Are... are you part of the mafia or something?

LOL, quite the opposite! I work in security.

I got many surgeries done at cold (I'm sensitive to anesthetics), sure it's suffering a bit but I think you're vastly overreacting, I'm not offended at all by what I'm reading.

I'm assuming your fingers weren't removed at the first knuckles though...
Anyway, enjoy your bengal I guess, although you don't sound overly sympathetic to the life of a cat and just wanted something that 'looks neat' without giving a lot of fucks about the quality of life of the cat. A shame in my opinion.

Cat's aren't the highest maintenance animals, but they need some basic care, food/shots etc and since you purchased a pedigree cat, take a bit of pride in it, feed it some food so it will keep it's nice glossy coat, pay attention to the de-worming schedule, don't let it outside etc etc.

what does this even mean? That you had a bad surgery so the cat should too?

you've done a bad thing and you should be under no illusions about it.

Go off! I am in total agreement with catfish on this. Declawing a cat is incredibly cruel and stupid. If you can't deal with an aspect of an animals innate behavior (scratching things with cats, barking with dogs etc.), you're not cut out to own a pet. Period.

Beautiful cat, OP. Not a fan of declawing animals but I won't attack you over that.

I can't believe people still declaw cats or that the service is even offered.

My cats don't claw furniture because I took the time to train them.

Anyhow, bengals certainly are beautiful.

My cat doesn't purposefully claw at the furniture but when she runs around, sometimes she has her claws out so there are little marks all over them.

She's less than a year old so I hope she simmers down as she gets older.

Anyway, here's some pictures of her. I made a thread about her last summer when I took her in.

You could always trim her claws with some special scissors (you could probably use whatever scissor, but I don't know).
It's kinda an easy task
as long as your cat doesn't refuse to cooperate :D
, you just have to be careful of not cutting away the nerve endings (or whatever those are). Basically DON'T cut where the claw is pinkier, but just where is white.

Trimming claws won't solve furniture destroying at all, but at least the cat won't accidentally have its claws out all the time.
The only downside we noticed is that with shorter claws she has much more grip on the floor, so it's less usual to see her cartoonishly whirling her paws while running. :D

Also, I said it's easy, but I actually don't have the guts to do it because I'm too scared that something could go wrong. So thank god my girlfriend has nuts way bigger than mine! :D

I find the way you treat your cat to make him learn to be a lot worse than getting mine declawed, but I'll just agree to disagree on that.

And yes I eat meat and wear leather based clothrs too...

Declawing isn't a crime against humanity, or the cat. That's assuming the cat is intended to be an indoor cat only. All of the natural instincts and behavior are still there, but in a protected environment they're not really necessary.

A lot of people treat small dogs and cats like they're a stuffed toy. They're coddled and loved like a precious jewel. Not a bad life if you can get it.

Enjoy your new friend. Cats are wonderful.

especially considering how many are put to sleep daily in pounds. being declawed and cared for is far better than dead

It's been nearly two months since I got my bengal. I finally decided to buy a robot litter since he uses the litter box more than 10 times a day. I'm happy that Mihos really loves me.

So say hello "again" to my new kitten. His name is Bastis.

He's Mihos younger brother. I have long hours at work and I had the opportunity to buy him.

He's still too young to bring home, but I should have him by X-Mas.

wow, that is beautiful cat OP!!!

as an allergic guy, i opted for a fluffy Siberian Forrest Cat which produces way way less FEL D1 protein.

I love my cat, I can enjoy all the joys that cat owners experience without the allergies

I'm allergic to cats too. This is why I bought the same breed, since I didn't want any bad surprise. Pet allergies suck.

You gotta get it when it's a kitten so that it knows who daddy is!

Don't declaw him this time.

They're really intense though. People think that they're like petting cats. One of my friends took care of Mihos while I was away, he's a long time cat owner. He won't ever take care of him.
Oh they aren't lap cats I know. And they have loads of energy. I have a half tailed white Manx and she is like a chubby marshmallow. I couldn't live with a bengal in my one bedroom apartment.

Ugh, it's super upsetting to see that you don't really care about your pets if you think declawing is acceptable in any way, shape or form.

Cats can get horrifying behavioural issues due to being declawed, their ability to climb safely is diminished, their ability to communicate with other animals is diminished. They can turn to biting as a first resort to dealing with problems because their claws are no longer around. They can get severe pain in their feet even years after the operation and either need additional surgery to attempt to fix it, or specialized care to at the very least help with it.

At least spaying/neutering offers real health benefits to the animal, declawing does nothing but hurt them. It's not just a cosmetic thing that helps save your furniture.

I will not continue this conversation with you. You have a bad attitude.

Wow, besides scratching furniture and running your life, apparently cats can bump old threads now.

I kid, congrats on the new kitten. Will you train it to be indoor/outdoor or only indoor?

What a beauty!

I would just echo what others have said, spend the early days around him, but not in his face. He will still be getting used to his new surroundings, and will probably want to hide, albeit in the same room as you.

We got a kitten (Lola) 5 months ago, that first week she was really unsure of everything, but gradually got used to us/the flat, now its like she owns the place, and tends to wake us up in the morning with a kitten cuddle.

Indoor, outdoor on a leash. I live in the city for now, it would be too dangerous to be outdoor animals.

With Mihos, it took 5 minutes after bringing him home and he was sitting on my lap watching tv with me. I was really surprised how fast he adapted.

I don't think the post was particularly offensive beside the opening line. There are many reasons why it is considered inhumane to declaw cats (in the most general of summaries, it is akin to removing fingers and toes at the joint in order to prevent nails from growing) and I don't think you should be so dismissive of the argument just because you disagree with the tone in which it was made.

If you read the entire thread, the issue was already addressed and I dismissed it. Why do you think I would be inclined to do it another way this time?
