shows were trashed, a lot of CN's popular 2010 shows (Adventure Time, Regular Show, Stven Universe) were greenlit under his run, we even saw CN bring back Cartoon Planet (albeit for a short period of time) as part of their year-long 20th anniversary even for the network. (And while it was under [adult swim] management, we got Toonami back too.)

....good lord, when you're making the Snyder era of CN look better in comparison than what you've got now....

Don't do this CN. Nickelodeon made the mistake with endless Spongebob and their ratings suffered for it.

This. When Nick decided to flood their schedule with nine hours of SpongeBob reruns daily (among other things), their ratings turned into shit and remained that way for the first half of the 2010s. Ratings only started to improve when they finally cut that crap out and gave other shows some breathing room on the schedule.

But CN's been drowning in TTG reruns for a while now (it's not something they are doing just for a special event). I guess the network will have to learn the hard way then. There's a limit into how hard you can cram a show down everyone's throats until they start leaving your channel in droves.

Cartoon Network has been dead to me ever since they got rid of all the classic animation programming like Toon Heads and The Popeye Show.

At least they're giving OK K.O.! a chance. That show is great.
Not the issue here. While yes, I am aware this is just a marathon leading up to an event episode, that still doesn't excuses that this is not far from what their schedule looks like. TTG plays more on CN than Spongebob plays on Nick. Just because a show s good doesn't mean it needs to be played 75% of the time.

Honestly though, I'm not going to say CN is failing or anything sense this shit unfortunately seems to be working, but come on, a little variety wouldn't hurt.
Yeah it's pretty bad. Even when they're not marathoning TTG, it's pretty much all TTG or Gumball. Here's their schedule for last week, for reference:

It's a shame too. CN has so much good stuff to air, but they either refuse to air older stuff for whatever reason and leave newer stuff to die. If you ain't TTG or Gumball you can get fucked. I like Gumball too (not TTG, that show can go fuck itself), but boy is it overplayed.

See above. This is hardly a one time thing.

Yeah. This is the way they treat most of their shows. At the very least, they didn't send out SU to die, like they have some of their other stuff recently (especially Justice League Action).

Introducing the Titans to a new generation of kids. There's thousands of kids right now who only know the TT through GO! (and maybe the random occasion where they replay "Trouble in Tokyo).

All this for a special starring Cee-Lo Green.

At SDCC, half of DC's booth was artwork of the original cartoon team absolutely beating the shit out of the Go team.

So they acknowledge that older fans hate it and throw them a bone once and a while with self-aware jokes, deep cut DC references, and stuff like the SDCC art. But they continue marketing and airing the show as is because kids eat it up and it makes a bunch of money.

Oh my God. Teen Titans Go has become the John Cena/Roman Reigns of Cartoon Network.

In regards to Disney XD, it has an insanely stacked and varied line-up right now. Star vs., Star Wars Rebels, Pokemon, the new Spider-Man cartoon (even if it's bad), the new video game-oriented content they've added, and the Ducktales reboot starting this month. Then you factor in the occasional Gravity Falls and Phineas and Ferb reruns.

I mean... this is obviously a marathon?

I was on a trip last year and they had Gumball playing all day for the whole week.

Though I agree there's too much TTG in general.

You'd think kids would be burned the fuck out of it by now, but I guess not. I know it's a typical thing for older people to say, but kinds have it pretty bad these days in regards to shows to watch. Good or bad, it felt like when I was a kid each channel had a decent roster of shows, they didn't show they same goddamn thing ad infinitum.

first of all, you don't remember all the crap

second, there is tons of good content on tv not to mention this thing called the internet now where kids can watch nearly every show ever made

There's times I wonder if I'm missing anything by not having a Fios set-top box in my room.

Then I see reminders of current CN scheduling like this, and I'm glad I joined the Netflix/Prime/etc. streaming crowd, finally.
